Please let those who hate me forgive . I don’t know what else to do. I am learning a lot about people; it is sad and good. I didn’t talk about anyone. I hope no one uses what I say against me. Forgive me for lashing out. I pray for acceptance, forgiveness, and truth and understanding. I know how they feel about me and how much effort to pour into the relationships with closed minded people. Help me find my new church home, please!

We hear the pain and weariness in your heart and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord together in Jesus' name. You are asking for forgiveness, for acceptance, for truth and understanding, and for a new church home, and we know God hears the cry of a humble heart.

We understand how heavy it feels to sense that others hate you or have closed their minds against you, and how confusing it is to wonder how much effort to keep pouring into those relationships. We also hear your honest confession about lashing out, and we thank you for that humility. The Lord calls us to be quick to listen and slow to anger, for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God as James 1:19-20 reminds us. When we do lash out, even when we feel hurt or misunderstood, we need to confess it to God and to those we may have wounded. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9. We encourage you to take that step and to seek forgiveness from those you may have lashed out against, trusting God with the outcome.

We also hear your desire that those who hate you would forgive you, and we gently remind you that God also calls us to forgive those who have hated or hurt us, even before they forgive us. Jesus said, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, Matthew 5:44. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you, Ephesians 4:32. It is a hard calling, but forgiveness frees our own hearts from bitterness. We cannot control whether others will forgive us or change their minds, but we can choose to walk in love and truth and to entrust ourselves to God who judges righteously. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men, Romans 12:18. Sometimes that means continuing to show grace, and sometimes it means wisely stepping back from relationships where people remain closed and hard hearted, shaking the dust from our feet as Jesus taught in Matthew 10:14 when the truth is rejected.

You shared that you did not talk about anyone and you fear what you say being used against you. We encourage you not to live in fear of man, for the Lord is our helper and our defender. The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe, Proverbs 29:25. Walk in truth and let your yes be yes and your no be no, Matthew 5:37, and trust God to guard your words and your reputation as you walk in integrity.

Your desire for a new church home is good and biblical, for we are not to forsake our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching, Hebrews 10:25. We pray God leads you to a faithful, Bible believing church where the Word is preached without compromise, where Jesus Christ is exalted as Lord, where believers love one another and hold each other accountable in grace and truth. Seek a church that loves the truth, preaches repentance and forgiveness through the cross, and encourages you to grow in holiness.

We noticed your prayer did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and receive forgiveness. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust fully in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, for if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved, Romans 10:9.

We now pray together for you.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ and lift up this dear one to You. Lord, You see the hurt of feeling hated and misunderstood, You see the desire to be accepted and to walk in truth. We ask You to forgive where there has been lashing out in anger, cleanse this heart and grant a spirit of gentleness and self control. Help us to love our enemies and to pray for those who have set themselves against us. Soften the hearts of those who harbor hatred or unforgiveness, and grant them also grace to forgive. Lord, give truth and understanding in every relationship, give wisdom to know when to persevere and when to step back from closed minded hearts, and guard this one's words so they are not twisted or used for harm. Lead by Your Holy Spirit to the right church home, a family of believers where Your Word is honored and where there is love, accountability, and growth. Let this time of learning about people draw this dear one closer to You, finding acceptance first in Christ. We ask all this in Jesus' name, amen.

We hear how heavy this feels to want forgiveness and understanding, and at the same time to feel exposed and unsure who you can trust with your words. It makes sense that you are learning a lot about people right now and that it feels both sad and good, and that you are tired from trying to decide how much to keep pouring into relationships that feel closed.

One insight that helps many people is that forgiveness and reconciliation are not the same thing. You can make a quiet, settled decision to release resentment and to want good for someone, even while a closer relationship can only be rebuilt if both people are willing to restore trust together. Holding that difference can ease some pressure as you discern where to stay engaged and where to step back with kindness and clear boundaries.

As you look for a new church home, a steady next step is to choose one or two churches to visit for three or four weeks in a row instead of visiting a different place each Sunday. Arrive a little early or stay a few minutes after, introduce yourself to a pastor or someone on the welcome team, and ask how people find community and care there. Notice how you are received week to week and whether truth and grace are lived out in ordinary ways. Talking it through with a trusted friend who knows you can also help you see clearly.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus' name. Calm the fear of being misunderstood or used against, heal what was spoken in hurt, and forgive where forgiveness is needed. Give wisdom for each relationship and lead to a church home where they are known, encouraged, and able to grow. Grant peace and understanding in the days ahead. Amen.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

There is forgiveness with God, and your prayer has come before Him who delights to blot out transgression. You write as one who trembles under a sense of need, and desires forgiveness, and to such the Lord says, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake. It is a divine forgiveness, surprising in its freeness, complete in its reach, and eternal in its continuance. However your heart may have lashed out, however you fear that your words may be turned against you, hear this whisper which drives away despair, There is forgiveness with Him, through Jesus Christ His Son, and with none else. He not only forgave at the first all your sins when you trusted Christ, but He continues daily to forgive, for the act of forgiveness is a continuous one, and what He forgives He remembers no more.

You ask also that those who hate you might forgive you, and you confess your own need to be forgiven for speaking in haste. Take comfort that pardon is first with God as matter of fact, and then it becomes ours in experience as we look to Christ. Believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself, as that poor monk once told Luther, and having received so much manifest forgiveness, you will find it more natural to open your hands to forgive others. The pattern set before us is this, even as Christ forgave you, so also do you. It is a joint work of mutual forgiveness among Christians, forgiving one another even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. Where hearts are closed, you cannot compel reconciliation, but you can commit your cause to Him who judges righteously, and you can keep your own heart soft, ready to forgive as soon as the opportunity is given, and praying for those who have set themselves against you.

You speak of learning much about people, both sad and good, and of not knowing how much effort to pour into relationships with closed minded people. Wisdom is needed here. Speak the truth in love, let your words be few and seasoned with grace, and leave the increase with God. He knows that you did not set out to talk against others, and He sees the desire for truth and understanding which you express. Rest your acceptance first in Christ, for if you have Christ you have all. Man's acceptance may fail, but His will never fail.

And you ask for a new church home. This is a right and good prayer. The Church is the hope of the world under Christ, and it is right that you should seek a people among whom the forgiveness of sins is preached plainly, where Christ the Just died for the unjust to bring us to God, where the Word is honored and the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ alone is proclaimed. Seek a congregation where you will hear, There is forgiveness, not as a priestly absolution from man, but as a certain promise from God through His Son, where you are called to holiness in the lifelong covenant of marriage as God ordained it and to purity of life, and where the poor and needy are cared for in the love of Christ. Go and hear, and if you find Christ lifted up there, though the place be lowly, make your home there and serve.

We pray for you now, that the Lord would grant you quietness of spirit, that He would assure you of His complete forgiveness in Christ, that He would guard your lips and heal any wound your words may have caused, that He would soften the hearts of those who are hard toward you and give you grace to forgive them fully, and that He would lead you by His Spirit to a faithful church where you may be fed, and rooted, and useful in His service. May the Lord keep you from despair, for there is forgiveness, there was forgiveness, there will be forgiveness as long as life lasts, with Him. Look to Jesus, and live.
