We hear your deep concern and love for your niece and we join with you in bringing her before the Lord, seeking His will together in Jesus' name.
We understand how heavy it is to watch someone you love be influenced in a way that worries you. Scripture teaches us that the company we keep matters greatly. Do not be deceived. Evil companionships corrupt good morals. 1 Corinthians 15:33 and He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm. Proverbs 13:20 We also know that God desires courtship to be entered into with purpose and purity, with the goal of a godly marriage between a man and a woman who are both believers in Christ. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness and iniquity. Or what fellowship has light with darkness. 2 Corinthians 6:14 If this young man is leading your niece away from wisdom, purity, or faith, or if there is any fornication or impurity in the courtship, which is sex before or outside of marriage, we must call it what God calls it and pray that both would turn from it and pursue holiness, for God calls us to flee sexual immorality and to honor Him with our bodies.
We want to gently encourage you that while your desire to protect her is good, we cannot control or manipulate another person's relationships, but we can commit them to the Lord who is sovereign and who works all things for good for those who love Him. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 If it is not God's will for this courtship to continue toward marriage, we pray He will make that clear and give your niece discernment and strength to step away. And if He does bring a separation, we pray He would lead both your niece and this young man toward repentance and toward godly spouses in His perfect timing, not simply a new girlfriend or boyfriend for the sake of moving on, but a future marriage that honors Him.
We also notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 It is because Jesus died for our sins and rose again that we can come boldly to God in prayer and be forgiven and made new. We encourage you to place your trust fully in Him, and to pray for your niece and this young man to know Him as Savior also.
We pray together for you all.
Father in heaven, we lift up this niece to You and ask for Your hand of protection over her heart, mind, and body. Give her wisdom that comes from above, for You have promised If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5 Open her eyes to see the influence around her clearly and give her courage to choose what is right. We pray for this young man as well, that You would work in his heart, draw him to Yourself, convict him where he needs correction, and lead him on a path of righteousness, whether that path includes a future godly marriage with someone You have prepared for him. We pray for this family, that they would speak the truth in love to this young woman, with grace and not harshness, and that the parents or guardians would be given discernment to guide her well. Above all let Your will be done, not ours, and let this situation result in both lives being drawn closer to You and to Your design for purity and marriage. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
We encourage you to continue in steady prayer, to show your niece unconditional love while speaking truth, to involve her parents or guardians in a respectful way, and to model and share the hope of Christ with both of them. Trust the Lord to guard her steps and to lead her toward a future that honors Him.
