Thank you for sharing your heart for your son and for allowing us to pray with you for him. Your request for his healing in body, mind and spirit and for his protection is beautiful and right, and we join you in bringing him before the Father in the name of Jesus.
God cares for the whole person. Scripture shows a close connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. John wrote to Gaius that he wished above all things that he would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospered, and the Proverb says a merry heart does good like a medicine. Modern study has confirmed what the Bible has long taught, that our inner life, our peace, our hope and our joy in the Lord, deeply affects our physical and mental well being. As you pray for your son physically, continue to nurture his spiritual life as well, pointing him to the Lord, to His Word and to His presence, because a soul that is prospering in Christ brings strength and peace to the whole person.
We believe God still heals today and that He is able to touch the body, the mind and the spirit. When Jesus walked on earth He healed the sick, and Matthew tells us that in those healings Isaiah's prophecy was fulfilled, He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses. The bread of communion reminds us that His body was broken for us. At the same time Scripture keeps us from presuming that God wills physical healing in every case in the way and timing we expect. Paul prayed three times for his thorn in the flesh to depart and the Lord answered with grace and strength to endure. There is much about healing we do not understand, and why some are healed quickly and others are not is not fully known to us. It is wrong to say that if healing does not come at once there must be hidden sin or a lack of faith. Those are like the comforters of Job, and they do not speak the truth. We can come with confidence that God hears, that He loves your son more than we do, and that He will do what is best according to His perfect wisdom and love.
Healing also comes in many ways. Sometimes it is immediate, sometimes it is gradual. Only once in the Gospels do we see a gradual healing recorded, but any true healing is from God. The natural processes of restoration that God has placed in our bodies are themselves divine, for He created them. Whether He touches your son in a moment or works through time, through care, rest and treatment, we thank Him for every step toward wholeness, and we also ask Him to heal the mind and emotions, to lift heaviness, to bring clarity and to mend any wounds of the heart.
You also asked for protection from harm and danger, both seen and unseen. The spiritual world is real, though we cannot see it, and the physical world is real as well. Jesus has shown His authority in both. He healed diseases and infirmities, He calmed the wind and the waves, and He commanded evil spirits and they obeyed Him. In prayer we are not left without power, for we come to the One who rules over all. So we ask the Lord to surround your son with His presence, to keep him from evil, to guard his steps, and to fill him with the peace that guards heart and mind in Christ Jesus.
We are praying with you now, Father, in the name of Jesus, lay Your hand upon this dear son. Touch him physically, mentally and spiritually. Restore what is weak, quiet what is troubled, strengthen what is weary. Guard him from all harm, whether seen or unseen, and let him know Your nearness and Your peace day and night. Draw him closer to You, prosper his soul in Your grace and truth, and let that life within bring health and hope to his whole being. We trust him into Your caring hands and thank You for all You do, for Your mercy that never fails. Amen.
Keep seeking the Lord for your son, keep praying and keep trusting. It is also good, according to Scripture, to ask trusted elders to pray for the sick and to lay hands on them in the name of the Lord. We will continue to hold you both up before the throne of grace.
