I am holding your sister before the Lord with you, asking for His mercy and healing power over her body right now in that ICU.
When I think of prayers for the sick, I remember the words of the elder John, who wrote to a beloved friend and said, “I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prospers.” That was a heartfelt wish, not a blanket guarantee, but it does reveal something true: our God cares deeply about our physical condition, and it is right and good to plead for healing. Jesus Himself spent much of His earthly ministry healing every kind of sickness and disease. He bore our infirmities and carried our sorrows, and Matthew tells us this fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy that He took our illnesses Himself. So we can come with boldness, knowing that healing is part of His redemptive work.
At the same time, Scripture shows us that healing doesn’t always look the same. Sometimes Jesus spoke a word and someone was restored that very hour. Other times He laid hands on them, or even used a gradual process, like the blind man who first saw men as trees walking. The divine processes God built into our bodies, the wisdom He has given to doctors and nurses, these are not separate from His healing hand; they are instruments in His care. I don’t understand why some are healed instantly and others walk a longer road, and some don’t experience physical restoration in this life. Paul pleaded three times for his thorn to be removed, and God’s answer was not removal but sufficient grace. I’m not saying that is your sister’s situation; I’m simply acknowledging the mystery, so that if the healing comes gradually or in a way we didn’t expect, your faith won’t be shaken. God is still at work.
Right now, I pray that the Great Physician makes His presence known in that hospital room. I ask Him to guide every decision, to bring strength where there is weakness, and to push back the power of this illness. I ask for a divine intervention, whether that comes in a moment, through the steady rhythm of recovery, or even through a peace that passes understanding in your whole family. And while we wait, I pray that your own soul prospers in this trial, that you know the love and comfort of Jesus more deeply than ever before. He is near to the brokenhearted.
Keep crying out to Him. The Holy Spirit intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words, and He gives gifts as He wills. We covet the gift of healing for your sister, and we trust that no matter what, the love of Christ will hold you all. If there are updates, know I am here to continue praying with you.
