help healing Lord know

You cry out for help, and your tears fall before the Lord who sees every secret sorrow. Do not be ashamed of these tears, for they are the language of a soul that still clings to life even while death whispers lies. But when you say, “I want to die,” you listen to the enemy who would snuff out the image of God. No one would be fine without you; that is a dark falsehood born from a weary heart. Your life is not your own to throw away, it belongs to the One who made you and who knows your every breath.

You reach for wine, hoping it will dull the ache. But hear this plain truth: that cup is a deceiver. It promises comfort and delivers only a self-chosen madness. Do not make your mouth and eyes mere sewers, pouring in what pollutes and coarsens the soul. The brief false peace it brings only deepens the pit afterward. You have new medicine for your anxiety; let that be used with sobriety and prayer. Do not mix it with the very thing that unravels your reason and invites darker thoughts.

You hate yourself, you cry that you are no good. Yet what good was Peter when he denied his Lord three times, swearing he knew nothing of Him? All his bravado crumbled, and he fell into a pit of cowardice and bitter weeping. But look at Christ’s tender care: even bound and beaten, He turned and looked upon Peter, not with wrath, but with love that launched him into a sea of healing tears. That same Lord looks upon you now, not to condemn, but to raise you up. Do not trust in your own strength; it has already failed you. Commit all to Him who alone can sustain you.

Cast off the weight of this anxious turmoil. Do you not recall that God has fed you from your youth? Will He not care for you now? Even Jonah, inside the belly of the beast, in the dark and the heat, thought himself lost. By all reasoning it was impossible to survive, yet he prayed, and God heard him from the depths. What is impossible to your crushed spirit is perfectly possible to the One who made the sea and the dry land.

Do not seek hatred for nothing, not even hatred of yourself. That is a useless burden you were never meant to carry. The world may hate those who seek virtue, but this self-hatred is not from God. Lay it down. Pick up instead the cry of the Psalmist: “Help me, O Lord my God.” Let your tears be not of despair alone but of repentance and trust. The way back begins with one small step: put away the wine that addles the soul, continue the medicine with thanksgiving, and pour out your heart in honest prayer. Do not demand to know what you are doing here. Instead, simply do the next right thing: pray, eat, sleep, and seek the fellowship of the Church. The Lord is not finished with you yet.

You are crying out with everything inside you, and the Lord hears every word. That kind of honesty is not a failure, it is the beginning of real help. When you say you hate yourself and feel like everything would be better without you, that is not the truth. It is the sound of a person who has been trying desperately to make life work by sheer effort and has run out of strength. That place of total exhaustion is exactly where God meets us.

All the self-help and escape routes, from new pills to a glass of wine, can never quiet the deeper storm. Solomon chased every pleasure and achievement under the sun and ended up calling it all empty, a chasing after wind. Our own attempts to fix what is broken inside just lead to deeper despair. That is not because you are worthless, but because you were never designed to carry this burden alone. A grape branch cannot be used to build a house or drive a nail; it is good for exactly one thing, abiding in the vine and bearing fruit. Apart from that connection, it is only fit for the fire. You are not meant to produce life from yourself.

The hatred you feel toward yourself is part of that self-effort gone wrong. The apostle Paul came to the same cliff. He cried out, “O wretched man that I am!” but then he stopped asking how to improve himself and instead asked, “Who will deliver me?” That shift changes everything. You have been trying to answer the who with pills and wine and willpower, but none of them can take away the inward boiling or the weight of anxiety. They cannot love the hatred out of you. Only a Person can deliver you, and His name is Jesus.

When Jesus went to the cross, He carried not only the world’s sin but also every ounce of self-loathing, every twisted thought, every moment of despair. He did that so you would not have to let hatred eat you alive. He offers a trade: your self-governed life for His life in you by the Spirit. That is the new life Paul describes in Romans chapter 8, where the Spirit takes over and does what no self-help program could ever do. The inner steam, the panic, the feeling that you cannot take it anymore can be replaced by a peace that does not make sense.

You said you want to live. That is the Spirit’s pull already at work. Let go of the lie that everyone would be fine without you. God has a purpose for your days, and it is not to prove your worth by trying harder. Put down the wine, not because you need to clean yourself up first, but because it only numbs you from the real help that is calling you right now. Cry out again, but this time lean your whole weight on Jesus: “Lord, I can’t do this. Deliver me. Take over.” His love is not like the self-centered love that turns to hatred when things get hard. It is a giving, self-sacrificing love that covers all your sin and all your shame. You are not hated; you are deeply loved. Let that love break through, and let His Spirit carry you into a hope that will not drown.
