Disciple of Prayer
Dear Lord God almighty, Bless your holy name. Please have mercy on my soul and help me. Im old, im poor, i cant afford to live anywhere. im sickly and i worry everyday. im estranged from my adult child and they dont want to talk to me or have anything to do with me. I feel so alone and i dont have anyone to talk to. ive been wasting what little funds i had on buying lottery scratch tickets. its gambling and its not wise. i dont have an appetite and im losing weight. its hard to be alone in the world, my life is a failure. im smoking cigarettes and its killing me. i tell myself everyday that im gonna quit but im having a hard time. Please agree with this prayer for the Lord to deliver me from these sins. Please forgive me of my sins Lord Jesus and help me.

We have heard your cry and we join with you before the throne of grace in the name of Jesus, for you have called upon His holy name and He hears you. We thank you for your honesty about the burdens you carry, and we want you to know you are not alone and you are not forgotten by God, even when you feel alone in the world.

The Lord sees your poverty, your sickness, your worry, your loneliness and your estrangement from your child. He is close to the brokenhearted. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Deuteronomy 31:6 reminds us He will not fail you nor forsake you. When you feel your life is a failure, remember God does not measure your worth by money or success. He created you with purpose and He still has purpose for you in this season of life. Psalm 71:9 says Do not reject me in my old age, do not forsake me when my strength fails, and Psalm 71:18 says even when I am old and gray haired, God, do not forsake me. Isaiah 41:10 says Do not be afraid, for I am with you, do not be dismayed, for I am your God, I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you. Romans 8:28 assures us that all things work together for good for those who love God.

We must also lovingly speak the truth about the sins you have confessed, because God calls us to turn from them and He provides the way out. You rightly recognized that buying lottery scratch tickets is gambling and is not wise. This is poor stewardship of what little God has provided and it feeds covetousness and the false hope of chance rather than trust in God's provision. We are called to be faithful with little and to trust Him to supply our needs, for Matthew 6:33 says seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Philippians 4:19 says my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. We rebuke the spirit of gambling and we pray for deliverance from it.

You also confessed smoking cigarettes, knowing it is harming your body and you want to quit but are struggling. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, you are not your own, for you were bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. Smoking enslaves and destroys what God created, and He wants to set you free. 1 John 1:9 says if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We believe Jesus can forgive and cleanse and give you strength to overcome as you daily surrender to Him.

We hear your worry and your loss of appetite and weight. Worry weighs down the soul and harms the body. 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. Philippians 4:6-7 says in nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. We encourage you to seek medical care for your weight loss and lack of appetite, and to reach out to a local church family or pastor so you are not isolated. God intends us to bear one another's burdens and to not forsake assembling together. We also pray for your adult child. While we cannot force reconciliation, we pray for healing, for forgiveness on both sides, and for God's will to be done. Ephesians 4:32 says be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

We now agree together in prayer for you.

Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we lift up this precious soul to You. Have mercy, Lord, forgive all sins as they have been confessed, wash them in the blood of Jesus and cleanse from all unrighteousness. Deliver from the bondage of gambling and from the addiction to cigarettes, break every chain and give a way of escape and strength to walk in freedom. Provide for every physical need, for housing, for daily bread, for health, restore appetite and bring healing to this sickly body, for You are the One who heals all our diseases as Psalm 103:3 says. Take away the constant worry and fill this heart with Your peace that passes understanding. Comfort the loneliness, let Your presence be felt each day, and bring godly community and fellowship to walk alongside. We pray for the estranged child, that You would soften hearts, bring forgiveness and if it is Your will, restore communication in Your timing. Renew hope, show that this life is not a failure but is held in Your hands, and that Your plans are still good, for Jeremiah 29:11 says I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Help our dear one to be a good steward of what You provide, to honor You with the body, and to trust You one day at a time. We ask all this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We encourage you to stay in God's Word each day, to call upon Jesus continually, to seek a Bible believing church where you can be known and loved, and to seek help from a doctor and a pastor for your health and for support to quit smoking. God loves you more than you know, He has not abandoned you, and He is able to deliver you and give you peace even in old age and poverty. Keep trusting Him, keep turning from those sins by His grace, and keep praying. We are praying with you and for you.

We heard the weight in your words, the worry about housing and health, the ache of being estranged from your child, and the loneliness of having no one to talk with. It makes sense you feel overwhelmed, and we are grateful you reached out to ask for prayer.

You were honest about the scratch tickets and the cigarettes and about wanting to be free from them. Finding it hard to quit even when you want to is a common struggle, and it does not mean your life is a failure in God's eyes. You are still someone He sees and cares for.

We want to walk with you in prayer and also encourage some practical support alongside prayer. Because you mentioned loss of appetite and weight and ongoing smoking, we encourage you to see a doctor or clinic soon to talk through those health concerns and to ask about safe, supported ways to quit. For the gambling and financial strain, it can help to have one trusted person to talk with regularly, a pastor, counselor or a support group in your area, and someone who can offer simple financial guidance so the pressure does not keep building alone. If you have a local church, letting them know you feel isolated could open a door to companionship as well.

Father, we lift our friend to You. Forgive sins through Jesus and bring mercy, comfort and daily strength. Provide for housing and health needs, ease worry and draw near in loneliness. Give wisdom and steady help to turn from gambling and smoking, and restore appetite and health as You will. Lead toward supportive community and toward any reconciliation You desire with their child. In Jesus' name, amen.

Father, please provide your child with food and shelter, and a safe place to live. Please help them cast off the addictions of lottery tickets and cigarettes. Father, please heal the relatinship between this person and their child. Please give this person your peace and help them to care about themselves. In Jesus' name amen.

I pray that you are given the money that you need to get out of the terrible situation of poor and more secret prayer requests, praying for all of this plus more, in jesus name amen

Your prayer has been heard with much tenderness and we have carried it before the Lord with you. You speak plainly of your sorrows, your poverty and sickness, your loneliness and estrangement, your wasting of little funds upon scratch tickets, your loss of appetite and weight, and your bondage to cigarettes, and you confess these things as sins from which you desire to be delivered. This honesty is itself a mercy, for it is the smoking flax in which there is yet a little living fire that the Spirit has kindled.

Do not think that your loneliness has been unnoticed by the Savior. He was left alone just when most, as Man, He needed human sympathy, and He knows the sorrow of being forsaken. Yet He said, You shall leave Me alone and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. Though your child will not speak with you and you feel you have no one to talk to, you are not alone if you are in Christ. The Father draws near to the lonely and hears the cry that seems to have no other hearer. There is no such loneliness as to be alone in this great wilderness, but the Lord looks with tender pity upon those who are shut up and solitary.

Take comfort also in this word, the bruised reed shall He not break, and the smoking flax shall He not quench. You feel your faith to be like smoking flax, giving little light and yielding no sweet savor, mixed with much that is wrong and erroneous, too little to be of much use to anyone. Yet our Savior did not come to quench such a flicker but to tend it. If He will not quench the smoking flax even where there is great darkness, how much more will He not quench the smoking flax of a penitent who desires to be clean. The Spirit put that little fire there, and He will not put it out. He will fan it till it burns more brightly.

You ask for deliverance from these sins and for forgiveness. Know that deliverance from the guilt of sin and deliverance from the power of sin are both the work of God alone. It is not of him that wills nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. No man would have thought of the way of deliverance from the pit of hell through a ransom if God had not thought of it, but He has found a ransom. His own Son has borne the penalty of all iniquities, and when God Himself proclaims, I have found a ransom, then deliverance is certain, indeed it is already accomplished for all who trust in Christ. You need not doubt your deliverance if you look to Jesus Christ alone for justification and for sanctification. Where we look for pardon there must we also look for power to forsake sin.

Therefore we agree with you in prayer, and we pray after this manner for you.

O Lord God Almighty, have mercy upon this soul who confesses poverty and age and sickness and sin. For the sake of Thy Son who was made lonely that lonely sinners might be brought near, forgive every transgression through His blood. Thou hast found a ransom, let this dear one know that ransom is for him. Deliver him from the guilt of sin by Thy free grace, and deliver him also from the power of sin that holds him in gambling and in smoking. Break the chain of these habits, give strength to say no to the scratch ticket and to the cigarette, and teach him to trust Thee for daily bread rather than to chance. Restore appetite and health as it pleases Thee, and grant wisdom to seek needful help from those Thou hast placed near. Comfort his loneliness with Thy presence, and if it be Thy will, soften the heart of his child toward reconciliation. Lead him into fellowship with Thy people that he may no longer walk alone, and make his life yet to declare the works of the Lord.

We exhort you, dear soul, to turn from these snares with purpose of heart, to put away the tickets and the cigarettes as you would put away poison, and to seek the Lord daily in His Word and in prayer. Seek out a faithful church where you may be known and prayed for and where you may hear the gospel preached, and seek also help from a physician for your loss of appetite and weight, for the Lord often works through such means. Bring every worry to Christ, for He cares for you, and remember that if you are delivered it will be He who brought you forth, and all the honor shall be His.

May the clock of mercy strike now the hour of your deliverance, and may you live to tell what the Lord has done for you.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
