Is this idea from God?

I was just intercessing for the country of Brunei & then Bhutan, while doing that I somehow had a thought of the school I used to go to for sixth form not too long ago. I kinda feel some sort of regret as I wasn't much of a witness of Jesus, but I was very much in my sanctification process, and maybe in some senses I was a witness of Jesus, as one of my friends was into tarot card reading & believed in the spiritual realm. I told him in that moment that I believed in the spiritual realm, but wasn't gonna get a tarot card reading from him, as it's demonic. I can't remember what I actually said, but something like that. So maybe little things like that planted a seed.

But, the idea was to preach or have a cardboard sign that says "have any questions about Jesus? Talk with us" (ideally I wouldn't be alone), or maybe a sign of "do you need prayer?" (I don't know what else to say on that one though or at least how to word it properly).

Not only is this a lot for me to actually put into practice, as I am an introvert & have never done such a thing as that, so very much out of my comfort zone. Would I get church members to go or my Christian friend? Like I don't really know how to navigate all this & if this is what God wants me to do, then how do i do it, when do I do it, so many questions.

Please pray for the kids of that school. Some of them go to the youth group & when the police officers or the blind lady with the guide dog came, they had a bunch of questions to ask. I feel like that could be the case with some of the kids at that school that perhaps do or don't go to youth group, so i pray that I can be a witness of Jesus to them or that someone else is a witness of Jesus, whether a student, teacher, my church, someone in the community, or maybe even one of their family members. It's a massive school, from year 7 to sixth form, and even the primary school is right next to it and is ig a part of it too. So pray for the students, teachers, families, cleaners, & anyone else who is a part of this school & the primary school

We hear your heart, dear brother or sister in Christ, and we rejoice in your desire to be a witness for Jesus. Your intercession for ### and ### is a beautiful act of love, and it’s no coincidence that the Lord brought your former school to mind afterward. The Holy Spirit often uses our prayers to stir our hearts toward action, and your idea of engaging with students about Jesus is not only noble but aligns with the Great Commission. Jesus commands us in Matthew 28:19-20, "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

Your concern about not being a strong witness in the past is understandable, but we must remember that God uses even the smallest acts of faithfulness. Your refusal to participate in tarot card reading was a powerful testimony, you stood for truth in a moment when it mattered. 1 Peter 3:15 reminds us, "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear." You may not remember every word you said, but the Holy Spirit does, and He can use those moments to draw hearts to Himself.

The idea of holding a sign inviting questions about Jesus or offering prayer is a bold and creative way to engage with students. It’s natural to feel intimidated, stepping out of your comfort zone is where faith grows. Remember, God doesn’t call the equipped; He equips the called. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, Jesus tells Paul, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Your introversion is not a barrier to God’s work; it’s an opportunity for Him to shine through you in ways you might not expect.

As for how to navigate this, start by praying for wisdom and seeking counsel from mature believers in your church. James 1:5 says, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." Talk to your pastor or a trusted Christian friend about your burden. They may have insights or even volunteers who would join you. You don’t have to do this alone, ecclesiastes 4:9-10 tells us, "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up."

Consider starting small. You don’t have to jump into holding a sign right away. Begin by praying for the school regularly, asking God to open doors and hearts. Maybe you could write letters to former teachers or friends, sharing your faith and offering prayer. Or, if you’re comfortable, you could visit the school during an open event or sports game to reconnect with students in a low-pressure setting. The key is to be led by the Holy Spirit, not by fear or pressure.

We must also address the spiritual battle you’re stepping into. Schools are often battlegrounds for young hearts and minds, and the enemy will not take kindly to your efforts. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, "For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." Put on the full armor of God daily, pray, fast, and stand firm in the truth. Surround yourself with believers who will support and intercede for you.

Now, let us pray for you and for the school:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for this brother or sister who desires to be a light in their former school. Lord, we thank You for stirring their heart to intercede for nations and now for the students, teachers, and families connected to this school. We ask that You would go before them, preparing the way and softening hearts to receive Your truth. Give them boldness, Lord, to step out in faith, even when it feels uncomfortable. Equip them with Your words, Your wisdom, and Your love as they seek to share the hope of Jesus.

Father, we pray for the students at this school, those who are searching, those who are lost, and those who are already walking with You. Protect them from the lies of the enemy and surround them with godly influences. Raise up more witnesses among the teachers, staff, and families to point them to Christ. We ask that You would break chains of darkness, whether it’s addiction, despair, or spiritual deception, and replace them with the light of Your Son.

Lord, we also pray for this brother or sister’s confidence. Remind them that You are their strength and that Your power is made perfect in their weakness. Help them to trust You with the details, when to go, what to say, and who to partner with. Provide them with like-minded believers to stand alongside them, and give them favor with the school community.

Finally, Father, we rebuke any spirit of fear or doubt that would try to hold them back. Fill them with Your peace and assurance that this burden is from You. May Your name be glorified through their obedience, and may many come to know You as a result. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above all names, the only name by which we are saved. Amen.

Continue to seek the Lord in this, dear one. His plans for you are good, and He will guide your steps. Trust in Him, and don’t be afraid to take that first step of faith. The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few, may you be a willing worker in His field.

We can hear both the weight and the excitement in what you're describing. That flicker of an idea, mixed with a tender regret about the past, sounds very much like the Holy Spirit stirring something in you, a gentle, persistent nudge rather than a loud, anxious shove. It is so like the Lord to take a moment of intercession for far-off places and suddenly bring the faces of a nearby school to mind.

What stands out to us most is the simple, disarming nature of the thought you had: a sign that asks a question, not one that makes a declaration. For an introvert, that feels like wisdom. You are not being asked to transform your personality overnight or to deliver a polished sermon on the street corner. You are simply being willing to show up and be available. A sign that says, "Questions about Jesus? We're here to talk," or even just "Need Prayer?" lets the Holy Spirit be the initiator. It doesn't put the pressure on you to start every conversation; it simply opens a door for the ones God is already having with those kids.

Since doing this alone feels like a lot right now, we’d encourage you to start even smaller by not going alone at all. Share this specific idea with one trusted Christian friend or a few members from your church and simply pray together about it first. Don't frame it as a project to recruit for yet; just ask if they would seek God’s clarity with you. As you pray together, maybe the “who” will become clear, and the “how” and “when” will feel less overwhelming. The goal isn’t to replicate a feeling from the past or to make up for lost time, Christ has already covered your past and is gently leading you into this new season of walking alongside Him.

Let’s pray together:

Lord Jesus, we lift up this willing heart to You. Thank You for the seeds You allowed them to plant in the past, even during their own sanctification. Now, we ask for Your clear direction. If this idea to go to the school is from You, please confirm it, bring the right person to stand alongside them, and lead them step-by-step. We pray for every student, teacher, staff member, and family connected to that school. Let the students who already come to youth group shine as lights, and draw those who are curious to ask the right questions. Give our friend a supernatural peace that overcomes the fear of stepping out, and let Your presence be unmistakable with them. Amen.

The thought that has arisen in your heart while interceding for distant lands, this strange yet persistent recollection of your old school, bears the marks of that inward heavenly calling which is not of man, nor of the flesh, but of God. Do not be quick to dismiss it as mere fancy. The Lord often speaks to His watchmen in the night watches, and disturbs their prayers with a burden for souls close at hand, even while they are praying for the ends of the earth. He laid the fields of Brunei and Bhutan upon your spirit, and then turned your eyes to that vast school, full of precious lambs. It is as if He whispered, “Why go to far countries when there is a neglected field at your very door?”

You say you were not much of a witness in those days, and you regret it. Let that regret now be sanctified, not to paralyze you with sorrow, but to fuel a holy resolve. Zaccheus was up a tree, a thieving publican, the last man we might suppose to be saved, yet Christ called him effectually, and he came down in haste. So you, too, have been called from your former smallness of faith. The little word you spoke against the tarot reading, do not despise the day of small things. A seed hidden in the soil may yet have its harvest. But now you are further on in the heavenward road; you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. Should you not return to that same ground with a bolder testimony, not in your own strength, but in the power of the Spirit who has been teaching you to do His will?

As to this notion of the sign, whether it says “have any questions about Jesus? Talk with us,” or “do you need prayer?”, I see in it a holy ingenuity. It is a door-opener, a net cast upon the right side of the ship. Your trembling at the thought of it is no proof that the idea is not from God. Remember Abram: the call was divinely applied and enforced, yet he went forth not knowing whither he went. He simply obeyed. The effectual call springs from the divine purpose and is worked by divine energy. Your very fear and sense of inability may be the school in which God is teaching you to lean wholly upon Him. “Teach me to do Your will; for You are my God.” That must be your daily prayer. You do not need finished eloquence; you need the fresh anointing of the Holy Ghost.

You ask who should go with you. Yes, take one or two of like precious faith, a church member, your Christian friend, so that the mouth of two or three witnesses the word may be established. Let it not be a crowd, lest the timid ones be frightened away, but a little band whose mere presence says, “We are here because we love your souls.” Do not tarry for a large company; a Gideon’s band is enough when the Lord is with them. And as to the timing, why not now? Catch the moments as they fly. You are burdened for the children and the youth; I charge you not to let the impression cool. The lambs are in the field, and the wolves are prowling. Hasten to the work while the iron is hot.

Do you not see the mercy in this? While you pray for them, the very act of going there will be a prayer in shoe-leather. You dread the awkwardness, the possible scorn. But think: to save the soul of the smallest child in that school will need the same power that raised Christ from the dead, and that power is pledged to those who go forth in His name. The Holy Spirit is no respecter of your infirmities; He loves to use the weak things of the world to confound the mighty. You are but the earthen vessel, the sign is but a piece of cardboard, yet God’s calling is effectual, and He can make it the means of drawing His elect from among that mass of scholars, teachers, and families. ### stirred questions among the youth; shall not the living God, dwelling in you, stir far deeper questionings?

Do not be content merely to pray, though that is the main engine of war, but rise up and harness your prayers to deeds. The Sunday school teacher who only prays and never attends the class makes a mockery of stewardship. You have a word for the older students, those sixth-formers on the cusp of the world’s snares. You have a heart for the cleaners and the teachers’ families. Your heavenly calling is a high calling, a calling from on high, and it lifts your gaze from your own comfort to the courts of the Lord. Go, then, not as a herald of doom but as one who knows the Shepherd’s voice and bids the sheep to hear Him. You were once in that school yourself, grappling with the same temptations; you know the paths they tread. Your past weakness qualifies you to speak with the tenderness of a brother.

I will join my prayers to yours for that great hive of souls, from the primary children to the departing seniors. May the Lord of the harvest thrust forth laborers, and may you be among them. Walk softly before the Lord, but walk. The land of Canaan is before you; you have gone forth to go into the land, and by grace you shall come into the land. Fear not the wedding day, nor the Bridegroom’s errand, nor the everlasting joy that follows holy toil. Put your hand to this plow, looking unto Jesus, and He will lead you out.
