Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You bring before the church a burden of addiction, a hollow sense of self, and a longing for God’s calling on your life. But I must ask: why do you seek? Do you seek merely to be filled and soothed, like those who followed after loaves, or do you seek the miracle itself, the work of God in your soul? Labor not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life. The bottle promises a fleeting comfort, but it delivers enmity and chains. Get love for nothing, but do not for nothing get hatred. Why take up a gratuitous enmity against your own flesh and your own calling?

When virtue is wanting, all things are vain, not only your natural identity, but even your very sense of being a child of God profits nothing without a mind set on obedience. Neither success in bringing others right, nor being diligent for one’s own outward self, is of itself any gain. I am set to declare to you the whole counsel of God, and I must do so plainly that I may be pure from your blood. Night and day I would warn you with tears: do not shrink from the sharpness of the goad that pricks your dullness. Love is a great teacher, able to withdraw men from error, to reform the character, and to lead them by the hand unto self-denial. Love suffereth long and is kind; love envieth not, vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up. Out of stones love makes men. That is the identity you lack, not a feeling of love for yourself, but a soul shaped by divine love, which first denies the perishable.

You desire spiritual direction for your calling. Then see through and look upon the very Sun of Righteousness. Do not run after Him with unseasonable demands or out of vainglory, wanting a sign or a comfortable assurance. His mother and brethren according to the flesh gained nothing from nearness if they lacked virtue. Neither will you, unless you do all that is required. He stretched out His hand toward His disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren. So stretch out your hand in love, that right hand of fellowship that embraces the whole Church, and let all things you do, whether rebuke or rule, learn or teach, be done in love. Let love be the teacher that draws you out of the belly’s slavery into self-government, that you may live the present life in security, and after a little advance attain unto the good things promised. My love be with you in this; with all of you I am in spirit, even as I write, holding not my own life dear but the finishing of your course with joy.

You are facing a cluster of struggles that all trace back to one thing: a deep, unmet need for love. Not the kind of love the world offers, but the kind of love that can truly satisfy. Alcoholism feeds a craving for relief and escape, but it is essentially a self-centered love. It seeks to gratify self, to numb pain, to fill an emptiness, and it never delivers. That same self-focused pattern creeps into our search for identity, leaving us feeling lost, because self-love apart from God can never give us a solid foundation.

The love you need is not found in what you can get for yourself. There is a divine love that is entirely different. It is a giving, self-sacrificing love. God loved you not because you were lovely, but because He Himself is love. While you were still entangled in sin and weakness, He sent His Son to be the atoning sacrifice for you. He knows you completely, every broken part, every hidden shame, and yet He loves you. That truth is where identity begins. You do not have to manufacture self-love; you are invited to receive a love so vast that it will take eternity to fully grasp. When that love dawns on your heart, it awakens a genuine response. We love Him because He first loved us.

That love then changes everything. It uproots the self-centered cravings that drive addiction. It shows you that your body and your life are meant for something higher than self-gratification. The fruit of God’s Spirit dwelling in you is a love that is patient, kind, and not self-seeking. It is a love that says no to the flesh so that it can say yes to a greater purpose. As you abide in His love, He gives you both the desire and the power to walk away from what has held you captive. This is not about white-knuckling your way to sobriety, but about being so filled with His love that the counterfeit pleasures lose their hold.

Spiritual direction and divine calling flow out of that same place. Jesus asks you, as He asked Peter, “Do you love Me more than these?” More than the escape of alcohol, more than the frantic search for an identity built on shifting sand. When loving Him becomes the supreme love of your life, everything else aligns. You find that your calling is not about achieving status or proving your worth, but about loving God and loving others with the very love He has poured into you. That calling looks different for each person, but its heart is always reconciliation and self-giving service.

Return to that first love. The Spirit is gently calling you back to the simplicity of being loved by God and loving Him in return. Let that be where you place your feet. Practical steps of obedience, seeking help, putting away opportunities for temptation, gathering with believers who will remind you of the truth, will follow. But the core is this: let His love define you, satisfy you, and lead you. He will guide you into the good works He has prepared for you. You do not need to figure it all out today. You only need to turn from the empty loves that are destroying you, and receive the unquenchable love that never fails.

We want to thank you for the trust you placed in us by sharing your heart and allowing us to stand with you in prayer. It has been our privilege to lift your struggles with addiction, the deep longing for identity and love, and your desire for spiritual guidance and clarity in God’s calling before our Heavenly Father. We have prayed earnestly that He would break the chains of alcoholism in your life, restore your sense of worth in Christ, and reveal His perfect will for you with unmistakable clarity.

If God has moved in powerful ways since you posted—if you’ve experienced freedom, felt His love more deeply, or received direction—we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report. Your testimony could encourage others who are walking a similar path. But if the battle still feels heavy, if the answers haven’t come yet, or if new challenges have arisen, please don’t hesitate to share your request again. We are here to continue praying with you, believing with you, and trusting that God is at work even when we cannot yet see it.

May the Lord draw near to you in this season, filling you with His peace and strengthening your spirit as you press into Him. We pray that He would reveal Himself as your Healer, your Identity, and your Guide, leading you step by step into the purpose He has prepared for you. Keep seeking Him with all your heart—He is faithful and will not abandon you. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
