Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The very sharpness of your anguish proves you are not godless. A soul truly abandoned by God would feel no grief over sin, no hunger for His presence. Your torment is the wound of love, not the death of faith. The evil one, seeing your desire to flee sin, now tries to drown you in the greater evil: despair. He never despairs of our destruction; how shameful if we despair of our own salvation.

Despair destroys more than sin itself. The one who falls but rises quickly through repentance amends the fault; the one who surrenders to hopelessness casts away the only medicine. You call yourself pathetic and weak. Good. That is the truth of all flesh. But do you think God commands what is possible to our own strength? He commands that we should struggle, and then He Himself makes us white as snow. Even when sin has dyed the very substance of the soul, repentance washes it clean. Not because you are strong, but because He is merciful.

You have prayed and felt nothing, and so you conclude you are not heard. But consider the fisherman: he casts his nets all night and catches nothing, yet he does not desert the sea. He casts again. The plow of the word, the effort of prayer, the battle against habit, these do not always yield an immediate harvest. Often the soul is only stirred after long perseverance. If we abandon the vine in the fourth year because we saw no fruit in the third, we lose the vintage that was just about to ripen. Your prayers are not wasted. The silence itself is a teaching, a humbling, a digging about the roots.

You say you beg for help to stop the sinful things, and you cannot. But do not imagine that the command to be chaste, or honest, or sober rests on your own power. The law was given to show you your wound, not to heal it by itself. All have sinned, even the great patriarchs, and therefore Christ came. Run to Him not as one who deserves an answer, but as one who has no other hope. Even if you sin daily, do not flee from Him; rather approach daily, entreating, asking forgiveness. The habit of daily repentance itself weakens the hold of future sin and drives away the devil.

The thoughts that whisper you are worthless and should end your life, these are the hiss of the serpent who finds his prey slipping. When a sinner begins to turn, the enemy redoubles his attack by suggesting despair. Do not believe him. The very fear you feel, the shame that scourges your conscience, is a sign that the Spirit has not departed. He stings you so that you might be healed, not so that you might perish.

Cling, then, not to feelings but to the promise. Even now, in this breaking, lift up your head. Cry out again: "Lord, help me!" and do not measure His help by your sensations. He who made the harlot pure and the thief a companion of paradise can in a moment restore your soul. But He often delays to strengthen your endurance and to teach you that salvation is entirely a gift. Do not end your life; end your despair. That is the one sin that slams the door on mercy. You are not beyond hope. So long as you breathe, the Master awaits your return. He will make you white, not because you are clean, but because He is a consuming fire of love.

It is no small thing to be at the breaking point, to feel so empty and so alone that sleep and food lose all meaning. That kind of despair is exactly what the prophet Jeremiah described: a man trapped in darkness, hedged in, with no way out. He felt that God Himself had turned away, that his prayers were hitting a sealed sky. And yet, right there in the very pit of that hopelessness, he did something that changed everything. He said, “This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope.” He forced his mind away from the desolation around him and fastened it onto something solid. Then the whole outlook shifted. The truth that broke through was that the Lord’s mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness.

What you are describing, that dreadful sense that God has not listened, is not proof that He is absent. It is the raw material of a soul being brought to the end of its own strength. For years I tried to fight my own sinful patterns by sheer will, begging God to help me reform myself. I knew the commands were good and spiritual; I genuinely wanted to stop the things I knew were wrong. But the effort only led to a deeper death. Every attempt to make myself righteous before God by my own effort just exposed how powerless I was. The law was never meant to be a ladder out of the pit. Its purpose was to show us how deep the pit really is, so that sin would become utterly sinful in our eyes, and we would stop trying to fix ourselves and start looking for a deliverer.

That is why the cry “O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me?” is not a sign of weakness. It is the most honest and hopeful prayer a person can pray. The answer is immediate: I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Not through my own reforming, not through my tears or promises, but through Him. Deliverance came when I finally stopped asking how I could deliver myself. God, by His own Spirit, sets captives free. You have been praying to be closer to Him, and it may well be that the profound sense of your own inability is not the silence of God but the noise of your own efforts falling away so that you can hear His grace alone.

You are not worthless, and you are not godless unless you finally turn your back on the only righteousness that counts. Right now, you are listening to a voice that tells you God does not see, does not care, will not act. That voice has been hissing since Eden: “Has God indeed said…?” It wants you to draw the conclusion that you are too far gone. But Scripture insists that while we were still weak, at just the right time, Christ died for the ungodly. While we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son. If His death could reconcile you when you were an enemy, how much more will His life save you now that you are reconciled? He is alive right now, and He lives to make intercession. He does not reject the desperate; He receives them.

The feelings of heaviness, agitation, and crushing despair can often be the smoke of a spiritual battle. The enemy would love for you to believe that your case is hopeless. But the weapons that actually win this war are not carnal. They are the truth of God’s Word, faith in His promises, and prayer that refuses to let go of what Christ has already done. Righteousness will never come by your works. If it could, then Jesus died for nothing. But the gift is entirely of grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. God does not impute iniquity to the one whose faith is anchored there. You stand before Him not in your own crumbling goodness, but in the perfect standing of another.

And that standing is yours right now, not after you manage to clean up. This is not a license to remain in sin; it is the power to leave it. The same grace that forgives also teaches us to say no to ungodliness. But the change begins not by trying harder in the flesh, but by setting your mind on the things of the Spirit. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. You can think yourself into the grave, or you can, even through clenched teeth, begin to recall to mind what God has said. His compassions have not failed. He will not cast off forever. He guards the bruised reed. He binds up the brokenhearted.

This breaking you feel, as terrifying as it is, resembles something Jacob knew. He wrestled all night with God, limping in his own stubborn strength, until God touched the socket of his hip. He was broken, and in that brokenness he stopped conniving, stopped manipulating, stopped relying on his own cleverness to get through. From that moment he was no longer just Jacob the schemer; he became Israel, which means “governed by God.” Sometimes God uses this kind of breaking to bring us to the place where we finally stop fighting and let Him govern. You have begged for help, and you feel only silence. But the silence may be Him waiting for you to stop struggling and start trusting the finished work of His Son.

You are not beyond His reach. You have a high priest who is touched with the feeling of your infirmities. He hears you. The cross is the unshakeable proof that God’s anger toward those who trust in Jesus is turned away. He loves freely. He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him graciously give us all things? That includes the ability to stand, the grace to overcome, and the hope that shines in the dark. Let that be what you recall to your mind, especially in the hours when sleep will not come. Whispers of grace, not shouts of accusation.

Do not measure His attention by your feelings. Measure it by the empty tomb. You have access by faith into this grace in which you stand. I beg you, cling to that. The victory is not in your ability to pray well enough or to stop sinning by your own force. The victory is in the triumphant life of Jesus Christ, who lives in you if you have trusted in Him. And if you have not yet fully rested there, then today, in this very exhaustion, let go of your own attempts and rest in His. He is faithful. He will do it.

We want you to know how deeply we’ve carried your cry to the Father these past days. Your words—raw with exhaustion, despair, and a desperate longing to belong to God—have not fallen on deaf ears among us. We’ve wept with you in the sleepless nights, pleaded with the Lord for His nearness when you feel so utterly alone, and asked Him to break through the silence that has left you questioning His presence. You are not pathetic or weak; you are seen, and you are loved beyond measure, even when it feels impossible to believe that.

We continue to stand in the gap for you, asking God to wrap you in His peace, to quiet the storm inside, and to reveal Himself in ways that leave no room for doubt. We’ve prayed for tangible support to surround you—people who will listen, hold your hand, and remind you that you are not forgotten. We’ve asked the Holy Spirit to strengthen you where you feel powerless, to lift the weight of shame, and to help you see the small glimpses of grace that may have gone unnoticed. And we’ve begged God to protect your heart from the lies that whisper you’re beyond hope, because He is the God of redemption, and He is not done with you.

If in these days you’ve sensed even the faintest whisper of His love, the smallest shift in your spirit, or a moment of unexpected relief, we would be overjoyed to hear about it. But if the darkness still feels overwhelming, please don’t hesitate to reach out again. We are not walking away. We will keep praying, keep believing, and keep standing with you until the light breaks through. You are not godless or worthless—you are a child of the Most High, and He is fighting for you, even when you can’t see it.

We love you, we’re here for you, and we will not stop lifting you up. May the Father draw near to you in ways that bring healing to your soul, hope to your spirit, and rest to your weary heart. In Jesus’ Name we pray.
