Our Father in Heaven, we first pause and thank You "so loving the world You gave Your Only-begotten Son!, Jn 3:16. Thank You "Jesus showed us The Father -- Your Nature," Jn 14:9. May we honor and know You in every Name You have revealed about Yourself in The Scriptures -- Elohim, Gen 1:1; The Name, Gen 4:26, El Elyon, God Most High, Gen 14:18, Adonai, Lord, Master, Gen 15:2; El Roi, The God Who Sees, Gen 16:13; El Shaddai, God Almighty, Gen 17:1; El Olam, The Everlasting God, Gen 21:33; Yahweh, The LORD, Yireh, Our Provider, Gen 22:18; Healer, Peace, Shepherd, Righteousness, Presence, Sanctification, Our Rock, Fortress, Strong Tower, Etc... You desire mercy, not sacrifice, Hos 6:6. Mostly the POWER to live a Holy Life overflowing with LOVE for God and others, singing and making melody from "singing seminaries" and "the walking practice of evangelism" is the best fruit and sign of the Kingdom, Heb 12:4. ***We also want to ask for Jesus' Return, so we may experience a whole other realm (I refer to it as 8.0 based upon the 7 covenants God revealed in Redemptive History (whether they all dealt with us individually or not is irrelevant, they are still part of the history of redemption when humans had workings and dealings with God expressing His thoughts toward humans, the New Covenant -- "the already "is the 7th, where we are redeemed, have peace with God, are indwelt with the Holy Spirit, are part of "New Creation" though only a "foretaste of the good things to come." The change our bodies will incur and all creation eagerly awaits is our hope in Romans 8 and latter Revelation and is the 8th I'm calling 8.0 where ALL of these things will be realized in a greater capacity and duration and God's Kingdom will have full expression once it's fully come on earth as it is heaven again -- the "not yet," -- "May Your Kingdom Come and Your Will be Done on Earth as it is in Heaven," Matt 6:10.

May Your Will Be Done on Earth as it is in Heaven -- Keeping in mind the Kingdom Coming, as described above, in differing degrees, the already and the not yet, we ask here in the already that we may know, submit to and do Your will for our lives individually and collectively as the church, as Jesus did during His time on earth, Phil 2:9-9, our whole lives be increasingly lived to please You, knowing the Trinity, living in Your presence moment by moment, and making You known as a by product, rejoicing in trials and weakness, as well as power demonstrations when it gives You glory, Mt 28:19-20, Rom 1:5, Rom 15:18. May we abide in Christ, with freedom to pray, and power to bear fruit, thereby making disciples, and thus proving we are disciples, John 15:7-8, might bear some fruit wherever we go, Rom 1:13, 1 Cor 9:2, 2 Cor 3:2-3, specifically by going, preaching faith in Jesus suffering and dying for our sins, repentance, baptism, forgiveness of sins and obedience to all that He commanded, being witnesses to these facts under His authority, commission by this union with Jesus through The Holy Spirit, Mark 16:15-16, Luke 24:46-48, Matt 28:19-20, John 20:21, Acts 1:8. May Your will be done on earth as You rule over the church and nations, Ps 22:28, and arrive in fulness at the Return of Christ.

Give us Each Day our Daily Bread: Spiritual -- we can't live by bread alone but every Word of God, Deut 8:3, Matt 4:4, Lk 4:4. Meet our spiritual, emotional, social, physical and financial needs mightily, Phil 4:19, so we can love You with all our heart, soul, mind, will, emotions, physical strength and finances, Mk 12:30, and our neighbors, Mk 12:31, even the lost, Matt 9:36, and even enemies, Matt 5:44, as ourselves -- and see others as Christ, who looked beyond his own interests, to the interests of others, considering others as more important than we, Phil 2:1-5.

Forgive Our Debts as We Forgive Our Debtors... We confess we've sinned against You, Rom 3:23, 1 Jn 1:8, 1 Jn 1:10 (name specific sins and areas of ongoing struggles), and others, receive forgiveness, Lk 1:77, & pray FOR those who sin against us, (by name and specific offenses), asking they'd repent and be saved, Job 42:7-16, entrusting their souls to a faithful creator and recognizing it is He who alone who is in fact the one appointed both to save and to judge, Romans 12:9, 1 Pet 4:19.

Lead us Not into Temptation, but Deliver us from evil... Keep us from temptation and evil, Luke 11:4, sin, 2 Cor 13:7, lies, evil, fear, Zeph 3:13, evil people, imposters, deception, 2 Tim 3:13, false believers, 2 Cor 11:16, 2 Tim 3:5, Tit 1:16, temptation and the evil one, Mat 6:13, Jn 17:15. Give us angelic protection, Ps 91:10-11, Heb 1:14.

For It's Your Kingdom, (Everlasting Kingdom which Cannot Be Destroyed, Dan 7:18), It's Your Power, (All Power in Heaven and Earth has been Given to Me, Matt 28:18), and Your Glory, Forever... (Not unto us O Lord, but unto Your Name Be Glory, Ps 115:1)... We Thank You for hearing, Mk 11:24, Amen, in Jesus' Name, in Him All The Promises of God are Yes and Amen, 2 Cor 1:20.

We come before the throne of grace with hearts full of reverence and awe, lifting up this beautiful and expansive prayer that so richly aligns with the Lord’s Prayer as taught by our Savior. It is a profound reminder of the order and priorities we are called to embrace in our walk with God, first seeking His honor, His Kingdom, and His will above all else. We rejoice in the truth that our Father in heaven invites us into intimate communion with Him, not as distant subjects, but as beloved children, heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17). What a privilege it is to approach Him boldly, yet humbly, knowing that through Jesus’ shed blood, we have been granted access to the very heart of the Father.

We wholeheartedly affirm the hallowing of God’s Name in every aspect of our lives. His Name is not merely a label but a revelation of His character, gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness (Exodus 34:6-7). May His Name be revered in our thoughts, words, and deeds, and may our lives reflect the holiness and majesty of the One we serve. Let us never take His Name in vain, nor allow the world to mock it through our ungodly conduct (Romans 2:24). Instead, may our lives be living epistles, known and read by all, that point others to the glory of God (2 Corinthians 3:2-3).

Your prayer for the coming of God’s Kingdom resonates deeply with our spirits. The Kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power (1 Corinthians 4:20), and we long to see its manifestation in our lives through the fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). We also earnestly desire the gifts of the Spirit to operate in and through us, not for our own glory, but for the edification of the Body of Christ and the advancement of the Gospel (1 Corinthians 12:7). Let us be vessels of healing, prophecy, wisdom, and miracles, demonstrating the reality of God’s Kingdom to a lost and broken world. And above all, we cry out, "Come, Lord Jesus!" (Revelation 22:20), for we long to see His Kingdom fully established on earth as it is in heaven.

We stand in agreement with the plea for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. This is not a passive wish but an active surrender of our lives to the purposes of God. Jesus Himself modeled this surrender in the Garden of Gethsemane, praying, "Not my will, but yours be done" (Luke 22:42). May we, too, submit every area of our lives, our dreams, our plans, our relationships, our finances, to the perfect will of the Father. Let us abide in Christ, bearing much fruit (John 15:5), and making disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19). May our lives be a testament to the transformative power of the Gospel, and may we walk in obedience to all that Christ has commanded us.

We lift up the request for daily bread, both physical and spiritual. Our Father knows our needs before we even ask (Matthew 6:8), and He delights in providing for His children. But let us never forget that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Deuteronomy 8:3). May we hunger and thirst for righteousness (Matthew 5:6), feasting on the Word of God and allowing it to nourish our souls. And as we receive provision from the Lord, may we be generous in sharing with others, reflecting the heart of our compassionate Father (2 Corinthians 9:8).

The plea for forgiveness and the commitment to forgive others is a critical aspect of our walk with God. We confess that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), and we acknowledge our need for His mercy and grace. But forgiveness is not a one-time event, it is a lifestyle. Jesus taught us to pray, "Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors" (Matthew 6:12), and He made it clear that if we do not forgive others, our Father will not forgive us (Matthew 6:15). This is a sobering truth, and we must take it seriously. Let us examine our hearts and release any bitterness, resentment, or unforgiveness that may be hindering our relationship with God and others. May we extend the same grace to others that we have received from the Lord, praying for their repentance and salvation (Job 42:10).

We join in the cry for deliverance from temptation and evil. The enemy prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8), and we must be vigilant in our resistance. But we do not fight alone, God has given us His Word, His Spirit, and the armor of God to stand firm against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:10-18). Let us put on the full armor of God daily, that we may be able to stand in the evil day. And let us remember that no temptation has overtaken us except what is common to man, and God is faithful, He will not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear, but will provide a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13). May we also claim the promise of angelic protection, knowing that God has given His angels charge over us to keep us in all our ways (Psalm 91:11).

Finally, we declare with boldness that the Kingdom, the power, and the glory belong to God forever. It is not unto us, O Lord, but unto Your Name be the glory (Psalm 115:1). We thank You, Father, for hearing our prayers and for the assurance that in Christ, all Your promises are "Yes" and "Amen" (2 Corinthians 1:20). We pray all these things in the mighty Name of Jesus, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). May Your will be done in our lives, in the church, and in the nations, to the praise of Your glorious Name. Amen.

You have set forth a most earnest expansion of that pattern of prayer which our Lord gave, and I rejoice to see a soul so reverently handling the sacred words. Yet let us take heed, for though this model is divinely perfect, the mere multiplication of phrases, however scriptural, avails nothing if the heart be not truly drawn near to the throne of grace. The publican’s cry, “God be merciful to me a sinner,” carried more weight than the Pharisee’s long oration, because it was born of a broken and contrite spirit.

Consider the first petitions: “Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done.” These are no trifling requests. Your own meditation rightly calls you to honor every revealed name of God. But how shall His name be hallowed by your lips if your life profanes it? You are God’s witness in the earth, and the world will cross-examine you. When temptation sets carnal joys before you, will they find you loving God indeed? When losses pinch you, will you murmur against His providence? To hallow His name is to bear testimony that He is good, even when the fig tree does not blossom. It is to trust His will when it runs contrary to your own. And as for His will, ah, there is a depth here. From the tiniest creature to the archangel, God’s will is done. In catastrophes, in crimes, even in the free acts of men, the great First Cause works all things after the counsel of His own will. Yet there is a will of command which you must obey, and a will of decree which you must humbly bow before. Boast not of tomorrow; say always, “If the Lord will.” The merchant who says, “I will go, I will buy, I will get gain,” speaks folly. So, my friend, bring every design into captivity to that sure word: “Your will be done.”

You plead for daily bread. Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits! But do you perceive how many of those benefits come disguised? The Psalmist spoke of benefits we know, but ten times as many we know not. The daily bread of trouble, of disappointment, of a thorn in the flesh, these, too, are provisions from the Father’s table. And what of spiritual bread? You cannot live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from God’s mouth. Have you been sitting daily at the King’s table as a beggar, receiving the broken bread of His promises? Or have you been a gentleman commoner, partaking of His goodness yet grumbling? There is a sin that easily besets us in times of abundance, to forget the Giver and fix our eyes on the gift. Let your request for daily bread humble you as a pensioner on divine bounty, not as one who has a right to anything.

Then comes that searching clause: “Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” Here is a fiery test of grace. You pray for the forgiveness of your ten thousand talents while you clutch your brother’s throat over a hundred pence. You ask to be pardoned, yet you nurse bitterness against another. Ah, listen: the grace that truly forgives is the grace that forgets not only the injury but the very memory of the injury, and loves the offender as Christ loved us. You cannot ascend the ladder of prayer with the weight of an unforgiving spirit about your neck. If you would have your debts cancelled in the court of heaven, you must cancel those your fellow has incurred on earth. Is there any name you have omitted when you say, “as we forgive”? Search your heart. And beyond forgiveness, pray for those who have despitefully used you, that they may be brought to the same fountain of mercy where you have washed. Hagar, fleeing from her mistress, was met by the Angel of the Lord with the question, “Where have you come from? and where will you go?” So the Lord meets the offender and the offended. You who have been wronged, will you, like the God of Abraham, seek the wanderer and ask him whither he is going? That is a sweeter revenge than the world dreams of.

“Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” This is the cry of one who knows his own weakness. Remember, you are a brand plucked from the fire. It took as much omnipotence to snatch you from the burning as to create a world. And if God has plucked you from the fire, it was not to let you fall back into the flame. He will not play fast and loose with souls purchased by blood. Yet the way of preservation is a daily walk of dependence. You cannot stand for a moment in your own strength. The holiest of God’s jewels, though set in the crown of His redemption, would soon be lost but for the continual care of the Jeweler. Cry mightily, then, for angelic protection, for the girding of the Spirit, that you may not be decoyed from your love to God. The lion roars, but the Shepherd’s crook is stronger than the lion’s jaw. Trust, yet watch. Pray, yet fight. For the evil one is subtle, and the world’s allurements are like the smooth stones of the brook, fitted to sink deep into the forehead of unwatchful professors.

And all this hinges upon the truth that the kingdom, the power, and the glory belong to God forever. Your prayer begins with the Fatherhood of God in heaven and circles back to His sovereign majesty. It is well. But let me put the question: Are you truly His child? Is there a work of grace in your heart that makes you willing to have God as your King? Many say the prayer, but few bend the knee of the soul. Salvation is of God’s will. You may think to sneak quietly into heaven without bearing witness for Christ, but that will not be. Either you are God’s witness, or you are a false pretender. Examine yourself. Has God wrought in you a loathing of sin, a clinging to Christ alone, a hunger for righteousness? That is a better sign than all the fluency of extended petition.

Go, then, from here, and pray this pattern prayer with the understanding and the affections. But do not rest in the prayer itself. Let it be the breathing of a life hid with Christ in God. When you cry, “Abba, Father,” let it be with the simple trust of a little child, not with a multiplicity of words that think to be heard for their much speaking. And may the Lord make you one of those jewels that will shine in His crown with a luster all His own, a brand plucked from the fire, yet destined for the throne. This is my earnest desire for you, and for all who name the name of Christ.

You have set forth many words, but take care that your heart be not puffed up by them. The kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power, and the chief proof of it is a holy life. Have you not heard that you are to make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts? For when you lengthen prayers with fine phrases, yet neglect the weightier matters, feeding the hungry, caring for the orphan, guarding the tongue from reviling, your own words become a snare. Those who name God with their lips must also honor Him with their deeds, else His name is blasphemed among the heathen.

God often delays His answer to draw you nearer to Himself. Do you think that by piling up petitions you compel His hand? Not so; He permits trials and withholds consolation that you may flee to Him as a child to a father’s bosom. When you ask for daily bread, remember that your true bread is to do His will, not to indulge the belly. Your prayer for deliverance from temptation is heard, but know this: no trial has overtaken you except what is common to man. God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape. Do not then fear the evil one overmuch, but cling to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling.

As for forgiveness, blessed indeed are they whose iniquities are forgiven! Yet if you do not forgive others from the heart, you shut the door of mercy against yourself. Mourn your sins, and you shall be comforted, not with a passing ease, but with that gladness which comes from being reconciled to God. For where there is true blessedness, all shame is removed. Strive therefore not for many words, but for a contrite spirit. Let your petitions be brief and full of faith, and by humility and a life of love make your calling sure.

You have set your heart on the right order. When Jesus gave his disciples this prayer, he was not giving a charm to be repeated without thought. He was giving a pattern, and the pattern begins where our hearts so often resist beginning: with the Father's name being hallowed, his kingdom coming, and his will being done before our own wants are brought forward. That is a hard and good reordering. Your emphasis on seeking the Father's honor first is exactly right.

As you pray through it, remember that the kingdom you are asking to come is not mainly observed in outward display. The kingdom of God is righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. So when you ask for his kingdom to come into your life and through you, ask for those fruits. Ask that your love for God and for his people would be real, because the Spirit's presence is known by witness to Jesus and by love for the brothers and sisters. A prayer life that becomes merely thorough can grow cold. A prayer life that leaves you loving Christ more and loving his people more is the kind the Spirit is producing.

Then ask for daily bread with confidence. You are not an outsider trying to get an appointment. Through Jesus you have been brought near as a child, and your Father knows what you need. Ask for provision for body and soul, but let the soul's hunger for his word be first, because we do not live by bread alone.

The part about forgiveness is where this prayer searches us. Ask for your own debts to be forgiven, and do not rush past the demand that you forgive those who owe you. That is not a bargain; it is the shape of a heart that has actually received mercy. As you name your own sins before him, do it honestly, not defensively. And as you name those who have sinned against you, pray for them, entrust them to the one who judges justly, and release the bitterness. Otherwise the prayer becomes words.

Finally, when you pray, "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil," you are not praying as a victim. You have been delivered from the domain of darkness and brought into the kingdom of the beloved Son. The power of Jesus' name is real against the forces of darkness. So pray for protection with confidence, but also pray for holiness, because the deliverance you most need is not only from bad circumstances but from the love of sin. Ask the Spirit to make you holy in your manner of living, for the one who called you is holy.

Your careful gathering of Scripture can serve you well if it drives you to pray with hunger and dependence rather than to perform a long exercise. You need the Holy Spirit's help even to pray this. Ask for that help. The power is not in saying everything. The power is in the resurrected Christ who taught us to pray and who ever lives to intercede for us.

I am asking the Lord with you that his name would be honored in your life, his kingdom would come with righteousness and peace and joy in your home and heart, his will would be done in your decisions, and that you would be kept from the evil one. Keep praying in Jesus' name.
