Dear God please help me to be able to keep my job and my wife and our home and to be able to help our adult kid's. Please forgive me for my ### and my selfish ###. Please soften the hearts of my bosses and my coworkers and my customers and especially my wife. Please help me get my work done today correctly and on time. I'm sorry that I keep asking you to help me but I am afraid of asking anyone else. Please let me know that you are there and that you can help me and that you forgive me. Please forgive me when I get back home and I lay on my bed and I have another Jim beam and Sprite and another cold beer. Why am I an ###. Please help me change and to be a better person and a better husband and a better employee. I'm sorry God please help me

We hear your cry for help, and we come before the throne of grace with you, lifting up your burdens to the Lord. Your honesty and humility are evident, and we know that God draws near to those who come to Him with a broken and contrite heart. The name of Jesus Christ is central to your request, and it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved, and it is in His name that we pray and seek transformation.

First, we want to acknowledge your desire for forgiveness and change. Scripture tells us in 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." You have taken the first step by confessing your struggles, and we believe that God is already at work in your heart. The fact that you are seeking help and longing to be a better husband, father, and employee is a testament to the Holy Spirit’s conviction in your life.

We must address the issue of alcohol in your life. While drinking in moderation may not be sinful in itself, your words suggest that it has become a stumbling block for you, a way to cope with fear, stress, and shame. Proverbs 20:1 warns, "Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise." More importantly, when we turn to substances to numb our pain or escape our struggles, we are not relying on God as our strength and comfort. We rebuke the spirit of addiction and bondage in your life in the name of Jesus. You do not have to be defined by this struggle, for 2 Corinthians 5:17 declares, "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new."

Your fear of losing your job, your home, and your family is real, but we encourage you to place your trust in the Lord rather than in your own efforts or the goodwill of others. Psalm 56:3 says, "When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you." We pray that God will give you peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding your heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). You do not have to carry this burden alone, God is with you, and He invites you to cast all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).

We also lift up your marriage. The Bible calls husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25). This is a high calling, but it is not one you have to fulfill in your own strength. We pray that God will soften your wife’s heart toward you, just as you have asked, and that He will heal any wounds or misunderstandings between you. We encourage you to be open with her about your struggles, not as an excuse, but as a step toward accountability and healing. Proverbs 24:3-4 says, "Through wisdom a house is built; by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all rare and beautiful treasure." Seek God’s wisdom together as a couple, and let Him rebuild what has been broken.

For your adult children, we pray that God will provide for their needs and draw them closer to Him. Even when we feel helpless as parents, we can trust that God is at work in their lives. Proverbs 22:6 reminds us, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." Even if they have strayed, God’s love and grace are greater than their struggles.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this brother who is crying out for Your help. Lord, we thank You that he has come to You, for You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We ask that You forgive him for his sins, known and unknown, and cleanse him from all unrighteousness. Wash him whiter than snow, Lord, and renew a right spirit within him (Psalm 51:7, 10).

Father, we rebuke the spirit of addiction and bondage in his life. We declare that he is not a slave to alcohol or fear, but a child of God, set free by the blood of Jesus. Break every chain, Lord, and fill him with Your Holy Spirit. Help him to rely on You for strength, comfort, and wisdom in every area of his life.

We pray for his job, Lord. Soften the hearts of his bosses, coworkers, and customers. Give him favor in their eyes and the ability to complete his work with excellence and integrity. Provide for all his financial needs, and protect his home and family. Let him experience Your provision in tangible ways so that he may know You are his Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides.

For his marriage, Lord, we ask that You restore love, trust, and communication between him and his wife. Help them to seek You together and to build their home on the foundation of Your Word. Give them both the grace to forgive and the humility to serve one another.

For his adult children, we pray that You would draw them close to You. Open their eyes to Your truth and surround them with godly influences. Provide for their needs and protect them from harm.

Lord, we ask that You give him a tangible sense of Your presence today. Let him know that You are with him, that You hear his prayers, and that You are working all things together for his good (Romans 8:28). Help him to walk in the newness of life that You have given him through Christ Jesus.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the name by which we are saved and set free. Amen.

Brother, we want to encourage you to take practical steps toward freedom and healing. Consider reaching out to a pastor, a Christian counselor, or a trusted friend who can walk alongside you in this journey. Accountability is a powerful tool in overcoming addiction and fear. James 5:16 says, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective."

You are not alone in this battle. God has not abandoned you, and neither have we. Keep crying out to Him, keep seeking His face, and keep pressing forward. Philippians 1:6 assures us, "Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." God is faithful, and He will finish what He has started in you.

We hear the ache in your words, the fear of losing your job, your wife, your home, and the deep frustration when you reach for that drink at the end of the day. Thank you for being this honest. God isn’t put off by your asking again; he draws close to a heart that’s broken and crying out.

You mentioned you’re afraid to ask anyone else for help, and we understand that shame can make us want to hide. But real change often starts when we let one safe person in. A pastor, a mature brother in the faith, or a Christ-centered recovery group can be a place to speak what’s really going on without judgment. That’s not a sign of weakness, it’s how the load gets lighter. Would you consider making that one call or showing up at a meeting this week? You don’t have to wrestle this alone.

We’re also holding up the very things you named. We’re asking the Lord to steady your mind and hands at work so you can get your tasks done correctly and on time. We’re praying for your wife’s heart, not that she’d ignore what’s hard, but that the walls between you would soften enough for honesty and grace to enter. And we’re bringing your adult kids before him too, trusting that he sees their needs and carries the weight you can’t.

Lord, you know how worn out this man feels. Meet him in the quiet of this day. Give him the courage to tell one person the truth. Send practical support, steady his work, and begin to mend what feels broken. Replace the shame with the deep, quiet certainty that in Jesus, every sin is truly forgiven and every morning offers a fresh start.
