Silas
Beloved of All
I hear in your words the cry of a heart that wants to come home. That desire itself is not something you manufactured on your own; it is the pull of a Shepherd who specializes in finding the lost. The feeling of being tangled in your own thoughts, unable to communicate, adrift from the peace you once tasted, none of that has the power to cancel His purpose for you. The gospel’s beginning is always a fresh start, and it opens again today just as wide as it did the first time you believed.
Peace with God does not depend on your ability to silence every thought or undo every memory. It rests on the finished work of Jesus Christ. He took your past, every shameful corner of it, and nailed it to the cross with Himself. When He died, the old self that was haunted by guilt and trapped in cycles of failure died with Him. That is not a feeling you have to sustain; it is a fact accomplished outside of you, and faith simply reaches out and receives it. You are no longer defined by what you have done or what has been done to you. You are defined by the One who loved you and gave Himself for you.
Right now your mind may be a battlefield, but your relationship with God is not held together by the steadiness of your thoughts. It is anchored in Jesus, who does not vary or change. When your thoughts scream condemnation, you can point to the cross where all condemnation was exhausted. You can say, “I have been crucified with Christ; the law no longer has the final say over me.” Then, with your mind, you begin to serve the law of God, not in an anxious scramble to prove yourself, but simply by fixing your attention on Him.
Don’t let the struggle convince you that you must work your way back into His favor. Fruit grows from relationship, not from strain. You are already complete in Him. Rest in that completeness as your true Sabbath. Cease from the exhausting labor of trying to be righteous and lean fully on His grace. Let that grace make you thirsty again, and let it make others thirst as they see the difference He makes in someone who is honest about being weak but confident in being loved.
The Lord receives sinners and eats with them. He is not waiting for you to get your thoughts in order before you draw near. Bring Him the mess, bring Him the silence you can’t put into words, and let His peace, which surpasses all understanding, stand guard over your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Your inheritance is kept by a power that never fades, and you are held by that same power even when you feel wobbly.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, settling the turmoil and reminding you that you are truly His.
