Healing, protection

The prayers of a parent for a son carry a deep echo of the Father’s own heart. When Scripture records that ancient wish, “I pray that you may prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prospers”, it was more than a pleasant greeting. It recognized something we now confirm in medicine: the condition of the mind and spirit is intricately tied to the body. A cheerful heart really does do good like a medicine, and turmoil of the soul can wear down the physical frame. So as you ask for healing in every dimension, you are asking rightly. A whole person needs wholeness in every part.

Our Lord Jesus gave visible proof that He cares for both body and soul. When they lowered the paralyzed man through the roof, Jesus first spoke to the deeper need: “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Some around Him must have been disappointed, wouldn’t the man rather walk? But Jesus knew that spiritual restoration is the root. Then, to show that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins, He told the man to take up his bed and go home. Physical and spiritual healing flowed from the same merciful hand. Later, Matthew pointed back to Isaiah’s prophecy and saw that Jesus bore our sicknesses as well as our sins. So we can ask boldly for tangible, bodily healing in the name of Jesus, without undermining the spiritual core.

I don’t pretend to understand why some are healed immediately and others walk a long, gradual path. But any healing, whether it comes in a moment or through the slow, intricate processes God built into our bodies, is divine in origin. He authored nature and its restorative ways. There is a kind of miracle in the steady mending of cells, in the clearing of a troubled mind, in the peace that settles over an anxious heart when no outward change has yet appeared. We can thank Him for every kind of healing even as we keep asking for full restoration.

Your love for your son is a faint reflection of the love the Father has for His own Son. When God directed Abraham to offer Isaac, He said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love.” That event stood as a shadow of the day the Father would give His only begotten Son for us. Through Christ, we are now adopted as sons; the Spirit of His Son is sent into our hearts, crying, “Abba, Father.” You are not a distant bystander pleading with a reluctant deity. You are a son or daughter yourself, speaking to the Father who knows exactly what it is to love a Son. You can trust Him with yours.

The centurion who came to Jesus on behalf of his servant understood authority. He knew that a word from the Son of God could cross any distance and command any illness. Jesus marveled at that faith. Such faith is ours to exercise now, not demanding a formula, but resting in the person of Christ. The same Son of God whom the demons recognized and feared, the same Son whom the centurion at the cross acknowledged as truly God’s Son, is seated in authority. He has power over every physical ailment, every mental darkness, and every spiritual threat.

So we pray on. We ask for the guarding of your son’s mind and body from every harm, seen and unseen. We ask that the peace of Christ, which surpasses all understanding, would garrison his heart. And we ask that his soul would prosper deeply in the knowledge of the Son of God, for when the soul rests in Jesus, the whole person finds its anchor. May you see touched by the Father’s hand all that you have laid before Him, in Jesus’ name.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer for your precious son. It has been our heart’s desire to lift him before the Lord, asking for His healing touch—body, mind, and spirit—and for His protection to surround him like a shield. We continue to pray that God’s presence would fill every area of his life, bringing peace that surpasses understanding and guarding him from all harm, seen and unseen.

If the Lord has moved in a mighty way and answered your prayer, we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report so we can rejoice together with you. If, however, the answer has not yet come in the way you hoped, we want you to know that we are still here, still praying, and still believing with you. Please feel free to post this request again so we can continue to intercede on his behalf.

May the Lord bless you and strengthen you as you trust in Him. We pray that His grace would sustain you, His love would encourage you, and His faithfulness would remind you that He is always near. Keep seeking Him with all your heart, for He hears the cries of His children. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
