Please help my ### and ### do right by me. They cause me unnecessary stress. I don’t want to deal with the problems they cause. Please keep me safe. I don’t want any problems or financial issues. Should I file for divorce to protect myself? Help me to decide. Protect me, please. I cannot afford to do what my ### wants now. Please forgive me. Help me children do right by you and not live in sin and give them the desires of their hearts. Amen.

We hear your cry and we join with you before the Father in this time of stress and worry about your family, your safety, and your finances. We understand the weight you feel when those closest to you cause you distress and when you feel unable to meet what is being asked of you. We bring all of this to the Lord together because He cares deeply for you.

We want to speak gently and truthfully about marriage as we pray for you. You ask whether you should file for divorce to protect yourself. We believe marriage is a sacred and lifelong covenant between a man and a woman as God designed it, and we want to strongly encourage and uphold that covenant. The Lord says through His word, So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, don't let man tear apart. Matthew 19:6 and For I hate divorce, says Yahweh, the God of Israel. Malachi 2:16. We also read, But to the married I command, not I, but the Lord, that the wife not leave her husband but if she departs, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband, and that the husband not leave his wife. 1 Corinthians 7:10-11. Divorce is not to be taken lightly or used simply to avoid stress or financial pressure, though we understand your fear. If there are issues of safety, unfaithfulness, or abandonment, those are serious matters that require wise, godly counsel. We encourage you not to make this decision alone or in haste, but to seek counsel from a trusted pastor and godly advisors, and where needed, wise and lawful help for protection and stewardship. We pray God will give you clear wisdom, for it is written, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5.

You asked for forgiveness and for protection and provision, and we thank God that He hears you. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. We also want to lovingly point out that your prayer did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to place your trust fully in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name for salvation and for daily access to God in prayer.

We also lift up your children with you, that they would walk with the Lord and not live in sin. We delight that you desire this for them. The Lord promises, Also delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4 when our desires are shaped by Him. We pray they will love what God loves and turn from what grieves Him, walking in truth and righteousness.

We cast all of your worries on Him together, remembering that we are told, casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 and In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. For your safety and financial needs we cling to His promises that The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. Psalm 34:17 and My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19. He has shown you what is good, to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8, and we pray those you mentioned will be moved to act justly toward you.

We pray together now, Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, lifting up this dear one who is burdened and afraid. We ask for Your forgiveness and Your cleansing, and we thank You that through Jesus we can approach Your throne with confidence. We ask You to pour out Your peace that surpasses understanding upon this heart and to guard this life. We ask You to protect from harm and from financial ruin, to provide for every need according to Your riches in glory, and to give wisdom beyond human understanding about the marriage and the decisions ahead. Lord, we ask You to work in the hearts of those family members who have caused stress, that they would act justly and with mercy and do what is right. If there is sin or hardness, bring conviction and reconciliation where possible. If there is need for godly counsel and protection, make the path clear. We lift up the children, asking that You draw them to Yourself, keep them from living in sin, lead them to delight in You, and shape the desires of their hearts to align with Your will. Heal this family, restore what is broken, and let Your will be done above our own. We trust You to guide each step. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

We hear how heavy this feels for you right now, and we are praying for you. Being pressed by stress in family relationships, worrying about money and safety, and wondering whether divorce is the way to protect yourself is a lot to carry at once. It makes sense you are asking God for protection and for clear direction.

Decisions about marriage touch so many parts of life for a long time, financially, emotionally, and for children and extended family, so it helps not to carry this alone. We would encourage you to sit down soon with one or two wise, steady voices who know you, like a pastor or a trusted Christian counselor, to talk through what protection might look like and what options you actually have. Many have found that learning about mediation as a first step, rather than moving straight to litigation, can lower conflict and cost and helps keep the focus on a workable future for everyone. A separate conversation with a reputable financial counselor in your area can also help you understand practical next steps without having to commit to anything right away. Give yourself time to gather that counsel and to pray before any final decision, and keep reaching out when the stress rises.

You also brought your children before the Lord and asked for forgiveness. God hears that humble heart and we join you in those prayers.

Father, we lift our friend to You and ask for Your protection and peace. Guard them from harm, provide for what they need financially, and give wisdom through trusted counsel. Draw their children close to You and guide each next step according to Your will. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Your prayer lays open a heart that is pressed with many cares, and the Lord who hears the sighing of the troubled one has heard you. You speak of stress from those nearest to you, of fears about safety and provision, of a weighty question concerning your marriage, and of a desire for your children to walk aright. It is well that you have brought these burdens to Him, for what did David do when he was beset with thoughts of trouble and distress, he went always to the Lord and delighted in the comforts of his God.

You ask for protection and to be kept safe. Hear this truth, he who travels on the King's Highway is under the King's protection, but he who takes to byroads must protect himself, and the probability is that he will meet with robbers. There are ways in which safety is guaranteed, and it is in the appointed ways of God that angelic protection will be afforded. As for the truths of God which He has taught you by His own Spirit, grapple them to you as with hooks of steel, for if you go in the way of error, you cannot expect divine protection. This protection is perpetual as well as personal, and you will always need divine keeping, for God would not have charged His angels to keep His people in all their ways if they did not need protection in all their ways.

You ask, should I file for divorce to protect myself. This is a solemn question that must not be answered by haste or by leaning upon your own understanding. Happy is that man who always waits upon God to know what he shall do, who asks the Lord to guide him and who dares not lean upon his own understanding. There is a way of childlike trust in providential guidance, and in that way safety is found. Marriage in the sight of God is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and it is not to be put asunder lightly to escape stress or financial pressure. Do not distress yourself by trying to force a decision in your own strength. Perhaps you are not called to decide this very hour, and grace will be given when the time comes. Seek at once the counsel of faithful pastors and godly, wise helpers in your church, and if there are matters of safety or law, seek also sober and honest counsel, that you may act not in passion but in the fear of God and in obedience to His Word. To seek protection by stepping out of the appointed way will not bring the keeping you desire.

You confess that you cannot afford what is asked of you and you ask for forgiveness. Look up, you troubled heart, into the eyes of Jesus, and see if they are not as stars to chase away the midnight of your spirit. Look at the crown of thorns of Jesus and see if it does not pluck the thorns out of your own spirit. Does God's wrath distress you, it has spent itself on Jesus, how can it fall on you. Forgiveness is found in Christ alone, for He made intercession for His people and His blood pleads for sinners. If you feel you cannot even pray aright, He makes intercession in the saints, and if you feel dead to divine things, He can quicken you. Come to Him confessing your sin and trusting Him alone for salvation, and you will find mercy.

You pray for your children that they may do right and not live in sin. That is a prayer God loves to hear. Do not ask Him to give them the desires of their hearts if those desires run toward sin, for God does not bless what His Word calls sin, whether it be living together outside of marriage or any other departure from His holy will. Pray rather that He will give them new hearts, that they may delight themselves in the Lord and then He will give them right desires, that they may be kept from sin and walk in His appointed ways. Your house may have become to you a constant source of distress, as even David said, my house is not so with God, yet the distress may be never so urgent, but Christ can come and remove it. When Israel had destroyed himself, then God was his help.

Cast your financial fears also upon Him. This age is an age of care, we live too fast and do too much, and therefore accomplish too little. But is not a soul safe when it is under His protection. Because He lives, you shall live also. He knows your need and your limits, and He is able to provide and to guide you in honest stewardship day by day.

May the Lord grant you a quiet waiting upon Him, a firm holding to His truth, a clear path made plain by His Word and by the counsel of His people, and a heart that delights in the comforts of God in Christ. May He keep you in all your ways, forgive you through the blood of Jesus, and lead your children into holiness for His name's sake.
