Faithful Servant
I just posted this: "There is someone overseas who I have been helping financially. This person is a YouTuber but is still trying to build their channel and is struggling financially. They are a single parent and a professing Christian although they may be a bit confused and involved in false teachings. This person recently moved and I told them that I'd help with anything they need which I still intend to do. But in the span of the past few days, they've been asking for things a lot. It hasn't been excessive (and maybe it's just stressful for me right now because I have my own responsibilities I'm trying to take care of at this time that I'm concerned about) but it has been multiple requests. I believe this person is honest. They always try to show me they are truly using the money I give them to get what they have asked for help with. But I do worry that they are getting too dependent. They are trying to get a job soon so they can provide for themselves. Please pray for me about this all. What this person is requesting me to help them with now is something that really exceeds my budget right now. Please pray I will have wisdom about what to do here." I was able to help this person but will not have anymore money to do so for a week or so. Please pray they won't ask for anything else for now. Please also pray that I will do well on my jobs and keep them and not quit or get fired so that I can help this person and also my family and handle all the financial needs of my life. I feel so weighed down by stress. Please pray it would not affect me. Thank you.

We hear your heart in this situation, and we want to lift you up in prayer while also offering biblical wisdom and encouragement. First, we must acknowledge the kindness and generosity the Lord has placed in your heart to help this brother or sister in Christ. Scripture tells us, *"Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others"* (Philippians 2:4 WEB). Your desire to help is commendable, but we must also seek the Lord’s wisdom in how to steward our resources in a way that honors Him and does not enable dependency.

We notice that while this person is a professing Christian, there may be some confusion in their walk, possibly due to false teachings. This is a concern, as Scripture warns us, *"Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world"* (1 John 4:1 WEB). It is important to encourage this individual in sound doctrine and to pray for their spiritual growth, but we must also be cautious not to become entangled in a situation where our generosity is taken for granted or used in a way that does not align with God’s will.

We also want to gently address the potential for dependency. While it is good to help those in need, we must be mindful of the principle in 2 Thessalonians 3:10 WEB, which says, *"For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither let him eat."* This does not mean we should withhold help from those who are genuinely struggling, but it does mean we should encourage self-sufficiency and responsibility. It may be wise to have an honest conversation with this person about their plans for financial independence and how you can support them in a way that empowers rather than enables.

We also want to lift up your own financial concerns and the stress you are feeling. The Lord knows your needs and your desire to provide for your family and others. Jesus reminds us, *"Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well"* (Matthew 6:31-33 WEB). We encourage you to cast your anxieties on the Lord and trust in His provision.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, lifting up our brother/sister who has been faithfully seeking to help another in need. Lord, we ask for Your wisdom and discernment in this situation. Give them the words to speak and the boundaries to set that will honor You and reflect Your love. We pray for the individual they are helping—that You would draw them closer to You, correct any confusion in their understanding of Your Word, and provide for their needs in ways that glorify You.

Father, we also ask for Your peace and provision in our brother/sister’s life. Ease their stress and anxiety, Lord. Help them to trust in You for their daily bread and to find rest in Your promises. Strengthen them in their work, that they may excel and continue to provide for their family and others as You lead. Guard their heart from worry and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding.

Lord, we ask that You would give them the courage to have honest conversations if needed, and the grace to say no when it is the right thing to do. Help them to steward their resources wisely, not out of fear or obligation, but out of a heart that seeks to honor You in all things. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and to trust in His guidance. It may be helpful to set clear boundaries with this individual, explaining that while you want to help, your ability to do so is limited. You might also consider connecting them with local resources or ministries in their area that can provide additional support. Above all, lean on the Lord and remember that He is your provider. You are not alone in this, and He will give you the strength and wisdom you need.

We're here with you, standing in faith for this situation. It's commendable that you've been helping this person, and we want to encourage you to keep seeking God's will in this. Remember, Jesus said, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you" (Luke 6:38). Trust that as you give, it will come back to you in abundance.

We also understand your concern about dependency. It's important to help, but not enable. Let's pray that this person finds a job soon and becomes self-sufficient. In the meantime, maybe you could suggest some budgeting tips or resources to help them manage their finances better.

As for your own financial situation, we know it can be stressful. But remember, "The Lord is my shepherd; I lack nothing" (Psalm 23:1). Trust in Him to provide for you and your family. Let's pray that He gives you wisdom in managing your finances and that you continue to excel in your jobs.

Let's pray together:

Dear Lord, we lift up this situation to You. Guide our friend as they continue to help this person, giving wisely and setting boundaries when needed. Help them to trust in You for their own provision and to find peace in Your care. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings, healing, and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
