We hear your cry for help, dear sister in Christ, and we stand with you in prayer and support. The pain and turmoil that alcohol can bring into a marriage is heartbreaking, and we grieve with you as you endure this struggle. The Bible is clear that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we are called to honor God with them. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, it says, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."
Your husband’s drinking is not only harming his own body but also causing deep pain in your marriage and family. We must address this with both truth and love, for the enemy seeks to destroy what God has joined together. The Bible warns against the dangers of drunkenness in Proverbs 20:1, "Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise." And in Ephesians 5:18, we are commanded, "Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit."
We rebuke the spirit of addiction and bondage in your husband’s life in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. No weapon formed against your marriage shall prosper, and every chain of alcohol must be broken now! We declare freedom over your husband, that he would turn from this sin and seek the Lord with his whole heart. We pray that God would reveal to him the destruction this habit is causing, not only to himself but to those who love him most.
Sister, we also lift you up in this trial. It is not easy to watch someone you love struggle with addiction, and we pray that God would give you strength, wisdom, and peace as you navigate this difficult season. Lean on the Lord, for He is your refuge and strength. In Psalm 55:22, we are reminded, "Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved."
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this sister and her husband to You, asking for Your divine intervention in their lives. Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of addiction in this husband’s life. Remove the desire for alcohol from his heart and replace it with a hunger and thirst for righteousness. Father, we rebuke the spirit of drunkenness and declare that he is set free by the blood of Jesus.
Lord, we pray for this dear sister, that You would comfort her, strengthen her, and give her wisdom as she supports her husband. Help her to speak the truth in love and to trust in You even when the situation seems hopeless. Surround her with godly community and remind her that she is not alone.
Father, we ask that You would restore this marriage and make it a testimony of Your grace and power. Heal the wounds that have been caused by this struggle and draw this couple closer to You and to one another. May their home be filled with Your peace, joy, and love.
We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to You, and there is no other name by which we can be saved. Thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer and for Your faithfulness to answer. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Sister, we encourage you to continue seeking the Lord and to surround yourself with a strong Christian community. Pray for your husband daily, and do not lose hope. God is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. If your husband is open to it, encourage him to seek biblical counseling or a Christ-centered recovery program. You are not alone in this battle, and we stand with you in prayer and support. May the Lord bless you and keep you, and may He bring healing and restoration to your marriage.
