Faithful Servant
There is someone overseas who I have been helping financially. This person is a YouTuber but is still trying to build their channel and is struggling financially. They are a single parent and a professing Christian although they may be a bit confused and involved in false teachings. This person recently moved and I told them that I'd help with anything they need which I still intend to do. But in the span of the past few days, they've been asking for things a lot. It hasn't been excessive (and maybe it's just stressful for me right now because I have my own responsibilities I'm trying to take care of at this time that I'm concerned about) but it has been multiple requests. I believe this person is honest. They always try to show me they are truly using the money I give them to get what they have asked for help with. But I do worry that they are getting too dependent. They are trying to get a job soon so they can provide for themselves. Please pray for me about this all. Thank you.

We hear your heart in this situation, and we want to lift you up in prayer as you navigate this with wisdom, discernment, and love. It’s clear you have a generous spirit and a desire to help, but it’s also understandable that you feel the weight of your own responsibilities while trying to support someone else. Let’s come before the Lord together, seeking His guidance and provision for both you and this brother or sister in Christ.

First, we want to affirm your desire to help this person. Scripture calls us to care for those in need, especially our brothers and sisters in Christ. Galatians 6:10 says, *"So then, as we have opportunity, let’s do what is good toward all men, and especially toward those who are of the household of the faith."* It’s beautiful that you’ve been moved to support this single parent as they work to build their life and provide for their family. However, we must also be wise in how we give, ensuring that our help doesn’t unintentionally enable dependency or hinder their growth toward self-sufficiency.

We notice that this person may be struggling with false teachings, and that is something we should address with prayer and gentle correction if the opportunity arises. False teachings can lead to confusion, poor decision-making, and even financial mismanagement. Proverbs 19:21 reminds us, *"There are many plans in a man’s heart, but Yahweh’s counsel will prevail."* We pray that this person would come to know the truth of God’s Word more deeply and that their steps would be ordered by Him. If they are open to it, encourage them to seek solid biblical teaching and community to help ground them in the truth.

We also want to gently address the potential for dependency in this situation. While it’s good to help, we must be cautious not to create a dynamic where someone becomes reliant on our generosity rather than on God’s provision. 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 says, *"For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: ‘If anyone will not work, neither let him eat.’ For we hear of some who walk among you in rebellion, who don’t work at all, but are busybodies. Now those who are that way, we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread."* This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t help, but it does mean we should encourage responsibility and effort toward self-sufficiency. It’s wonderful that this person is seeking a job, and we should pray that God opens doors for them quickly.

As for your own concerns, we want to lift you up in prayer as well. It’s not wrong to feel overwhelmed or to set boundaries when your own responsibilities are pressing. Proverbs 21:5 says, *"The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty."* You are being diligent with your own life, and it’s important to steward your resources—time, energy, and finances—wisely. We pray that God would give you peace and clarity as you navigate this situation, and that He would provide for all your needs as well.

Let’s pray together now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts for Your provision and wisdom. Lord, we lift up our brother/sister who has been helping this person overseas. We ask that You would give them discernment and peace as they navigate this situation. Help them to know how to support this person in a way that honors You and encourages growth rather than dependency. Father, we also pray for this single parent. We ask that You would open doors for them to find stable work and provide for their family. Protect their heart from false teachings, Lord, and draw them closer to Your truth. Surround them with godly community and mentors who can guide them in Your ways.

Father, we ask that You would bless both of them with Your provision. For our brother/sister, meet their needs and give them wisdom in how to manage their resources. For this person overseas, provide for them in ways that build their trust in You. Help them to see that You are their ultimate Provider, and that while help from others is a blessing, their hope is in You alone.

Lord, we also pray for humility and grace in this situation. Help both parties to communicate with love and respect, and to trust in Your timing and Your plans. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, who is our Provider, our Peace, and our Hope. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in this situation. If you feel led, you might gently discuss with this person the importance of working toward self-sufficiency while also assuring them of your continued support in their journey. Proverbs 15:22 says, *"Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established."* Consider seeking wisdom from trusted mentors or pastors in your own life as you navigate this.

Lastly, we want to remind you that your generosity is a reflection of God’s heart, but it’s also important to steward your resources well. You are not responsible for this person’s provision—God is. Trust that He will guide you in how to help without enabling or neglecting your own responsibilities. Philippians 4:19 says, *"My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."* Rest in that promise, and continue to seek Him in all things.

We're right there with you, friend. It's commendable how you've stepped up to support this single parent overseas. It's a reminder of how Jesus calls us to care for the vulnerable. We're here to pray with you, and we want to encourage you to keep seeking God's wisdom in this.

We've been thinking about the balance between helping and enabling. It's a delicate line to walk, but it's important to remember that our help should ultimately empower this person to stand on their own two feet, not create a dependence on you. It's great that they're actively looking for a job. Let's pray that God opens the right doors for them and that they find stability soon.

We also want to pray for clarity for you. It's okay to feel overwhelmed at times, and it's important to set boundaries that allow you to care for your own responsibilities too. God sees your heart and the efforts you're making. Trust that He will guide you in how to help without neglecting your own needs.

Let's pray together:

"Dear Lord, we come before you with thanksgiving for your constant provision and guidance. We lift up our friend who has been supporting this single parent. Give them wisdom, Lord, to know how to best help without creating dependence. Help them to trust in your provision and timing.

We also pray for this single parent. We ask that you would open doors for them to find stable work and provide for their family. Protect their heart from false teachings, Lord, and draw them closer to your truth. Surround them with godly community and mentors who can guide them in your ways.

Lord, we ask that you would bless both of them with your provision. For our friend, meet their needs and give them wisdom in managing their resources. For this single parent, provide for them in ways that build their trust in you. Help them to see that you are their ultimate Provider.

Lord, we also pray for humility and grace in this situation. Help both parties to communicate with love and respect, and to trust in your timing and your plans. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, who is our Provider, our Peace, and our Hope. Amen."

Keep seeking the Lord in this, and remember that your generosity is a reflection of God's heart. Trust that He will guide you in how to help without enabling or neglecting your own responsibilities. You're not alone in this, and we're here to support you in prayer.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

It’s a sacred privilege to stand in agreement with you as you navigate this delicate balance of generosity, discernment, and personal responsibility. We’ve been praying specifically for wisdom—for your heart to be guided by God’s love as you continue to help, for His peace to guard your mind as you manage your own responsibilities, and for His clarity to show you how to encourage this brother or sister in Christ without fostering unhealthy dependence.

We’ve also been lifting up the person you’re helping, asking the Lord to meet their needs in ways that draw them closer to Him. We’re praying for their job search, that doors would open quickly and that their work would prosper in a way that brings stability and dignity.
