There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is only through Him that we gain access to the Father (John 14:6). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, we urge you to confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection for your salvation, and invite Him to be the Lord of your life. This is the foundation upon which all other healing and direction must be built.
Your struggle with alcoholism is not just a physical or emotional battle, it is a spiritual one. The Bible warns us that wine is a mocker and strong drink is raging, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise (Proverbs 20:1). Addiction enslaves the body and soul, but Christ came to set the captives free (Luke 4:18). We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus and declare that you are no longer bound to its chains. The apostle Paul reminds us, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. The voice of the Good Shepherd is not a harsh command, but a tender, personal call, He calleth His own sheep by name. You are named in His book, and your very unrest proves His drawing. Your addiction to drink is the heavy chain of nature, yet the effectual call of Christ has a Divine necessity about it: “I must bring them.” He came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Do you feel the weight of your chains? That is the beginning of His deliverance. Come to Him, just as you are, weary and heavy-laden, and He will give you rest. Not rest from a few sins only, but rest from the drudgery of self.
You speak of lacking self-identity and love. This is no small mercy. Self-esteem is the speck that most effectually mars human vision. The Great Surgeon of souls removes it by sanctified afflictions, that we might see Christ alone. You are black in yourself, as the tents of Kedar, but you are comely in Him. Cease from the vain pursuit of loving yourself; rather, lose yourself in the One who loved you and gave Himself for you. When self goes, God comes in. That hunger for worth is a holy hunger, if it drives you to feed on the Bread of Life.
As for divine guidance for your calling, know this: effectual calling is a high calling, heavenly in its origin and its aim. Has it lifted your heart to set itself on things above? Then wait upon the Lord with humble submission. Haste is the author of great mischief. The Lord infuses principles of self-denial, faith, and acquiescence in His will into every soul He guides. Watch and pray, examine your motives daily, and keep your own vineyard. When you know not the way, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. He who called Abram went before him; so will He lead you, step by step, as you trust not in your own understanding. Rise up, then, and follow Him at once, for He must save you; and He will lead you out.
