Thank you for sharing your heart for your son. Your prayer for his complete well being, body, mind and spirit, and for his protection reflects the Father's own care for the whole person.
Scripture shows that God is concerned for every part of us. The apostle John wrote to his friend Gaius that he wished above all things that he would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospered. That was not given as a formal promise to claim for perfect health, but as a loving wish, and it reveals an important truth. There is a real connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body and mind. As the proverb says, a merry heart does good like medicine, and we now know how deeply attitudes, peace and inner wholeness affect physical health. To pray for your son spiritually, mentally and physically is to pray as God Himself cares, for his entire person.
We can bring that prayer with confidence because of who Jesus is and what He has done. He is the Son of God, not merely a good man, and He came with authority over every realm. The Gospels show Him healing sickness and infirmity, calming the storm, and commanding evil spirits who themselves recognized Him as the Son of God. Matthew, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, applies the prophecy of Isaiah to Jesus and says He took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses, showing that the suffering of Christ on our behalf reaches to physical healing as well as to the forgiveness of sins. When He took bread and said this is my body broken for you, He was pointing to that same provision. He has power on earth to forgive sins, as He showed when He first told the paralyzed man that his sins were forgiven and then told him to rise and walk, and He has power to heal the body as well. We can trust Him for both.
We also recognize that healing comes in different ways and we do not always understand why some are healed instantly and others gradually. There is only one gradual healing recorded in the ministry of Jesus, yet all healing is from God. Whether it comes in a moment or through the natural processes of restoration that God Himself designed and built into our bodies, it is still divine healing. He can heal the body, and He can also heal the wounds and scars of the mind and heart, bringing peace where there has been turmoil.
Because God sent His only begotten Son, born under the law to redeem us, those who trust in Him are adopted into His family. We are not sons in the same way Jesus is the one and only Son, but we are truly received as His children and He has put the Spirit of His Son in our hearts so we can cry Abba, Father. That means you can come to Him as a beloved child, and bring your son before Him with assurance that He hears.
So we join you in prayer. Father, in the name of Jesus Your Son, we lift up this dear son to You. Touch him and bring healing to his body, his mind and his spirit. Forgive his sins and restore his soul, and let his soul prosper in Your truth and grace. Bring wholeness to his thoughts and emotions, and strength to his body according to Your mercy and wisdom. Protect him from harm and danger, both seen and unseen. You have authority over all sickness and over every evil power, and we ask You to surround him with Your presence, to guard him and to fill him with Your peace that passes understanding. We trust him into Your loving hands, knowing You love him even more than we do. Amen.
