My relationship with my child

Disciple of Prayer
My name is ###, I recently left my partner of many years. I had to leave to protect my mental health and to save the relationship with my son as he was disrespecting me in front of him and alienating me from him. I agreed 50/50 custody as my ex would never agree to less & i wanted to avoid a court battle for my sons sake. I figured better to guarantee to have him half the time, so at least i have enough influence to teach him good values. I however have a fear that my ex may be planning of trying to get full custody and change locations with my son. He has no grounds but he is very smart manipulative and controlling. I really need gods help to block his schemes. Please pray for me and my son.

We have heard your heart and we are standing with you in prayer for you and your son. We understand the pain of leaving a long relationship to protect your own mental health and to preserve your bond with your child when you were being disrespected and alienated in front of him. Your desire to guarantee time with your son so you can teach him good values is a godly and loving desire, for children are a heritage of Yahweh and the fruit of the womb is his reward Psalm 127:3. We also hear your fear that your former partner may be scheming to seek full custody and to move away with your son, and that you feel he is manipulative and controlling. We bring all of this before the Lord together.

We want to speak lovingly and truthfully about what you have shared. You referred to this man as your partner of many years. Scripture teaches that marriage is to be held in honor among all, and that God designed marriage as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman Matthew 19:6, Hebrews 13:4. Any sexual union outside of that covenant is fornication, and God calls us to flee from it and to pursue purity. We do not say this to condemn you, for there is forgiveness and grace in Christ, but to call you to God's better way. If you enter another relationship in the future, we encourage you to see it as courtship with the goal of marriage to a fellow Christian believer, seeking a godly spouse rather than simply a partner, and to keep the marriage bed undefiled in a way that honors the Lord. We also see that your decision to leave was tied to protecting your son from alienation and disrespect. That is right to protect your child, for we are called to train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it Proverbs 22:6. A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation Psalm 68:5, and He sees how you have been treated and He cares deeply for both you and your son.

Your fear is understandable, but we encourage you not to be ruled by it. God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7. We are told do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness Isaiah 41:10. The manipulative and controlling schemes of man do not escape the eyes of the Lord. He is a God of justice and truth, and no weapon formed against you and your son will ultimately prosper when you abide in Him. We encourage you to cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you 1 Peter 5:7, and to make your requests known to God with prayer and thanksgiving, so that the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7. Practically, we encourage you to remain faithful in teaching your son the ways of the Lord during your time with him, to walk in integrity and love, to document what is needed with wisdom, and to seek godly counsel and wise, trustworthy support from your church family and from appropriate legal counsel as needed, so that you act with both grace and wisdom.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is because of Jesus shedding His blood on the cross and rising again that we can be forgiven of all sin, including sexual sin outside of marriage, and be made new and have confidence that God hears our prayers. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, to confess your sins to Him, and to walk with Him daily.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this mother and her precious son to You. Lord, You see her heart, her love for her child, her desire to protect him and to raise him in good and godly values, and her fear about the future. We ask You to cover her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding and to heal her mind and heart where she has been wounded and disrespected. Strengthen her, uphold her with Your righteous right hand, and remind her daily that You are with her and will never leave her nor forsake her Deuteronomy 31:6. We pray for her son, Lord, protect his heart and mind from confusion, alienation, and manipulation. Let no scheme to turn him against his mother succeed, but let truth and love prevail in his life. Train him through his mother's godly influence and guard him from harm. We ask that You block every unjust and manipulative scheme to take him away or to move him unjustly from his mother. Bring to light what is done in darkness, frustrate the plans of the controlling and manipulative, and establish justice and truth in this custody situation. Give this mother wisdom, favor, and clear guidance in every decision, and surround her with godly counsel and support. We also pray for the father of this child, that You would convict his heart where he has acted in control and disrespect, lead him to repentance, and bring him to salvation in Jesus if he does not know You. Above all, we pray that this family would come to know Jesus more deeply and that Your will would be done in their lives, for Your glory. We ask all these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God, all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, and all those I love and care about. God, please forever honor this prayer over each of our lives. God Thank You. Amen, so be it by faith, and by faith, it is so. Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We hear how difficult this road has been for you, ###. Choosing to leave after many years, especially to protect your own wellbeing and your relationship with your son, takes real courage. And now carrying the worry that your ex might try to change the custody arrangement and move your son is an exhausting burden to hold alongside everyday parenting.

We admire your heart to give your son stability and to teach him good values in the time you have with him. That steady, loving presence half the time matters more than you may see day to day. Children feel security when a parent is consistent, calm, and keeps their word, even when the other household feels unpredictable.

One practical step that often brings some peace in this kind of uncertainty is to quietly get clarity while things are calm. Keeping brief, factual notes of parenting time and communications, and having a one time consult with a reputable family mediator or attorney in your area, can help you understand what is actually possible and what protections are already in place, so fear does not have to drive every decision. It also helps to stay connected to a trusted pastor, counselor, or small group who knows you and your son personally as you heal from all that has happened.

Father, we lift ### and his son to You. Give ### wisdom, steadiness, and rest, and guard his son in both homes. Give them peace in their time together and guide every decision about their future. Help ### to know he is not alone as he walks this out. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your request has been brought before the Lord with care and prayer for you and your son. We hear the heaviness you carry, the desire to protect your mental health and to preserve a loving and godly influence in your son's life, and the fear that stirs as you consider what your former partner may intend. We have prayed that God would guard you both, grant you wisdom, and quiet your heart with His presence.

The Scripture speaks often with this one tender command, Fear not. As you have heard, fear not is a plant which grows very plentifully in God's garden. The Lord says, Fear not, for I will help thee. Fear not, for I am with thee, be not dismayed for I am thy God. It is not merely a preacher who says this, but Jesus Himself who whispers to His own, Fear not.

We must labor to get rid, as much as possible, of fear. Fear is weakening and it dishonors God, as though the arm which piled the heavens and sustains the pillars of the earth could be palsied. The fear of man bringeth a snare, but he who fears God need fear no one else. When the Lord promises strength, we are called to trust that promised strength and to let fear be removed by that promise. Perfect love casts out fear, because fear hath torment, and as faith grows stronger, fear vanishes.

We do not know the future path of custody or where your former partner's heart may turn, but God knows and He reigns over all schemes and over all courts and over all hearts. We have asked Him to act justly and mercifully, to protect your son from harm and from being used as a pawn, to restrain any unjust or manipulative plan, and to establish what is right and stable for your son's good. We have prayed that you would be given clear wisdom for each decision, godly counsel close at hand, and strength to teach your son good values with patience and love, not in fear but in faith.

We also pray that you will know the forgiveness and peace that comes through Jesus Christ alone, for forgiveness is essential to the true fear of God, which is not dread but holy reverence and love for Him. When we are forgiven through His precious blood, we come to love and fear Him with a child's loving fear, a fear of grieving so tender a Father, which watches our steps and keeps us near Him.

Let us pray for you now.

Heavenly Father, we lift this parent and this precious son to Your throne of grace. You see their home, their separation, and every anxious thought. We ask that You would be their helper and keep them in Your hand. Cast out fear and give instead trust in Your promised strength. Guard this child in body and soul, let no unjust scheme prosper, and let truth and justice prevail in every decision concerning his care and dwelling. Grant this parent sound wisdom, calmness of mind, strength for each day, and a faithful walk before You, that this son may see in his parent a quiet trust in Christ and learn to love and fear You. Provide faithful believers nearby to support and counsel, and work even in the heart of the former partner according to Your mercy and righteousness. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who alone is our salvation and hope. Amen.

Continue to seek the Lord daily, rest upon His Word, and walk closely with a faithful local church where you can receive personal pastoral care and wise guidance in these practical matters. He who has promised, I will help thee, will not forsake you. Fear not.
