For my husband and son to stop drinking

Anonymous

Beloved of All
My husband had been sick and had diabetes. He only drinks on some weekends, but I don't want him to drink at all. My Son drinks everyday. I know he is causing dama to his body and liver. I Pray he can get the will and the strength to stop drinking.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your husband and son, asking for His divine intervention in their lives. The Bible clearly warns us about the dangers of alcohol and its potential to lead us astray. In Proverbs 20:1, it says, "Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by it is not wise." We see the truth of this scripture in the lives of your loved ones, and we stand with you in prayer, asking God to break the chains of addiction that bind them.

First, we want to acknowledge the concern you have for your husband’s health, especially with his diabetes. The body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and we are called to honor God with our bodies (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Alcohol not only harms the body but can also dull the spirit, making it harder to hear God’s voice and follow His will. We pray that your husband would recognize the importance of caring for the body God has given him and that he would find the strength to turn away from drinking entirely.

For your son, who drinks daily, we are deeply grieved by the damage he is causing to his body and the potential long-term consequences. The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:10 that drunkards will not inherit the kingdom of God. This is not to condemn him but to remind us all of the seriousness of this sin and the need for repentance. We pray that God would convict his heart, giving him the will and strength to stop drinking. May the Lord surround him with godly influences, people who will encourage him in his walk with Christ and hold him accountable.

We also want to address the spiritual battle at hand. Addiction is not just a physical struggle; it is a spiritual one. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, "For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus Christ, declaring that it has no place in their lives. We pray that the Holy Spirit would fill them with a hunger for righteousness and a desire to live in a way that honors God.

We encourage you to continue praying fervently for them, standing on the promises of God. In James 5:16, we are told, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective." Your prayers are powerful, and we believe God hears them. We also encourage you to speak the truth in love to your husband and son, sharing your concerns with gentleness and respect, but also with boldness, as the Holy Spirit leads you.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of concern for this family. We lift up this husband and son, asking for Your mercy and grace to break the chains of addiction in their lives. Lord, we know that nothing is impossible for You, and we ask that You would give them the strength and will to turn away from alcohol. Convict their hearts, Father, and draw them closer to You. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may desire to live in a way that honors You.

We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus Christ, declaring that it has no power over them. We pray for healing in their bodies, minds, and spirits. Lord, surround them with godly influences and give them the courage to seek help if needed. We ask that You would restore their relationship with You and with each other, bringing peace and unity to this family.

Father, we also pray for this wife and mother, that You would give her the strength and wisdom to continue praying and speaking truth in love. Help her to trust in You and to lean on Your promises. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We’re so glad you’re here, bringing this weight before the Lord. It’s clear you love your husband and son deeply, and that kind of love can be incredibly costly. Watching people you care about in the grip of alcohol, especially when health is already fragile, can leave you worn down and fearful. We want you to know you’re not alone, and it’s not weak to reach out for help.

Addiction is never just a matter of willpower; it tangles mind, body, and spirit. Your husband’s diabetes makes drinking even more dangerous, and your son’s daily use places a real burden on his body. While you can’t force change, you can keep loving them and entrusting them to God. That doesn’t mean sitting passively, sometimes the most faithful step is to get support for yourself. Many wives and mothers in your shoes have found a lifeline in Al-Anon, a community of people who understand the chaos and heartbreak of loving an alcoholic. They can help you learn how to set healthy boundaries, release what you can’t control, and find your own footing again.

You might also gently encourage your husband to speak openly with his doctor about any drinking, given his condition; a trusted medical voice can sometimes reach a person in ways we can’t. For your son, keep praying for that moment when his own desire for change awakens.

Jesus, we bring this family to you. Hold this wife and mother in your peace, give her rest from worry, and wisdom for each conversation. Guard her husband’s health, and stir in him a longing for wholeness. Reach her son in the places only you can touch; break the power of alcohol and draw him toward hope and healing. We ask in your name, Amen.

Father, please meet deepest spiritual, physical, emotional, financial needs according to Your Will and timing in Jesus Name Amen
"May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace." Numbers 6:24-26

Thank you Heavenly Father for blessing us with another day, and for all you do for all of us. All glory and honor belongs to you Father. Please Heavenly Father help these loved ones get rid of these terrible habits. Please grant them peace of mind. I lift this prayer up on your glory Father God and ask that you grant your perfect will. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

““But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭17‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

All strength of every sort comes from God, and the glory of our strength must lie in God alone. When we have no might, He increases strength. To those who feel utterly without strength, the call is not to muster a weak resolve but to fling yourself upon the Divine strength and lay hold upon it. This is the hour for sacred importunity to besiege the Throne of God, for God cannot bless where there is no prayer. Pray without ceasing for your husband and son, that they may be brought to the end of their own power, and in that poverty of spirit, find life in Christ.

The dead cannot gather strength. While we are yet without strength, Christ died for the ungodly. That is the only anchor for a soul adrift. Entreat the Lord that He would grant them not merely to reform a habit, but to pass from a state of sickness into spiritual health by an act of faith. The joy of the Lord is your strength, yes, your strength even now, and that joy, rising quiet and deep, becomes a wellspring of endurance. It is not a frantic energy but a patient waiting upon the Lord, who gives power to the faint.

As your days, so shall your strength be. The most heavy day, when the enemy rages like a flood and the chains seem too strong, is the day when you shall have Samson’s strength. Wherever you are, whatever trouble awaits, here is your shield: As your days, so shall your strength be. Wait upon the Lord for this promise, and believe that He who gives strength proportionately to the trial will yet infuse it wisely and sufficiently into those weary hearts. The Lord Jehovah is their strength and song, pray until they sing.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
