We hear your cry for direction and healing, and we come alongside you in prayer, seeking the Lord’s wisdom and peace in this season of transition. You are right to bring your heart before the Father, for He alone knows the paths we should walk and the relationships that align with His perfect will. The pain of a marriage that was not of God is real, and we grieve with you over the heartache it has caused. Scripture reminds us in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." This is a time to surrender fully to His leading, even as you navigate the emotions of letting go and seeking clarity for the future.
The Lord has been faithful to reveal the truth about your marriage, and we rejoice that you are taking steps to honor Him by pursuing divorce. This is not an easy decision, but it is a necessary one when a union does not reflect God’s design for marriage, a covenant between one man and one woman, rooted in love, mutual submission, and holiness (Ephesians 5:22-33). We pray that the legal process moves forward with peace and that you are surrounded by godly counsel to support you.
Now, we must address the new feelings you describe for the man who has recently come into your life. While it is natural to seek companionship and to desire a godly spouse, we urge you to exercise extreme caution. Scripture warns us in 2 Corinthians 6:14, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" The fact that this man is incarcerated raises serious concerns. Though God can redeem any situation, we must not ignore the practical and spiritual realities at play. A relationship with someone who is not free, physically or spiritually, can lead to further confusion, emotional entanglement, and even compromise. We must ask: Is this man a believer in Jesus Christ? Does he exhibit the fruit of repentance and transformation? Is he actively pursuing righteousness, or are you placing your hope in the potential of who he might become?
The qualities you describe, kindness, love, compassion, are beautiful, but they must be rooted in Christ to endure the tests of life. We encourage you to step back and seek the Lord’s wisdom before allowing your heart to become further entangled. James 1:5 says, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him." Ask the Lord to reveal this man’s true character, his relationship with Christ, and whether this connection is from Him or simply a distraction from His best for you.
We also want to gently rebuke the pattern of seeking relationships that do not align with God’s timing or will. You mentioned that your previous marriage was not a blessing from God, yet you are now drawn to another man who is not in a position to pursue a godly marriage. This could indicate a deeper struggle with trusting God’s timing or seeking fulfillment outside of Him. Psalm 37:4 reminds us, "Also delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart." When we delight in Him first, He aligns our desires with His will. Are you truly delighting in the Lord, or are you seeking a relationship to fill a void?
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our sister who is seeking Your will in this season of her life. Lord, we thank You for Your faithfulness in revealing the truth about her marriage and for giving her the courage to walk away from what was not of You. We ask that You would heal her heart from the pain and disappointment she has experienced. Comfort her with Your presence and remind her that You are close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18).
Father, we ask for Your wisdom and clarity as she navigates her feelings for this new man in her life. Lord, we pray that You would reveal the truth about this connection. If this man is not the one You have for her, we ask that You would remove any confusion and close the door firmly. If he is a man who loves You and is pursuing righteousness, we ask that You would make Your will unmistakably clear. Protect her heart from being led astray by emotions or circumstances that do not align with Your Word.
Lord, we also ask that You would turn this man’s case over for Your glory. If it is Your will for him to be freed, we pray that You would move mightily on his behalf. But more importantly, we pray that he would come to know You as his Lord and Savior if he does not already. Soften his heart, convict him of sin, and draw him into a relationship with You. If he is already a believer, we pray that You would continue to grow him in faith and prepare him for the role You have for him, whether that includes our sister or not.
Father, we ask that You would guard her heart from any relationship that does not honor You. Help her to trust in Your timing and to find her fulfillment in You alone. Teach her to delight in You, so that her desires align with Your will. Surround her with godly friends and mentors who can speak truth into her life and encourage her in her walk with You.
Lord, we rebuke any spirit of confusion, fear, or impatience that may be trying to influence her decisions. We declare that she is a daughter of the Most High God, and she will not be led astray by her emotions or the circumstances around her. We speak peace over her mind and clarity over her heart. May she hear Your voice above all others and follow You wholeheartedly.
We pray all these things in the precious name of Jesus, the name above every name, the only name by which we can be saved. We thank You, Lord, for Your love, Your grace, and Your faithfulness. May Your will be done in our sister’s life, and may she experience the fullness of Your peace and joy as she trusts in You. Amen.
In the days ahead, we encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word and spend time in prayer, seeking His face above all else. Consider fasting from this new relationship until you have absolute clarity from the Lord. Surround yourself with a community of believers who can hold you accountable and speak truth into your life. Remember, the enemy often uses loneliness and emotional vulnerability to lead us astray, but God’s plans for you are good, plans for hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).
If this man is not the one God has for you, trust that He has someone far better in store. If he is, trust that God will make it unmistakably clear in His timing. Until then, focus on deepening your relationship with Christ. He is the only one who can truly satisfy the longings of your heart.
