Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart so honestly in your exhaustion. God sees when you are worn down physically and emotionally, and He hears your prayer for His presence, His peace, and His strength.
That kind of weariness often touches more than the body and the emotions. There is a thirst in the spirit of a person that cannot be satisfied with only physical rest or even with an emotional experience. Jesus spoke to that deeper thirst when He invited anyone who thirsts to come to Him and drink. The world tries to answer spiritual thirst with material things or with one emotional high after another, but those things do not last. When the moment passes, the thirst remains. True refreshing comes when you come to Christ Himself and receive from Him. He alone can satisfy the inner person.
Scripture reminds us where real strength comes from. The Lord is the light and salvation of His people, the strength of their lives, so we need not fear. He is a strength and a shield to those who trust in Him. One psalm puts it simply that the Lord will give strength to His people and will bless His people with peace. That strength is not found in trying harder in our own power. Like the picture of a life set apart to God, strength is found in belonging to Him and resting in His commitment to you, not in your own resolve. When you have no strength left, as Daniel once described after being overwhelmed by a vision, God does not turn away. He understands what it is to be completely wiped out, with no strength remaining, and He is the one who restores.
You also asked for peaceful, restorative sleep, and God speaks tenderly to that need. Jesus described Himself as the door of the sheepfold, the one who lies across the opening so that nothing can come in and none of His sheep can wander out without passing by Him. You can rest because He is watching over you. There is a beautiful promise that His people will dwell safely and sleep even in the wilderness and in the woods, and that He sends showers of blessing in their season. Think of Jacob, exhausted from his journey, lying down to sleep with only a stone for a pillow. In his dream he saw a ladder from earth to heaven and the Lord standing above it, watching over him. Even in that lonely, tiring place, God was present and keeping him. He is present with you in the same way tonight.
I am praying for you now.
Father, in the name of Jesus, I ask You to surround this dear one with Your presence tonight. You know the physical tiredness and the emotional weight that feels so heavy. Be near as the shepherd who guards the door, keeping watch through the night. Pour out Your peace that passes understanding and quiet the heart and mind. Grant deep, restorative sleep, and renew both body and spirit. You have promised to give strength to Your people and to bless them with peace, so give strength for tomorrow, breath by breath, step by step. Help this heart to drink deeply of Jesus, to be refreshed in the inner person, and to find that You are indeed strength and shield. Let Your Word be nourishment and Your presence be rest. Amen.
As you seek Him, keep feeding the inner person as you feed the body. Take time in prayer and in His Word, even in brief, quiet moments, and let Him be your portion. He is faithful to carry you, to give you sleep under His care, and to supply the strength you need for each new day.
