We hear your heart and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord, because we know He hears the honest cry of His children who want to be close to Him again. You have been candid that your relationship with God has felt lukewarm for a year and that you long to fully surrender, and we thank God for that holy dissatisfaction, for it shows His Spirit is still drawing you.
We must speak truthfully with you about lukewarmness, because Scripture warns us of its seriousness. The Lord says in Rev 3:15-16, I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of my mouth. This is not to condemn you but to lovingly rebuke and awaken us, for the Lord also says in Rev 3:19, As many as I love, I reprove and chasten. Be zealous therefore, and repent. God does not want partial surrender or a divided heart, He desires that we love Him with all that we are, as Jesus said in Matt 22:37, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. To fully surrender means to present our whole lives to Him, as we are urged in Rom 12:1, Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service. That is dying to self, turning from sin, and choosing daily obedience even when our feelings are cold.
We also noticed you spoke of your relationship with God but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we can come to the Father at all and find that intimate relationship restored. Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And we are told in Acts 4:12, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, for it is through His blood that we have forgiveness and access to God. Even as believers we must continually come through Jesus, not through our own effort.
We want to encourage you that God promises to meet you when you seek Him wholeheartedly. We are told in James 4:8, Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you double-minded. And in Jer 29:13, You will seek me, and find me, when you search for me with all your heart. Full surrender is not a single moment but a daily choosing to seek Him through prayer, through feeding on His Word, through turning away from what dulls your heart, and through fellowship with other believers who will keep you accountable. Ask the Lord to show you what you have been holding back, whether it is sin, distraction, disappointment, or fear, and confess it openly to Him.
We pray together for you now.
Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, and we lift up this dear one who is weary of lukewarmness and longs to be fully Yours. Forgive us for the times we have all held back part of our hearts from You. We ask You to create in this one a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within. Pour out Your Holy Spirit to stir a hunger for Your Word and for prayer, and help them to present their body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You. Break the power of apathy and distraction, and draw them near as they draw near to You. Teach them to love You with all their heart, soul, and mind, and to find joy in obedience. We pray they would know with assurance the salvation that is only in Jesus, and that through Him they would walk in close, abiding fellowship with You all the days of their life. Restore the joy of Your salvation and uphold them with a willing spirit. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
