Guidance from God

Please pray for guidance. May the Lord provide for insight and leading with some decisions of possible house sale and move, I yearn to hear from God on where to go in terms of travelinf housing.

We hear your heart’s cry for divine direction, and we stand with you in seeking the Lord’s perfect will for your life. The uncertainty of selling a house and moving can weigh heavily, but we know that God does not leave His children to wander in confusion. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." The Lord sees the full picture when we see only fragments, and He promises to guide those who surrender their plans to Him.

We must also examine our motives in this season. Are we seeking God’s will above our own comfort or convenience? James 4:13-15 warns against presumptuous planning: "Come now, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow let’s go into this city, and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit,' whereas you don’t know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away. For you ought to say, 'If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that.'"

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister, lifting up their desire to hear from You. Lord, You are the Good Shepherd who leads Your sheep beside still waters and restores their souls. We ask that You would make Your path clear, whether to stay or to go, to sell or to wait. Remove all fear, doubt, or selfish ambition, and replace it with Your peace that surpasses understanding. Speak through Your Word, through godly counsel, and through the quiet leading of Your Holy Spirit. May they not move until they have heard Your voice, and may every decision bring glory to Your name. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.

If you are not already in the habit of seeking God through His Word and prayer, we encourage you to carve out time daily to listen. Psalm 25:4-5 says, "Show me your ways, Lord. Teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation." God often speaks in the stillness, not in the rush of anxiety. Surround yourself with believers who can offer wisdom and accountability, and remain open to the Lord’s timing, even if it differs from your own.

Lastly, we must address the importance of submitting every area of our lives to Christ. If you have not placed your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. John 14:6 declares, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'" Salvation is found in no other name, and it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father’s guidance, provision, and peace. If you are unsure about your relationship with Christ, we would be honored to walk you through what it means to repent of your sins and trust in Him.

We are praying with you as you seek God’s direction for this possible move. We hear your deep desire to hear from Him, and we want to offer a thought that has brought steady comfort to many in similar seasons. Sometimes when we’re waiting for a clear call, the pursuit of absolute certainty can quietly become a way of standing still. A pastor we respect once said, “If God hasn’t made his will clear, choose the scarier option. See if God hasn’t already gone before you to prepare the way.” That doesn’t mean we abandon prayer or good sense, it simply reminds us that God often reveals His leading as we actually begin to walk. Taking a small, honest step (perhaps visiting one area you’re considering, or even listing the house as a tangible act of trust) often opens His peace and closes doors in ways that no amount of pondering can.

While it’s normal to feel the weight of these decisions, you don’t have to carry it alone. Gathering a couple of trusted, spiritually mature friends from your church to pray with you and talk through the practical pieces can keep you grounded. They can help you see things you might miss and remind you that God’s guidance is seldom rushed and never absent.

Lord, thank You that You are not far off when we yearn for Your voice. Quiet this heart and grant a deep, settled peace. Give wisdom for each next step, and help the way become clear in Your perfect timing. We ask all this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

The yearning to hear from God in the matter of selling and moving must first bow at the throne of Divine Sovereignty. There is no attribute more comforting to His children, yet the present generation recoils from tracing God’s hand in everything. But if we would have guidance, we must submit to this: the Lord alone leads, and His way is often to stir the nest as an eagle stirs up her young. That unsettling desire to uproot and travel, could it be the Divine Instructor spreading His wings over you to teach you flight? The low tree shall mount even to the stars if He fosters it; the green tree dries up without heaven’s dew. So your housing and your going forth hang entirely upon Him.

Faith alone can shape such a decision and shield it from haste and mere excitement. Moses refused the palace not by force of blood nor sudden patriotic fire, but by faith in Jehovah. Without that faith, we drift the way the current goes. The Grace of God dethrones obstinacy and gives acquiescence in the Divine will; bowing there, we are furnished with unerring guidance. Great principles are infused in every soul that takes God for its Guide, among them, avoid everything that is evil. This will keep you from any housing or travelling that would entangle you in sin. Let that be a fixed point while you wait for the particular leading.

Patience, then, for the Divine interpositions do not come with noise as we might wish, but they are full of wonder nonetheless. How strikingly has God delivered some of us in subtle ways! Not miraculous, but marked by gentleness. When David scrabbled like a fool, when Abigail intercepted his rashness, it was Divine gentleness restraining the blow. Your perplexity about travel and house may be the scene where He means to show you that same tenderness, if you will let Him lead. The floods of trouble may seem deep, but He reaches from above to draw you out.

And yet, do you sense a peculiar unrest at the thought of misstepping? That conviction is itself the beginning of guidance. Naturally we do not like being guided; it takes a work of Grace upon the heart. But Divine Wisdom, dressed in robes of love, invites us into her arms. The one hope of God’s people is His felt Presence, and that Presence dissolves difficulties. When He comes down, the mountains flow at His feet. Reach for the secret of the tabernacle, that Most Holy Place of communion where no opinion of man intrudes, and there wait for His voice. He saves the most obstinate from their own foolish haste; He will not let the elect perish.

Should the way seem to tear away comforts, know that if you could read the whole in the light of eternity, you would bless the hand that wounds. You shall afterward receive me to glory is the sure result for every soul He guides. Whether the house sells or not, whether you go or stay, cling to this: all your care cast upon Him becomes His divine challenge to show Himself strong. The fullness of His sentence over your life is not partial liberty, but full freedom through Christ. And when He shows you His hands and feet in some fresh way, you will feel the glory within your soul, ashamed of former resistance, and softly led where you would never have chosen alone. Wait, then, bowing with submission, avoiding all evil, and trusting the Eagle who bears eaglets on His wings.
