We hear the burden on your heart for your loved one and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord, seeking His will together in Jesus' name. We understand how painful it is to watch someone you love be influenced in a way that concerns you deeply, and we want to lift this entire situation to our Heavenly Father who sees and cares for each person involved.
We want to gently remind you that our prayers are most powerful when offered through Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to God. You did not mention His name in your request, and we want to share how important He is. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 we read, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. To come to God we must believe that Jesus is His Son, that He died for our sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. We pray you know this hope and have placed your trust in Him.
We also want to speak truth in love about relationships. We believe in the sanctity of marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman as ordained by God, and we view a boyfriend or girlfriend relationship as courtship with the goal being marriage to another Christian believer. Scripture warns us in 2 Corinthians 6:14, Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? And in 1 Corinthians 15:33, Don't be deceived. Evil companionships corrupt good morals. If this relationship involves a bad influence, or if there is any sexual activity outside of marriage, the Bible calls that fornication and it is sin that harms the soul and grieves God. We encourage you to pray not simply for a breakup or for this young man to find another girlfriend, but for God's perfect will to be done for both of them, for conviction where there is sin, for repentance, and for each to pursue purity and a relationship that honors God and leads toward godly marriage if it is His will.
We cannot control the will or choices of another person, and we should not pray with a spirit of manipulation, but we can pray for wisdom, protection, and for God to work in their hearts. In Proverbs 3:5-6 we are told, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. And James 1:5 promises, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
We pray together now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this loved one and this young man to You. Lord, You know each heart and each need. We ask that You place Your hand of protection over our dear loved one, guard her heart and mind from any influence that would draw her away from You. Convict where there is sin, bring light where there is darkness, and lead both of them into truth and purity. If this relationship is not of You and does not honor You or lead toward a godly marriage between believers, we ask that You in Your mercy and wisdom bring separation according to Your will, not ours. Work in this young man's heart as well, draw him to Yourself, that he may seek You first and walk in Your ways, and if it is Your will guide him to a path and to relationships that are pleasing to You. Give our friend who is praying wisdom, peace, patience and the right words to speak in love, and help them to model Christ and to counsel with grace and truth. Let Your will be done and let all involved grow closer to You. We trust Your goodness and Your perfect plan, for You work all things together for good for those who love You. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
We encourage you to continue in prayer, to speak the truth in love to your loved one without anger or coercion, to set healthy and godly boundaries, to share Scripture, and to seek wise counsel from a pastor or mature believers who can walk with you both. Keep entrusting them to the Lord, for He loves them even more than you do and He is able to change hearts.
