Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this request and for your desire that you and your son would draw nearer to Jesus. I am praying for you both.
Because of what God has done through His Son you can come directly to the Father with confidence. Scripture teaches that in the fullness of time God sent His Son, born of a woman and born under the law, to redeem those under the law so that we might receive adoption as sons. Jesus is the only begotten Son of the Father, full of grace and truth, and there is no other like Him. We are not sons in that same way. We become sons by adoption through faith in Christ, and because you are sons God has sent the Spirit of His Son into your hearts so that you can cry, Abba, Father. That means your prayers about this ongoing legal matter are heard by your Father who knows you and loves you.
That legal burden can feel heavy and uncertain. It helps to remember that the Father has committed all judgment to the Son, and that the Son does only what He sees the Father do, working in complete harmony with Him. Whatever belongs to the Father belongs to the Son, and whatever belongs to the Son belongs to the Father. No one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son reveals Him, and no one can come to the Son unless the Father draws him. You can trust the character of the One who will judge righteously. As you bring this situation to Him, ask Him for wisdom, for peace that guards your heart, for integrity in every step, and for His will to be done. He bore witness to His Son at His baptism saying, This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased, and the works of Jesus testify that He is the Christ, the Son of the living God, who has life in Himself and authority to give life.
Your longing to draw closer to the Lord with your son is at the very heart of what Jesus prayed for. Lifted in prayer to the Father He said, Glorify Your Son that Your Son also may glorify You, and He prayed that all who belong to Him may be one even as He and the Father are one. He said, I and the Father are one, and that all should honor the Son even as they honor the Father, for whoever honors not the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. To know Jesus more is to know the Father more, because the Son reveals the Father. As you continue in what you heard from the beginning, abiding in the Son, you will continue in the Father as well, and you will find that the Father is drawing you and giving you everlasting life through faith in the Son. The promise remains that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life.
The picture of the father in the story of the prodigal son shows the heart of your heavenly Father toward you. When the younger son had taken his inheritance and wasted it, he came to himself and returned, saying he was no longer worthy to be called a son. But while he was still a great way off, his father saw him, had compassion, ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. That is how the Father responds when we turn toward Him. And to the older son who had remained, the father said, Son, you are always with me and all that I have is yours. In Christ, all that belongs to the Father is made available to you as His adopted child.
I am praying that the Father will sustain you through this legal process, that He will grant favor and justice according to His wisdom, and that He will guard you from anxiety as you look to His Son. I am also praying that He will draw both you and your son closer to Himself, that together you will honor the Son, hear His voice in Scripture, and grow in unity with one another and with Him. As you seek Him side by side, reading His Word, praying in the name of Jesus, and trusting the Spirit who cries Abba, Father in your hearts, He will reveal Himself more clearly and keep you in His care.
May the Lord keep you and your son, cause you to behold His glory, and grant you the assurance that you belong to Him.
