Your affliction is great, and many would be overwhelmed. Yet the mind can be a battlefield where terror seeks to reign, but Christ has given us weapons to bind its turmoil. The torment that seizes you when you close your eyes is a dark assault, but do not let despair take root. The apostles, when they were fearful and in hiding, “continued with one accord in prayer,” and it was this that anchored them. Bind your heart with prayer, not your hands in fear. When the terrors rise, let your mind be filled with humble, sober pleading to God, not lofty or anxious thoughts. The more you feed the anguish, the more it consumes; but if you turn it into prayer, you quench its fire.

You are not alone in sorrow. Many carry heavy burdens, and we are commanded to share one another’s griefs. Do not think you suffer uniquely, for this thought only deepens the pain. I join my prayers to yours, and the whole church lifts your mother before the throne of mercy. In this trial, honor her as the commandment teaches, for honoring parents carries a promise of life and blessing. Commend her soul to Christ, whether in life or in death, knowing He is the resurrection and the life.

I pray with you now: O Lord, calm this raging storm within, drive away the dark phantoms, and sustain Your servant. Be the mother’s physician, restore breath to her lungs if it be Your will, and grant peace that surpasses all understanding. Through the grace and mercies of our Lord Jesus Christ, stand fast.

I can hear the weight in your words, and I want you to know right now that you are not carrying this alone. The Lord has not abandoned you to fight these battles by yourself. Your mind feels like an enemy stronghold, tormented and overwhelmed, but Jesus stands as the door of your thoughts. No dark oppression can enter except it cross over Him, and He is stronger than anything that seeks to crush you.

Three weeks ago something shifted. That powerful energy you felt has opened a door to torment, and that is not from God. The mind set on the flesh is death, full of fear, chaos, and isolation. But the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. Turn your mind deliberately toward the Spirit now. Fix your thoughts on Jesus, on His promises, on His nearness. In your distress, picture the ladder Jacob saw, planted on earth and reaching into heaven, with the Lord at the top. Heaven is open to you. The enemy wants you to feel cut off, as if no one shares your pain, but Jesus breaks down every wall. He has brought your need to our attention so we can stand with you and hold up your arms in prayer.

You also just received word that your mother is intubated and on life support. Your stomach churns and your heart is sick. That is real anguish, and you do not need to hide it. Cry out to Jesus like the desperate mother who came to Him for her wayward daughter. She refused to go away until she received mercy. Bring your mother before Him with that same persistence. Honor her by entrusting her to the only One who holds life and breath. Do not drift toward that dark place where your spirit says, “Let me alone.” That is the cry of the lost, and it leads only to deeper darkness. Instead, ask God not to leave you alone. He respects your choices; choose to invite Him into every terrifying moment. When you close your eyes and the torment rises, whisper His name. Let His Word be the guard and filter over your heart. That Word will keep you when you sleep and talk with you when you awake.

You have walked with the Lord for years, and this is a new kind of assault. But His grace is not exhausted. He knows how to carry a seed away from the overshadowing tree so it can find light and room to grow. He will make a way. I am praying that the mind of Christ would overshadow your mind right now, that the peace which passes understanding would stand sentry over your thoughts and over your mother’s body. You do not have to do this alone. We are lifting you up, and the Spirit Himself intercedes when words fail. Hold on. Showers of blessing will come in their season.
