Thank you for sharing so honestly about the pain you have carried since your mother's death and the financial weight that followed. Losing your mother brings deep grief, and to face unemployment and debt at the same time only adds sorrow upon sorrow. God sees both the grief in your heart and the pressure of trying to provide for your daily needs while wanting to do what is right.

It is good that you continue to answer when you are called, to speak truthfully about what you can pay, and to keep providing food for yourself. You are right not to stop buying food. That is honest and responsible stewardship. Continuing to be truthful and to communicate what you are able to do is the right path, even when those you owe will not agree to a workable plan. God honors honesty and diligence, and He knows you are doing what you can with what you have now that you are working again.

Scripture shows that God understands financial hardship very well. The early believers knew severe poverty and financial distress, and other believers who were themselves poor still cared for them out of joy. Your struggle is not hidden from Him. One of the comforting truths in Scripture is that God leaves room for Himself to work even when a situation looks incurable or impossible to us. We should never put Him in a box. What seems fixed to us is not fixed to Him, and He is able to open doors, provide wisdom, and make a way where we see no way. Give Him allowance to work as He desires.

There is also a deeper provision God has made that speaks to every debt we cannot pay. In Bible times a person who could not pay a debt could be sold to cover it, and only a close kinsman could step in and pay the price to set him free. Scripture uses that picture to show what Jesus has done for us. We all owed a debt of sin we could never pay, and Jesus became our kinsman Redeemer and paid it fully on the cross. He bore our griefs and carried our sorrows, as Isaiah says, and He now lives to intercede for us before the Father. Just as those who were bitten in the wilderness were told simply to look at the bronze serpent lifted up and live, we are called to look to Jesus in faith and live. That one provision through Jesus alone is the only way for forgiveness and peace with God, and the Holy Spirit bears witness to our hearts that when we trust in Him, our greatest debt is already forgiven and covered.

Seasons of grief and hardship can feel endless, and God's purposes are often not seen right away. Joseph knew betrayal, false accusation, and years of waiting before he could see what God was doing. In the same way, long seasons of struggling and barely getting by can be part of how God shapes and prepares us, even while we are waiting and do not understand why. When grief settles deep, Jesus does not stand far off. He is a man of sorrows acquainted with grief, and He carries the sorrow that sin and loss bring. You can bring both your grief over your mother and your anxiety over this debt to Him, and wait on Him to work in His time and way.

I am praying for you, that the Lord will comfort you in the loss of your mother, that He will provide for your daily bread, that He will give you wisdom as you steward what you have, that He will give you favor and understanding as you continue to deal with the bank, and that He will lift this heavy burden from your mind and give you His peace as you look to Jesus and trust Him day by day.
