Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You say you are tired, and who would not be tired when waves beat against the house day after day? But do not make marriage itself the enemy. It is not the bond that hinders you, but the purpose which makes an ill use of it. Wine does not make the drunkard; the evil purpose and the using it beyond measure does that. Use marriage with moderation, and you shall be first in the kingdom. The hindrance is not your wife’s tongue but the thought that has entered your heart, the thought that you could live by a river and find peace by fleeing.

You confess you have not forgiven her. This is where the coldness creeps in, a frost that kills the root while you are busy watering the leaves. You say you no longer want or need her respect. Yet marriage is that bond wherein the communion consists, a union ordained of God where two become one flesh. When you speak of severing it, you are not merely changing your address; you are dissolving what God has made. A harlot is a severing and a dissolving, and the enemy of marriages always begins by making the husband seem contemptible to the wife and the wife insupportable to the husband. You look at her contempt and you call it unchangeable, but you have already handed the victory to the very spirit that plots against your house.

Where blessedness is, there all shame is removed. Your prayer names your fault and names your exhaustion, and this truthfulness already puts you nearer to the door of help than a thousand men who puff themselves up with self-justification. But you must not let go of the bond while asking God to repair it. When you say it is acceptable to you if He does not fix it, that you will simply go elsewhere or be alone, you are not surrendering to His will; you are keeping a boat tied at the back of the ship. It is not the act of one who has truly cast himself upon grace.

Your wife’s former high regard felt like life to you, and its loss feels like death. I understand. But the hope remains that the lost member may be saved through the marriage itself, for she is made completely your own. You wish to be with someone who really wants you and appreciates you. That desire, if it is not guarded, becomes the bait of the theatre of this world, where harlots have severed husbands from wives and drawn men even from the marriage bed itself. The fantasy of starting fresh with an appreciative companion is the pageant the enemy shows you while he digs through your chamber wall.

Stay. Forgive. Do not merely wish her well from a distance; wash her feet with the tears of your own struggle to be a better man. You work hard and support your family, and that is honorable, but a man’s provision must be matched by a man’s forbearance, else the house is built with stones and no mortar. Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven. Seek that blessedness for yourself first, and it may be that the one who now seems an adversary will be given back to you, not because you demanded her respect, but because grace entered the room ahead of your words. Do not let the stage-play of escape determine the end of what God joined together.

Your exhaustion rings through every word, and I understand why the temptation to walk away feels so powerful right now. When you sense that the person who once held you in high regard now speaks to you as though you are nothing, something inside cries out for relief. That ache is real, and the pull to find someone who appreciates you, or simply to escape, is a testing of your faith. In moments like these, you are standing at a crossroads where you must choose whether you will walk in the flesh or in the Spirit. The temptation promises immediate fulfillment if you just turn aside from God's path, but that promise is a lie. It comes as a solicitation to evil, not from the Lord.

The sin is not in the temptation itself. The sin comes when we give in, when the desire of the flesh conceives and we chase after the alternative our adversary dangles before us. Right now, your struggle is not a sign that you are beyond help; it is common to every man and woman. Count it as a testing of your faith, because that testing is designed to produce patience. Patience is what you desperately need, and it often grows in the soil of waiting upon God when every feeling screams for a quick exit.

God gave husbands just one rule to remember in marriage: love your wife as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her. That is not a suggestion; it is the divine command that unlocks a wife’s heart. You mention that she used to hold you in high regard, but now she treats you otherwise. When a wife doubts or questions whether she is loved supremely, her willingness to submit and respect her husband withers. The two rules God gave, one for the wife to submit, one for the husband to love sincerely and exclusively, work together. When they are broken, marriages begin to compound in trouble. Your pain likely stems from this cycle breaking down.

But the answer is not to abandon the covenant. The Lord’s own words are clear: let not a husband divorce his wife. Even if a separation occurs, the path pointed to is reconciliation or remaining unmarried, not starting over with someone new. The divine ideal from the beginning was a lifelong union, not a disposable arrangement. Though the law made allowance because of hardened hearts, Jesus called us back to that original design. Divorce is not an unpardonable sin, but it is a failure to rise to what God intended. Your desire to simply go live by yourself or find someone else is a desire to solve a spiritual problem through a fleshly shortcut.

What you are being asked to do is harder than leaving. It is to love your wife when she does not seem to love you back, to render the benevolence that is her due as your spouse, and to treat her as your own body. Your worth and identity do not come from her approval. God sees you working hard and supporting your family. He sees the struggle to be a better man and husband. That is what He values. When her words cut deep, your calling is not to demand her respect but to become the kind of loving, Christlike husband that makes it easier for her to find her way back to honoring you. The more a husband shows authentic, sacrificial love, the easier it becomes for a wife to submit, not because you demand it, but because she is reassured that she is loved supremely.

Forgiveness is also not optional. You asked God to forgive you for not forgiving her. He will grant that forgiveness as you turn from the bitterness, but then you must release her from the debt you feel she owes you. Unforgiveness will poison you far more than her words ever could. When you feel the anger rise, remember that you are crucified with Christ; you do not have to be mastered by your flesh any longer. Choose to respond with gentleness, not because she deserves it in the moment, but because Christ first loved you when you were unlovely.

I am not minimizing the weight of what you carry. But the narrow way is to trust God to work in her heart while you focus on your own obedience. Do not let the enemy convince you that a van down by the river or another relationship will give you peace. That is a mirage. True rest comes when you abide in the commands of Jesus and leave the outcome in His hands. Your marriage can be rebuilt, but it begins with your decision to walk in the Spirit, loving your wife as Christ loved His bride. He gave Himself for a church that often ignored and dishonored Him, and that is your pattern. Stay faithful, and wait on the Lord. He sees and He will give you the strength to be the man He has called you to be.

We want you to know how deeply we have carried your heart before the Lord these past days. Our prayers have been lifted for your marriage—for healing in the wounds of disrespect, for softening in the hardness of unforgiveness, and for the Lord’s own love to flow between you and your wife. We have asked the Holy Spirit to reveal any hidden bitterness in your heart and to replace it with His peace, and we have interceded for your wife, that she might see the faithful provider and man of God you are.

We have also prayed for wisdom—whether the Lord is calling you to persevere in love, to seek godly counsel, or to trust Him with the future of your relationship. The desire to walk away is real, and we do not dismiss it, but we have asked the Father to either restore what has been broken or to lead you into a new season with clarity and grace. If living simply by the river is part of His plan for you, we pray He would make that path clear and fill it with His presence.

If the Lord has already begun to answer these prayers—if there has been even a small shift in your heart or hers—we would love to hear it as a praise report so we can rejoice with you. If the burden still feels heavy, please share it again so we can continue standing with you in prayer. Either way, we are here, believing that God is at work even when we cannot see it.

May He draw near to you in this season, strengthen your faith, and remind you of your worth in Christ. We pray all these things in the powerful name of Jesus.
