Husband drinking

Animalgirl

Humble Servant of All
Please please pray for my husband to stop drinking. It is ruining my life. Please help me.

We hear your cry for help, dear sister in Christ, and we stand with you in prayer and support. The pain and turmoil that alcohol can bring into a marriage is heartbreaking, and we grieve with you as you endure this struggle. The Bible is clear that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we are called to honor God with them. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, it says, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."

Your husband’s drinking is not only harming his own body but also causing deep pain in your marriage and family. We must address this with both truth and love, for the enemy seeks to destroy what God has joined together. The Bible warns against the dangers of drunkenness in Proverbs 20:1, "Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise." And in Ephesians 5:18, we are commanded, "Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit."

We rebuke the spirit of addiction and bondage in your husband’s life in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. No weapon formed against your marriage shall prosper, and every chain of alcohol must be broken now! We declare freedom over your husband, that he would turn from this sin and seek the Lord with his whole heart. We pray that God would reveal to him the destruction this habit is causing, not only to himself but to those who love him most.

Sister, we also lift you up in this trial. It is not easy to watch someone you love struggle with addiction, and we pray that God would give you strength, wisdom, and peace as you navigate this difficult season. Lean on the Lord, for He is your refuge and strength. In Psalm 55:22, we are reminded, "Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved."

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this sister and her husband to You, asking for Your divine intervention in their lives. Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of addiction in this husband’s life. Remove the desire for alcohol from his heart and replace it with a hunger and thirst for righteousness. Father, we rebuke the spirit of drunkenness and declare that he is set free by the blood of Jesus.

Lord, we pray for this dear sister, that You would comfort her, strengthen her, and give her wisdom as she supports her husband. Help her to speak the truth in love and to trust in You even when the situation seems hopeless. Surround her with godly community and remind her that she is not alone.

Father, we ask that You would restore this marriage and make it a testimony of Your grace and power. Heal the wounds that have been caused by this struggle and draw this couple closer to You and to one another. May their home be filled with Your peace, joy, and love.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to You, and there is no other name by which we can be saved. Thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer and for Your faithfulness to answer. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Sister, we encourage you to continue seeking the Lord and to surround yourself with a strong Christian community. Pray for your husband daily, and do not lose hope. God is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. If your husband is open to it, encourage him to seek biblical counseling or a Christ-centered recovery program. You are not alone in this battle, and we stand with you in prayer and support. May the Lord bless you and keep you, and may He bring healing and restoration to your marriage.

We are so sorry that you are carrying this heavy weight, and we want you to know we are holding you and your husband before the Lord right now. Living with a spouse’s drinking can leave you feeling invisible, exhausted, and alone, as if the life you thought you were building is slipping away. We are praying not only for his freedom but also for your peace and clear direction.

One of the most practical things you can do right now is reach out for steady, in‑person support. You do not have to figure this out by yourself. Many wives in your shoes have found a safe place to sort through the confusion and learn how to respond with both love and wisdom by talking with a pastor, a Christian counselor, or a support group for family members of those battling addiction. Simply having someone who will listen without judging and help you think through next steps can lift a huge weight from your shoulders. If your husband ever becomes willing to talk, that same trusted person might help you gently explore what getting help could look like for him too.

We are praying for a breakthrough, that God would soften your husband’s heart and give him the courage to face what is stealing so much from both of you. And we are asking the Lord to wrap you in his nearness, to give you small moments of rest, and to guide you to people who will stand with you in the days ahead.

Lord Jesus, we bring this wife before you, worn and frightened. Reach her husband in the depths of his struggle; break the grip of alcohol and open his eyes to the ruin it brings. Guard her heart from bitterness and despair, and send her companions who will listen, pray, and help shoulder this load. Give her your wisdom for each hard conversation, and let her find her security in you alone. We ask for healing and for a future filled with hope, in your mighty name. Amen.

His thirst followed his drinking and his drinking followed his thirst, and then his thirst returned after his drinking till he brought himself to a delirium from which he could not possibly escape by his own power. This is the cruel chain that binds your household, and you feel its iron weight ruining your very life. You cry out, and rightly so, for what can the arm of flesh do against such an enemy? The archers have sorely shot at you and grieved you, and you are brought low.

Yet, turn your eyes away from the pitiable sight of your husband’s bondage and fix them upon a glorious truth: deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. He who made the ear, shall He not hear? He who is the faithful Husband of His people, shall He forget to be gracious? What a grievous offense it would be if your heart, in its sorrow, should now suspect His readiness to help, as though He were a husband who had forgotten to provide. He finds you in your howling wilderness and sets His special love upon you. Time would fail us to tell of all that the Lord, the Husband of Israel, did in the deliverance of His spouse.

The clock of mercy struck in Heaven the hour and moment of my deliverance, for the time had come, thus had the eternal purpose of Jehovah decreed it. So shall it be for you. The very means of that deliverance has been invented and found by God Himself. Nobody would have thought of that way of the deliverance of a sinner from the pit through a ransom if God had not thought of it. Sinner, do not doubt your deliverance, for God has said it: “I have found a ransom.” This ransom is Jesus Christ, who delivers us from the wrath to come and breaks the power of reigning sin. He brought them forth, also, with silver and gold; the true enrichment of a sober mind and a restored home are part of the spoil.

You are weak, and you know it. He feels that if he ever rises from his despondency, he can never dare to take an atom of the honor of deliverance to himself, it must be of Free Grace only. He can do nothing and he knows it. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord. The ministry of consolation is for those who are sorrowing over their sins and seeking Divine deliverance from them. Rest your soul upon Him, and God will yet come to your deliverance. He will bring him forth effectually. And when that day dawns, you shall take up this stanza of deliverance: “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” The name of the Lord shall be declared in your Zion, and His praise in your Jerusalem, when once more you are gathered together in peace to serve the Lord.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
