Constant Battle with my father who is a non-believer

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I moved back to live with my parents due to rent being so high but also God's timing was the best because my mom was unwell during that time and was diagnosed with ALS shortly after. I have seen my dad mistreat her, talk to her in a very rude manner and just not showing her the love she deserves. Due to the care she needed, she was moved to a facility but I'm still living at the house but now with my dad, almost 2 years now. I remember hearing him speak to my mom one night so rude, it broke me so the next morning I just went and asked him "why did you talk to mom the way you did last night?". His response was "is that the good Morning I get?" Fast forward, some things had to change where transfer of ownership for my mom's assets had to be in his name. He has never paid a penny of mortgage nor helped my mom with any bills and due to spouse benefits under social security, he also started receiving monies that he stated he'd be using to pay bills (according to what my mom said) - he's refused of such statements. He received a lumpsome around the time we were desperately looking for an MRI Appt due to her coverage taking long as well as PT/OT which her insurance no longer wanted to cover anymore but his response was always "I have tried to see if I can get funds from home but unfortunately I can't, I wish I can." He lies constantly, he worships money, I have seen so many scratch tickets and a note with a prayer of God to help him win and he'll help those in need. He never helped my mom when he received that lumpsome nor even use it towards any bills. Recently, there has been changes in my mom's health so I'd ask since he visits everyday (sometimes my mom wishes he'd stay home because he'll go there to tell her how he needs money for gas, about bills and if my mom says no or asks questions he'd get so mad and treat her so bad. My mom asked for an itemized receipt PM how he spends the money he received - he's never showed her for over a year now). On Sunday, he called me twice and sent a message asking if I'm going to visit my mom, I bring water and toothbrush for her. I was so low that day and I didn't wanna talk to anyone, so Monday he knocks on my door to ask me if I have read the message because he's going to ### to grab the water but I can buy mom's toothbrush. I said since you're going to the store please buy the toothbrush as well, he said I don't know the kind she uses, I said "oh it's just regular but medium." He walked off mumbling and I opened the door and I pretty much repeated the same thing and he said "I only have cash for the water" always lying because this was not the first reason he gave and I made it clear I won't be able to get the toothbrush. I am a born again Christian and I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior a little over 2 years now and got baptized 9 months ago. My mom is a staunch prayer warrior and a born again christian. My father no longer asks how she is, if she's in pain etc - ### I told him I don't know why he treats me the way he treats me and has that anger and defensive mode everytime I speak to him or ask him anything and I told him in the presence of my mom over the phone I'll never ask him anything about my mom again. One day I asked if he knew why they did bloodwork on my mom he started beating around the bush and I went back to ask the question again and he asked me to reach out to the unit manager. 2 months ago, mom mentioned she believes he's given up on her and I agree with that too. All the monies he was getting were all sent back home(my assumption). The way he talks and treats me he doesnt do that to my other 3 siblings and grandkids but certainly does that to my mom and me. Last night, I noticed the backyard light was left on and he was off to bed so I turned it off. Coming up, by the way he never says goodnight when he goes to sleep and neither do I, he came out of his room filled with anger saying that he's gonna go turn that light back on and I need to be very careful. So when I heard the last part I asked him "what do you mean by that?" He said the same way you did in the living room knowing I was getting ready to go eat and you dusted off the mat and I said you weren't there nor getting ready hence trying to clean up then. He then gets in the room and kept saying "I'll go back and turn it back on" and he shuts the door on me amd I said "I'm talking to you and you're shutting the door off on me?" I was so emotional and he said I'm being disrespectful raising my voice at him, he also mentioned with anger and I said oh I don't have anger but I am hurt and in pain on how you treat me and my prayer is no child will ever go through this. As I'm writing this his up and hasn't turned that light back off yet its 's 8:47am broad daylight, we have a huge electricity bill which he tells me to pay and other bills. When I tell him we need to discuss this in the presence of my mom - He goes "well, mom can't pay anything and even for me when I get the social security money I'm only left with 300." What's that? He's always said this even when His health coverage wasn't deducted and was getting a lot and over 500.00 of food benefits (I don't receive any of this). I told him well now you are only left with the 300 you keep mentioning but what about before? I was hospitalized a year ago and couldn't work for a few months and never once after discharge did he ever come and ask me if I needed anything. He did take me for my appts and I'm thankful but he's never asked me if I needed anything. When I asked to use the food benefits card he'd give me a budget of 50.00 my uncle lived with us then and he was also unwell and I'd try to make something for us even though I had balancing and sight issues then and sometimes he'd lie and say he doesn't have enough but will leave the card for my sister to come and get it whenever she asks and offers to give my brother when he'd come around to visit. I remember one time asking him if he even loved me when I found a receipt that showed a balance of over 300.00 and he said he doesn't have anything left and he also lied he has already used it to buy things when I checked the fridge and the freezer it was a lie. When I started working, I was still struggling financially and asked if I can use the card to get food for me and for mom - he said no or gave me a budget again. I told him you receive over 500/month but you never answer with just yes. His response was "well, imagine I wasn't receiving benefits, we'd go back and dig in our pockets, right so let's dig back in our pockets." I said "I thank God I am back to work and I know He has blessed me and I will go back and dig in my pocket." I have never asked him for help since because my help comes from the Lord. God has removed the anger, bitterness and a dislike that was so close to hatred towards him. I have cried to God to protect me from the atta KS amd strongholds this man carries tp be a hindrance to me entering the kingdom of God. He calls my sister everytime to say things to her. My mom's clothes are usually washed at home, I never know when they're brought back because he never tells me but he'll call my sister and ask her to come grab them to wash them even though I ended up fixing the washer that he refused to fix, he called a technician who quoted 500.00 and he said it was too expensive and never followed up. So I took actions in my hands and fixed it and paid for it. My sister sent me a text not to be "leaving it to my dad to do laundry" I told her I can't leave anything to someone I have no knowledge of so she asked if I can make it a point to be checking the room regularly. There's a time she was called to come get the clothes, I was working from home and noticed there were soiled clothes there when I went to grab something and I went straight to wash them. But he wouldn't have known because he doesn't communicate with me. I volunteer to feed the less privileged every 3rd or 4th week of the month and one Saturday I was making beef stew and I didn't have time at home so I decided to go finish it at the place we volunteer, I had plans to out some aside for him and myself since it was my first time making it. The people loved it so much and it was over and I left raw cut up potatoes due to time and I didn't think I'd be able to have them ready by the time we start serving. A few days after I receive this message from my sister after the laundry message. "just try and come up with a way to routinely check in that room because also I am not sure how you and Papa communicate since another issue is the strained relationship between you and Papa and it's my hope and prayer that you find the urgent need to work around that. It is quite unfortunate. What's going on is very saddening. You are going above and beyond matters church and fellowship and prayer meetings and volunteering yet in your very own corner you are not giving that much time and attention for forgiveness and healing and loving in harmony with your own father. Charity begins at home. Papa has had major flaws and blunders, and so have you and everyone else in this family...but with all due honesty, there are matters you have handled without wisdom and sticking to your lane as a child when it comes to honor and respect, regardless of what you may think his sins are. But again, this is my opinion, probably an unpopular one with you. Please seek God and forever is not guaranteed. Always remember that. As much as we are advocating for mum and calling out on all that Papa has done or said, you need to understand your boundaries as a child. The Bible speaks clearly about that. You cooked so much the other day, which you rarely do even for Papa...to take food out there yet your own father has lost so much weight in your presence. All you left behind was raw potatoes. And any other time you cook, it's just your stuff. I know there has been issues with him going shopping and not letting you know but point is I spoke to you way back and asked you to sit down with him and talk over all those issues. But for you, you'd rather walk away than be patient even if you have to try over and over again." I responded with "no comment and have a blessed day". I have had these conversations with someone who has so much anger, hatred and so cold towards me. I have cooked before never said "this is my food only " he never eats my food even the times I have made broth for my mom and tell him it's enough for both you and mom he won't drink it and I'm forced to throw the soup away. I went to ### for a week and I had made salmon and veggies, I came back to the same food untouched and gone bad and threw it away. I love cooking so aby new recipes, I leave a note to tell him what I've made if no new recipes he's welcomed to. Now, I'll buy like baby spinach which we can use even though I have a full box he'd gp and buy his own. I decided not to go back and forth with her and went and told my dad he doesn't have to call anyone to tell them about me, I'm here and he can have a conversation with me I'm also his daughter and for me to be told he's losing weight in my corner when I've never restricted him to anything. He said he never told my sister those words and it's his choice to not eat the food as he only eats boiled food." Then why did he tell my sister about the food I cooked for the less privileged? I brought it up last night and he said "show me a text I sent that to her", I said it was a phone call, he said "show me a voice note" I said it was a phone call. Then he said he told her there was beef made and it would've been nice if he tried some and I told him that's the conversation you have with me to clear the air. Weeks ago I did go and talked to him after receiving that message from my sister and asked him to forgive him where I have wronged him - not the first time I've done this because I don't know why he treats me with so much hatred and anger. I know I have done nothing wrong to him in the eyes of the Lord and even the disrespect he's talking about but this man can curse me and I honestly don't know. For almost a year now he has been doing weird things. He covers my mom's mirrors in the bedroom with a blanket, at night he tapes black trash bags on the window behind the curtain with blankets and towels and the side my mom used to sleep he puts boxes and covers them with blankets and towels and the bathroom windows he faces them towards each other and the mirror to her jewelry armor faces the sink where you can see yourself. I need prayers, I really do. I'm strong in the Lord but I need prayers. I have not shared this with any of my siblings and yesterday I decided to share with my mom's sisters and I have a friend and cousin who knows what I've been going through. I did share stuff with my mom before but I have decided after sharing with my aunts I'll remain quiet. When I work from home I stay in my room until he leaves and it's usually around 1pm. Thats when I can eat, get a water, be free and myself. When he comes back and I'm home I lower the volume of what I'm watching, if it's comedy, I laugh in silence and I whisper if I'm on the phone and when I listen to the word I lower my volume or put on my ear buds. The other day I asked God have I given the enemy this much power over me? But I am at peace when in my room and alone. I have lived with my mom before and it was the best time of my life, I miss her so much and I believe that God will bring her back home in Jesus Mighty name. Amen I used to have suicidal thoughts but enemy you're not gonna take me there. I know this man's plans is for me to move out and he can do what he wants to do with my mom's property and belongings. I have been told I'm too mature for my age, a no-nonesense woman and I'm very transparent and I believe this is the reason why he doesn't like me. I want to jump on the grave that I once lived in and I believe this too shall pass. There's a reason I came across this, please pray for me.

We hear your heart, dear sister in Christ, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting every burden before the throne of God. Your situation is heavy, filled with pain, injustice, and the weight of living under the same roof as someone whose ways are so contrary to God’s heart. But we declare that the Lord sees you, hears you, and will not abandon you. You are not alone in this battle.

First, we must address the spiritual warfare at play here. Your father’s actions, his deception, idolatry of money, mistreatment of your mother, and the darkness he seems to invite into the home, are not just human failings but manifestations of a heart hardened by sin. The covering of mirrors, the taping of windows, the strange rituals, these are not of God. Scripture warns us in Ephesians 6:12, "For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and he will use even family to do it. But we rebuke every assignment of darkness over your life, your mother’s life, and this home in the mighty name of Jesus. We command every spirit of division, strife, deception, and witchcraft to flee now! The blood of Jesus has broken every chain.

We also rebuke the lies the enemy has whispered to you, that you are powerless, that this will never change, that you are somehow to blame. You are a child of the Most High God, and no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). The Lord has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). You are not responsible for your father’s choices, nor are you called to endure abuse in silence. Proverbs 31:8-9 tells us, "Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are left desolate. Open your mouth, judge righteously, and serve justice to the poor and needy." You have spoken up for your mother, and that is righteous. But we must also encourage you to set boundaries with wisdom. Living in peace under the same roof as someone who sows discord is nearly impossible, and the Lord does not expect you to remain in a toxic environment indefinitely. Pray for discernment about when and how to create distance for your own spiritual and emotional well-being.

Your father’s unbelief is a deep grief, but it is not yours to carry alone. Romans 10:13-14 reminds us, "For, ‘Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher?" You are a preacher to him by your life, your patience, your kindness, your refusal to retaliate. But we must also be honest: his heart is hardened, and only the Holy Spirit can soften it. We pray for his salvation fervently, that the scales would fall from his eyes and he would see the truth of Jesus Christ. Until then, guard your heart. Proverbs 4:23 warns, "Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life." Do not let bitterness take root. You have already testified that God has removed anger and hatred from you, praise God for that victory! But we must continue to pray for supernatural love to cover this offense, even as we refuse to enable his sin.

Your mother’s suffering is heartbreaking, and we lift her up in prayer. ALS is a cruel disease, but we declare that God is her healer, her comforter, and her strength. Psalm 34:18 says, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." We pray for divine visits in that facility, for angels to minister to her, and for the Lord to sustain her until He chooses to call her home or restore her. We also pray for wisdom for you and your siblings in how to advocate for her care. Your father’s financial deception is wicked, and we rebuke every lie he has told to withhold provision from her. Proverbs 13:11 says, "Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, but he who gathers by labor will increase." His greed will not prosper in the end. We pray that the truth would come to light and that justice would be served.

To your sister’s words, we say this: charity does begin at home, but it does not mean enduring abuse or enabling sin. You are not responsible for your father’s weight loss or his choices. His refusal to eat your food is his own rebellion, not a reflection of your love. Proverbs 15:1 says, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." You have answered with gentleness, and that is to your credit. But do not let guilt manipulate you into tolerating mistreatment. Your sister’s words carry some truth, honor is due to your father (Ephesians 6:2), but honor does not mean silence in the face of sin. Jesus honored His Father by speaking truth, even when it was unpopular. You are walking in His footsteps.

We must also address the spiritual attack on your mind. The enemy has tried to isolate you, to make you feel trapped, and even to plant suicidal thoughts. But we declare that you are a conqueror in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:37). The Lord has brought you out of that darkness before, and He will do it again. Psalm 34:19 says, "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all." You are not forgotten. You are not abandoned. The Lord has a plan for you, and it is a plan for hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). We pray for open doors for you to move into a place of peace, if that is God’s will. Until then, we declare that your room is a sanctuary, a place where the presence of God dwells. You are not a prisoner in that home, you are a warrior, and your weapons are not carnal but mighty through God (2 Corinthians 10:4).

Now, let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our sister who is enduring so much. Lord, You see every tear, every injustice, every moment of pain. We ask You to be her shield and her refuge. Surround her with Your angels, Lord, and let Your presence fill every corner of her life. We rebuke every spirit of division, strife, and witchcraft that has entered that home. We break every curse, every assignment of darkness, and every lie of the enemy in Jesus’ name.

Father, we pray for her father. Soften his heart, Lord. Let him see the error of his ways. Expose every lie he has believed, every idol he has worshiped, and every sin he has committed. Let conviction fall upon him, and let him turn to You in repentance. If it is Your will, Lord, save him. Let him know the love of Christ that surpasses all understanding.

For her mother, we pray for healing, comfort, and strength. Let her feel Your presence in that facility, Lord. Let her know she is not forgotten. Give her peace in the midst of her suffering, and let her feel the love of her family, especially her children.

For our sister, we pray for wisdom, discernment, and courage. Give her the strength to set boundaries where needed, Lord. Open doors for her to move into a place of peace if that is Your will. Let her know that she is not alone, You are with her, and we stand with her in prayer. Heal every wound, Lord. Restore what has been stolen. Let her walk in the fullness of Your joy and peace.

We declare that this trial will not break her but will refine her like gold. Let her emerge from this stronger, wiser, and more dependent on You. We speak life over her home, her family, and her future. Let Your will be done in every situation, Lord, and let Your name be glorified.

In the precious and powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Hold fast to the Lord, dear sister. This battle is not yours, it is the Lord’s. You are merely a vessel, and He will use this for your good and His glory. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and do not grow weary in doing good (Galatians 6:9). The Lord is faithful, and He will complete the work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6). You are loved, you are chosen, and you are victorious.

We’ve been sitting with your words, and we’re so sorry you’re walking through this. What you’ve described, the lies, the coldness, being made to feel invisible and unsafe in your own home, is deeply painful. Emotional and financial abuse like this grinds away at a person’s spirit, and it’s not something you can just “work around” by trying harder. The way your father treats you and your mother is not your fault, and it’s not a reflection of your worth.

One thing we want you to hold onto: forgiveness and trust are not the same as staying unprotected. You’ve already tried to clear the air and ask forgiveness where you may have failed. At this point, setting strong, quiet boundaries is not unloving, it’s wise. Continuing to limit contact when he’s home, not engaging in arguments, and refusing to be pulled into explanations that go in circles, all of this seems like the steady care you’ve already been practicing. Keep that peace. It’s not hiding; it’s stewarding your own soul.

If you haven’t already, we’d gently encourage you to talk with a trusted pastor or a mature Christian counselor outside your family. You don’t have to carry the weight of this story alone, and having someone walk with you can bring clarity and another layer of safety. You’re already leaning on your aunts and a friend, which is good. Keep that circle close.

Your sister’s words clearly hurt, but they don’t define you or what God is doing in you. You’ve served others with an open heart, even while hurting, and the Lord sees that. We’re standing with you in prayer now.

Father, we lift up this daughter who feels pressed down, yet still holds onto You. Please shield her heart and mind with Your peace. Give her wisdom for each day, and protect her from words and actions meant to wound. We ask for her mother’s comfort and for a real breakthrough in her health, and we pray that in Your time You’ll open a door to a more peaceful and safe living situation. Until then, be her refuge in that room, and let her know deeply that she is not forgotten. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You are passing through waters deep, and the billows swell; yet the Lord sitteth upon the flood, yea, the Lord sitteth King forever. You have tasted of that peace which the world cannot give, and the enemy cannot steal, for it is the very peace of God which passeth all understanding, keeping the heart and mind through Christ Jesus. Yet now the trial is sharp, and the adversary would whisper that peace is fled. Listen not to him. The peace of God is not the peace of the devil, which is a false calm before the breaking of the storm; but it is a peace rooted in the blood of Jesus, which whispers peace within even when the world is dark. You have believed, and therefore you have peace, peace! perfect peace!, for the mind is stayed on Jehovah, trusting in Him.

This burden you bear concerning your father is heavy indeed. It writhes with injustice, with lying lips, with a heart that worships mammon rather than the Most High. You have seen the cruelty of his tongue toward your sainted mother, and you have felt the cold disdain poured upon your own head. The flesh cries out for vindication, for deliverance, for a change in the man’s heart. But remember, dear soul, that the Lord reigneth. Even that man’s steps are overruled by Him who hath highly exalted His Son, Jesus, and hath prepared a throne for all who are in Him. The true Father, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, hath blessed you with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places, and none, not even the most perverse of men, can snatch away those blessings. You have a Father that never deals treacherously, never lies, never loveth silver more than His child.

The advice of your sister touches a tender spot, and I would not dismiss it wholly. Yet I must say this: charity doth indeed begin at home, but its home begins in the heart renewed by grace, and its rule is the law of Christ. You are called to honor your father, and that is a command no circumstance can erase. But true honor to an erring parent may sometimes mean speaking the truth in love, even with tears, rather than smoothing over his sins with a false peace that comes from the pit. You have asked forgiveness where you sensed any wrong in yourself; that is right. You have sought to serve; that is Christlike. But do not confuse the peace of surrender to God with the peace of complicity in darkness. If he covers the windows with black bags and mutters threats, it is a token of a soul in bondage, and you cannot deliver him, only the Lord can.

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee. You have done right to pour out your heart to your mother's sisters and to trusted friends; yet above all, pour it out before the mercy seat. He that keepeth Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. When you must hush your laughter and whisper in your own dwelling, remember that the Lord seeth in secret, and He is your sanctuary. He can give you a solitude of soul even in the tumult, a peace in the midst of the wildest turmoil. Do not run away from the path of duty, for that were to find a whale’s belly in the depths. Fight it out, woman of God, on your knees! The weapons of your warfare are not carnal; you are more than conqueror through Him that loved you.

Concerning the strange darkness over your father, his covering of mirrors, his hoarding while you struggle, remember that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers. The strongholds you perceive are spiritual. Yet the promise stands: He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. That way is the way of believing, childlike trust in His providential guidance. You are kept, not because the enemy is absent, but because the Keeper is present. Your help cometh from the Lord, not from the food-benefit card nor from an earthly father’s pity. You have dug in your own pocket, and God hath blessed you; He will not fail thee now.

I charge you, then, to go in peace. Go in peace, for your faith hath saved you; the blood of Jesus speaks better things than the accusations of the enemy. Go in peace, even when the morning brings a fresh hard word. Go in peace, even when your sister’s misunderstanding pierces you. Go in peace, for He that hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Christ. And yet, oh, let me whisper it, remember the prodigal’s Father. He stands with arms ready. You cannot break the stony heart of your earthly father, but the Spirit can make a father in Christ of him yet. Who knoweth but that your patient suffering, your quiet continuance in the place where God has set you, may be the very instrument to bring that soul to say, “Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Thy sight”? The covenant stands sure, and the Father from whom every family in heaven and earth is named is able to do exceeding abundantly above all you ask or think. Until then, keep thy lamp trimmed, and when the darkness thickens, sing with me,

“Peace! perfect peace! in this dark world of sin?
The blood of Jesus whispers peace within.”

Thank you so much!!! And Amen!!! Thank you so much ### and yes, this morning I asked God to show me who I can speak to at church.

AMEN!!!! Thank you so much
You are passing through waters deep, and the billows swell; yet the Lord sitteth upon the flood, yea, the Lord sitteth King forever.

Hallelujah!!! Amen!!!! I claim and receive that only God gives that surpasses all human understanding and the joy that the book of James has declared, is my portion through all the trials and tribulations. Amen!!!
