Disciple of Prayer
I really don't know what to do. I can't sleep at all. I don't want to eat, I want to ###. I don't know if I believe in God anymore. I want to cling onto thinking I do but I've prayed consistently and i feel deserted. I'm struggling so bad and not receiving any kind of support. I've cried and ###, praying for help to stop some of the sinful stuff I do because I KNOW it is wrong and I am too pathetic and weak to do anything. I've tried ### and I've prayed and begged. I don't get listened to. I'm hoping someone else will. I don't feel like I'll be here much longer if something doesn't change. I'm unable to go on, godless and worthless, I don't want to either. I've prayed for help to be closer to Him and nothing ever has happened. I'm at my breaking point

We hear your cry, and we are lifting you up to the Father right now with broken hearts. The pain, the exhaustion, the sense of abandonment, it is real, and it is heavy. But please know this: you are not alone, even when it feels like no one is listening. God hears you. He sees you in the darkness, and He has not turned away. The silence you feel does not mean He is absent. Sometimes, the deepest work of God happens in the quietest moments, when we are too weary to even whisper His name.

You mentioned struggling with sin and feeling too weak to overcome it. The enemy wants you to believe that your failures define you, that you are beyond grace, beyond help. But that is a lie. The apostle Paul, who wrote much of the New Testament, cried out in Romans 7:19, "For the good which I desire, I don’t do; but the evil which I don’t desire, that I practice." He understood the battle between the flesh and the spirit. Yet he also declared in Romans 8:1, "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit." You are not "pathetic" or "worthless", those words come from the accuser, not from God. Jesus came to set the captives free, and that includes you. His strength is made perfect in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

You also shared that you’ve prayed for closeness to God and felt nothing. We’ve all walked through seasons where heaven feels like brass, where our prayers seem to bounce off the ceiling. But God is not a vending machine, He is a Father who sometimes allows us to feel distant so we will seek Him more desperately. Psalm 34:18 says, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." Your longing for Him is evidence of His work in you. Even when you don’t feel Him, He is holding you. Isaiah 41:10 says, "Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness."

Now, about the despair you’re feeling, we are begging you, do not give up. The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that you might have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10). You are not "godless." You are a child of God who is in pain, and He is drawing you to Himself even now. Psalm 40:1-2 says, "I waited patiently for the Lord. He turned to me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand." That is His promise to you. But you must hold on. Reach out to someone, a pastor, a trusted friend, a counselor. Isolation is the enemy’s playground. You need people to walk with you, to remind you of truth when the lies feel overwhelming.

And about the sin you’re struggling with, we don’t know what it is, but we know this: God’s grace is greater. 1 John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." You don’t have to clean yourself up before you come to Him. Come as you are, broken and weary, and let Him do the work. But also, take practical steps. If this is a struggle with lust, cut off the sources. If it’s anger, seek accountability. If it’s addiction, get help. God’s power is made perfect in our weakness, but that doesn’t mean we sit back and do nothing. We fight, we run, we flee temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Most importantly, you must know that salvation and relationship with God are only found in Jesus Christ. John 14:6 says, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'" Acts 4:12 declares, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" If you have never surrendered your life to Christ, or if you’ve wandered away, now is the time. Repentance isn’t about being perfect, it’s about turning away from sin and turning toward Jesus. It’s about saying, "I can’t do this on my own. I need You."

We are praying for you right now, with tears and with faith. Father God, we lift up this precious soul to You. You see their pain, their exhaustion, their despair. You know the battles they’re fighting, the lies they’re believing. Lord, break through the silence. Let them feel Your presence like never before. Remind them that they are not alone, that You are near to the brokenhearted. Forgive their sins, wash them clean, and set their feet on solid ground. Give them the strength to keep going, to hold on, to fight another day. Surround them with people who will speak truth, who will love them, who will walk with them. And if they’ve never truly surrendered to You, draw them now. Let them know that Your grace is sufficient, that Your love never fails. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Please, don’t give up. You are loved more than you know. Reach out to someone today, don’t carry this alone. And keep crying out to God. He is listening. He is working. And He will answer.

We hear how much pain you are in right now, and we are so sorry it feels this heavy. Thank you for being honest and for crying out -- that takes more strength than you may realize.

What you are describing matters, and you do not need to manage it alone. We know it is hard to believe right now, but feeling deserted does not mean you have been abandoned. The sheer desperation in your words tells us part of you still wants life, even if it is only a flicker. Hold onto that.

A few concrete things we would gently encourage: First, let someone nearby know what is happening tonight -- a friend, a family member, a neighbor. You do not need to have the right words; just letting another human being sit with you can loosen despair's grip a little. Second, we would urge you to reach out to a trusted pastor or a Christian counselor who can help carry this when it feels too heavy to lift yourself. When prayer feels empty and God feels silent, we still need voices around us to remind us of what is true.

You called yourself worthless, but no one who cries out for help is worthless. You matter enough for us to stop and pray for you right now.

Lord Jesus, meet this person in the deep darkness they are in. When they cannot feel You, be their hidden anchor. Guard their life tonight and bring one steady, caring voice into their path -- someone who will listen without preaching and stay close without tiring. Give them courage to take the smallest next step toward help. And in time, restore their hope. Amen.

You cry, “Help! I feel deserted. I have prayed consistently and nothing happens.” Know this: Brethren must not take delays in prayer for denial. God's long-dated bills will be punctually honored. Unanswered petitions are not unheard. God keeps a file for our prayers. Do not suffer Satan to shake your confidence in the God of truth by pointing to unanswered prayers.

Yet ask honestly: Is there some secret sin which keeps back the blessing? Do you not think that unanswered prayers are often a Fatherly chastisement for our offenses? God does, as it were, say to us, “Search and look.” I think this is one great reason for unanswered prayer, namely, that it is a chastisement for sin committed or an admonition against sin harbored. Sometimes there may be great sin in the prayer itself. Are not our greatest sins often connected with our holiest things? These are all nothing and naughty prayers unless God touch them and give them life.

But do not imagine that God is indifferent to sin. God is not indifferent to sin. God hates sin now and always. He is stirred with righteous indignation against every kind of evil. If He has turned to be your enemy and fights against you, it is a solemn thing. Say to Him, “Show me why You contend with me.” Is not sin the curse of your sorrow? I beseech you, do not trifle with this matter. It is a very solemn thing to have God fighting against you. But do not despair.

At other times our hearts have been broken, because we felt as if we could not feel, and our only prayer was, “God forgive us that we cannot pray.” Yet, notwithstanding, God has heard this inward groaning of spirit. The fact is, that sincere prayer may often be very feeble to us, but it is always acceptable to God. So take courage: He is strengthening your muscles and tendons, sinews and power by the arduous exercise of unanswered prayer that you may be finely useful in the future.

And consider this: God condemned sin by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh. The remembrance of His holy, harmless life condemns sin in our conscience, but the way of pardon is clear. When the thought of sin becomes clear, the thought of pardon is not at first so clear. Sin is great and for that reason the sinner thinks it cannot be pardoned, as if he measured the Lord by his sin. But because God is infinitely superior to man, He can abundantly pardon. Breathe a prayer to Him now. Look to Jesus with the eye of faith at once. Pardon is given as quick as a lightning flash. The sin is there! The sin is gone! The dead soul lives!

Without faith it is impossible to please God. It is only by faith that we can recognize God, approach Him, speak to Him. Your thought may be that salvation is to be won through months or years of labor and prayer. But being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Abram was not justified by works, nor by ceremonies, nor partly by works and partly by faith, but by his faith in the divine promise. So you, too, must look away from yourself to the promise.

Therefore set your face unto the Lord God to seek by prayer and supplication. That setting of the face is expressive of resolute purpose, firm determination, undivided attention, and fixed resolute perseverance. If there are but a few who are unwavering, and will not be baulked by difficulties or turned back by disappointments, as sure as God is God, He will hear the prayers of such. The just shall live by faith, not by sight, not by feeling. Trust in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him.
