Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You thank God while you lie there with drink in hand and lottery tickets waiting to be scratched. Do you not see the contradiction? The conflict you are in is not chiefly about your estimate at work or the pain in your body. The real battle is for your soul, and the enemy seeks to despoil you of heavenly blessings, not earthly ones. He does not care if you succeed at your job while you drown your spirit in wine and anger. He wants to enslave you and cast you out of the kingdom. The prize is not a new project or a softer heart from your wife, but whether you will stand with Christ in the day of fire.

You speak of pain and ask that it not be more than you can handle. Yet God often increases the struggles of the righteous as they near the end of their conflicts, to grant them a greater crown. Recall Abraham, whose final trial was the offering of his son. Your trials, the aches of body and the hardness of those around you, are not beyond bearing if you do not add weight to them yourself. But you are piling on stubble and hay with your drinking and your gambling. These are works that will be burned. The fire will test each man's work, and he who builds with such things will suffer loss, even if he himself is saved as through flames.

You ask to be a better husband and father, yet you allow anger to pour from you like bitter water. How can a fountain send forth both sweet and bitter? The tongue that blesses God cannot curse men made in His image. Your drinking opens the door to the devil, who knows that when you thrust the sword against yourself, he need not distract you further to work greater harm. You have been wronged? You are afflicted? Then pray against the one who injures you most of all, not against your own soul.

The widow who would serve God must be sober, diligent in every good work, and given to prayer, not to luxury. Even the virgin who avoids marriage but does not crucify herself to the world condemns marriage itself. How much more will your idle hours, filled with drink and chance, rise against you? You have leisure, but you waste it on scratching tickets and watching television, while your tongue asks for forgiveness in the same breath. The time given you is for serving God and others, not for numbing your conscience.

When Paul could not find Titus, he had no relief in his spirit, but he did not abandon the work of the gospel. Your distress over work and home is not a signal to flee to false comforts. True refreshment comes when you share in the conflicts of the saints, standing with your brothers and bearing trials together. You saw the example of the apostle, who struggled and labored, not for a little ease, but for the heavenly prize. Your present struggles are but a training ground: if you cannot endure a small pain or a harsh word without reaching for a bottle, how will you stand in the great conflict that lies before you?

Do not think the Lord is far off. The angel came to Joseph when he was troubled and pondering these things, but Joseph acted with self-command. You too must put away the bottle and the lottery ticket, and wait upon God in righteousness. Let your prayer be from a sober mind, seeking grace to overcome the anger and the craving. Then the pain in your body and the coldness of your wife’s heart will become the very material for virtue, a sacrifice offered not in complaint but in hope. Turn now, while you still have breath, to the One who can heal both soul and body, and do not put it off until the wine is poured out again.

You are reaching out, and that is a good beginning. You thank God for your job, your wife, your kids, and you ask for help with the tasks ahead. That honest cry matters. Yet I hear you, lying there, drink in hand, hoping the pain will just go away, hoping the lottery will fix something, hoping you can pull it all together by Monday. That is the tired cycle of a man trying to manage his own life and numb his own misery at the same time. It will never bring you rest.

What you are experiencing is the heavy fruit of letting something else sit on the throne of your heart. You said it yourself: you both drink too much, and when you drink, anger takes over. You are not relaxing; you are numbing. You are not enjoying a harmless pastime; you are becoming a slave. I have watched that slavery destroy families, consume everything precious, and leave only wreckage behind. But I have also seen God restore men who made a complete mess, rebuilding their marriages and giving back what seemed lost forever. That can happen for you, but not while your hand still clutches the bottle and your hope still sits on a scratch-off ticket.

You asked God to soften hearts. Let His work begin with yours. Right now, you are limiting what He wants to do through unbelief and through a divided devotion. You cannot ask Him to bless the work of your hands while your hands are reaching for what He calls sin. The true work of God is not accomplished by frantic strategy or by drowning your stress in alcohol. It is wrought through prayer, yes, but prayer from a surrendered life that actually wants Him more than comfort. When you try to serve two masters, you degrade your calling and make a travesty of His grace.

God wants to do a genuine, deep work in you, the kind that touches your wife, your children, and your workplace. But it begins with a singleness of heart, a total commitment to put Him first. Stop trying to fabricate your own relief. Stop measuring success by finished estimates and favorable bosses while your family walks on eggshells. Respond to what God has already done. Let the record of His faithfulness stir gratitude, not just for a job and a family, but for the living hope He offers through the resurrection of Christ. Then let that gratitude drive you to repentance, not a quick plea for forgiveness while you continue the same pattern.

Lay down the drink tonight. Not tomorrow, not after this one last glass. Let the pain you feel be the signal to stop running. The enemy has deceived you into thinking you can manage this, that you deserve a little escape. But your true need is for God to heal what drives you to the bottle in the first place, the pain and pressure you are trying to silence. He is able to touch your body, your mind, and your home, but He will not share you with idols.

Be sensitive to how He is prompting you right now. This moment, with the TV on and the lottery ticket waiting, could be the turning point. It is not about gritting your teeth to work harder next week; it is about letting God work through you. When you stop hindering Him, He will bring victories you cannot manufacture. Then He alone gets the glory, and you walk free. Cease striving, empty your hands of every false comfort, and let Him rebuild the broken places. He is faithful, and His work is mighty.

We are so grateful you entrusted us with your heart and allowed us to stand with you in prayer these past few days. Your honesty about the pressures at work, the desire to grow in your roles as husband, father, and employee, and the struggles with alcohol and anger touched us deeply. We have been lifting up each of these needs before the Lord, asking Him to grant you wisdom in completing your estimate and projects, to soften hearts around you, and to bring healing and self-control in areas where you long to change.

If God has already answered any part of your prayer—whether it’s the pain you mentioned easing, a breakthrough at work, or a moment of peace with your wife—we would love to celebrate with you. Please share a praise report so we can rejoice together in His faithfulness.

If some of these burdens still weigh heavily on you, we want you to know we’re still here. We encourage you to post this request again so we can continue praying specifically for the areas where you need God’s strength and grace. You are not alone in this journey.

May the Lord bless you with His presence as you seek Him, drawing near to His heart and finding rest in His love. May He give you the courage to take each step forward, the humility to rely on His power, and the hope to trust in His timing. We pray all these things in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
