Disciple of Prayer
My boss has become unreasonable. I was her top sales person up until a couple months ago when the leads became not as good. Things have changed and I’ve said so many prayers and I felt like God said that I am in a transition so wondering if that means I need to look for another job. Please restore my relationship with my boss and I pray for better lead so I can make commission. My boss is threatening to not give me my commission.

We hear your heart in this difficult season at work and we join you in seeking God's will together in Jesus' name. It is discouraging when you have been faithful and fruitful as a top sales person and then the leads change and the relationship with your boss becomes strained. We understand the pressure you feel when your income and your daily peace are affected, and we want to lift this entire situation before the Lord with you.

We believe God cares about our work and how we honor Him in it. Whatever we do we are called to work heartily as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord we will receive the reward of the inheritance, for we serve the Lord Christ, Colossians 3:23-24. We are also called to respect those in authority over us and to do our work with sincerity and goodwill, Ephesians 6:5-7. That does not mean your boss is always right, but it does mean we respond in a way that honors God even when leadership becomes unreasonable. At the same time, God sees when wages are withheld or dealt with dishonestly. A just balance and scales belong to the Lord, Proverbs 16:11, and the Lord warns against holding back what is rightfully earned, Leviticus 19:13, James 5:4. If a commission has been fairly earned, it is right to seek what is just in a calm, documented and honorable way, while still praying for your boss and not returning harshness for harshness, Luke 6:27-28.

You mentioned feeling like God said you are in a transition and wondering if that means looking for another job. We encourage you to test that sense of leading with prayer and the Word, and to ask God for clear wisdom. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him, James 1:5. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight, Proverbs 3:5-6. We have found that God often confirms direction through His Word, through peace that aligns with Scripture, through wise counsel from mature believers, and through open and closed doors. We encourage you to remain faithful where you are planted while you prayerfully explore whether the Lord is opening another opportunity, and to not make a hasty move out of frustration but out of clear leading.

We also noticed your request speaks of prayers to God but does not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to gently share why this matters so much to us. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father, for Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, we will be saved, Romans 10:9. It is because of what Jesus did on the cross for our sins and His resurrection that we can come boldly before God and know He hears us. We encourage you to place your trust fully in Jesus and to come to God in His name.

We join you now in prayer together.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. Lord, You see the change in the workplace, the frustration over leads that are not as good, the strain in the relationship with the boss, and the threat over commission that has been worked for. We ask You to bring Your peace that surpasses understanding and to give wisdom for every next step. Show clearly if this is a season to stay and be steadfast or if You are leading into a new job and a new assignment, and confirm it by Your Word and Your Spirit. We pray You would soften the heart of the boss and restore communication and respect. Help our friend to respond with grace, diligence and integrity that honors You, even under pressure. Lord, we ask You to provide for every need according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:19, and to make a way for what is just regarding the commission to be honored. We pray for better opportunities and for favor, but most of all that You would be glorified in this workplace. We trust that You work all things together for good for those who love You, Romans 8:28, and we ask for strength to trust You in this transition. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray for your boss by name, to keep careful records of your sales and commission agreements, and to seek godly counsel from a pastor or wise believer and also proper workplace guidance if needed, so that you can address the commission issue calmly and truthfully. Keep doing excellent work where you are, and quietly and prayerfully explore other opportunities with wisdom, asking God to open the right door and close the wrong ones. The Lord is your provider, not the leads and not any person, and He is able to sustain you and direct you as you acknowledge Him in all your ways.

We hear how heavy this has been for you. To go from being your boss's top salesperson to feeling the leads and the relationship slip, and now worrying about your commission, would leave anyone feeling unsettled and stretched thin.

That sense you had that God may have you in a transition is worth paying attention to, and it does not have to mean you need to make a sudden move. A transition season is often a time to seek wisdom quietly while still being faithful where you are. It can help to separate two questions: how to steward your current job well right now, and whether God may be opening a different door for the next season.

One practical step that may bring some clarity is to get what you can in writing. If you have an offer letter, handbook, or emails about how leads are assigned and how commission is calculated, keep copies in one place along with notes of recent conversations. That record can help you have a calm, factual conversation if you need to ask for clarification, and it gives a wise counselor or mentor something concrete to look at with you. While you do that, it can also be steadying to talk with one trusted, level-headed person who knows your work, and to quietly take stock of your skills and options without feeling pressured to quit today.

We are praying for you in this.

Father, we lift our friend to You and ask for Your wisdom and provision in this work situation. Give peace in the uncertainty, grace in conversations with his boss, and clear direction for next steps. Provide for his needs and guide his decisions. In Jesus' name, amen.

Thank you for praying. I am a devout Christian and believer in Jesus Christ. I was a missionary and have a deep relationship with Jesus.

Your prayer has been heard and we have carried your burden before the Lord who knows both the trial of your daily labor and the anxiety of your heart concerning what is to come.

You speak as one who has known favor and fruitfulness in your calling, and now finds the ground changed beneath you. This is a portion not unlike that of Job, of whom it is written, In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. When his estate was touched and his comforts were removed, he tore his mantle and fell down upon the ground and worshipped. He did not speak unworthily of his God, and therein was his triumph. Take care, then, that in this season of disappointment you keep right with God, not giving way to unbelieving speeches, but bowing with submission to His will. For by that very submission we are furnished with unerring guidance.

You ask whether the sense of transition you have felt is of the Lord, and whether you should look for another place of labor. The Psalmist says, Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. The Lord guides His people not by hasty impulses alone, but by His counsel in the Word, by principles infused in the heart to avoid what is evil and to do what is right, and by the quiet dealings of His providence. Haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life, and it is never wise to dispute with God or to run before His cloud moves. Seek His counsel daily, ask for wisdom from those who walk uprightly, and weigh with a calm mind whether this trial is a chastening to be endured with patience or a door which He is opening to another field. On earth there is no real glory for us unless we are guided by God's counsel, and He who guided David when he was but a shepherd boy will not fail to guide you now.

Concerning your superior, let us learn from Job who prayed for his friends even when they had spoken harshly of him. And the Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends. So let us do as Job did and make our approach unto the Lord in childlike confidence even when He seems to frown, and let us pray also for those who deal hardly with us. Our longest sorrows have a close, and there is a bottom to the profoundest depths of our misery, for our sorrows shall have an end when God has gotten His end in them. Pray for your boss, that any hardness may be softened, that justice may be done concerning what you have earned, and that you may be kept from all bitterness.

We will pray with you and for you.

O Lord our God, Thou art the God of peace who hast prepared all things necessary for our good, look upon Thy servant in this place of uncertainty. Grant a vivid apprehension of Thyself, that faith may cling though tried. Give patience as Thou gavest unto Job, that no foolish charge may come from these lips. Guide with Thy counsel, make the path plain whether to remain and serve faithfully where Thou hast set Thy servant, or to step through a new door which Thou shalt open. We ask Thee to restore peace where there is strife, to move the heart of one in authority to act justly concerning wages and commission, and to provide that which is needful for daily bread. Turn, we beseech Thee, this captivity into testimony, and let Thy servant see Thy hand both in restraint and in supply. Keep from haste, keep from fear, and keep near to Christ who is our wisdom and our portion. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we ask it, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your request has been heard and I am joining you in prayer for wisdom and provision in this difficult season at work.

It is painful when a job that once brought fruitfulness and favor suddenly becomes a place of tension and uncertainty, especially when your income and your relationship with your boss are both under strain. It is good that you have been turning to prayer and seeking to hear what God is saying about a time of transition.

Scripture shows us that hardship is not always a sign that God has abandoned us, and not every trial comes because we have done something wrong. Often God allows pressure to test and refine us, so that we may be shown to be faithful. Remember Job, who when he lost so much did not rush to accuse God but said, The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord. The enemy would like such losses to push us toward bitter words or blasphemy, but Job restrained his lips and even corrected his wife when she urged him to speak against God. We are called to bear every stroke thankfully, trusting that God sees and will use it for our good and His glory.

In the same way, when those in authority over us act unreasonably, we are not to repay with reviling or accusation, but to endure with patience as we would endure pain in our own body, while still acting honestly and seeking what is right. This does not mean you should accept being cheated. If your commission has been earned, it is right to seek what is just, with a respectful and truthful spirit, and to keep a clear record of what is owed.

I will pray for you that God will give you clear direction about whether to remain or to seek another position, that He will soften and restore communication between you and your boss, and that He will provide for your needs. I pray also that whatever leads or opportunities come, you will continue to work with integrity and that your heart will remain guarded from bitterness.

Let us pray. Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ I lift up this dear one to You. You see the change in this workplace, the discouragement over poor leads, the threat over unpaid commission, and the uncertainty about the future. Grant wisdom generously to know the next step, whether to stay or to move, and make the path clear. Work in the heart of this boss, bring peace where there is tension, and restore a respectful working relationship. Provide justly for what has been earned and open doors for honest provision in the days ahead. Keep this heart from complaining against You, and help it to trust You in this trial and to be found faithful. Lead through this transition for Your glory and for good. Amen.
