What time we are afraid we will trust in Him, and we join you now in bringing this anxious care before the throne of grace.
We have heard your prayer for your child who hastens to catch the train and fears his room key is left behind, and we carry it to our Father who hears the smallest cry of His children. He who numbers the hairs of our head and watches the sparrow fall is not unmindful of these little troubles that so press upon a young heart. There is comfort in the word, Emmanuel, God with us, for if God is with us on the Sabbath He is with us on the train, in the bag, in the crowded station and in the quiet room at the journey's end.
Let us pray together. O Lord our God, Thou hast taught us to cast all our care upon Thee for Thou carest for us, and we bring this child before Thee now. Be Thou with him through every mile of the journey, keep him in safety, calm his fearful thoughts and let him know that perfect love casteth out fear. Guide his hand to his bag and, if it be Thy gracious will, grant that the key may be found there where it was placed, that his heart may be quieted and his faith strengthened by seeing Thy hand in little things as well as great. If it should be otherwise, give him wisdom to seek help and peace to trust Thy providence which never faileth.
Teach us all, as humble children, to take our Father at His word and to trust and not be afraid, knowing that if we trust our souls with Christ alone we are safe, and that if God be for us none can be against us. May this small trial teach both parent and child to walk humbly with Thee, to declare our ways unto Thee and to hear Thy voice in return, and afterward to prepare a song of thanksgiving for Thy mercy.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who has pleaded the cause of our souls and redeemed our lives, to whom be glory now and ever. Amen.
