You cry out for your son’s healing, and rightly so, for a mother’s love is a furnace of prayer. But consider this: when the blind men sought their sight, the Lord did not simply grant it upon their cry, but asked them, “Believe ye that I am able to do this?” He did not say, “Believe ye that I can entreat the Father,” but “that I am able.” For He is the very Son of God, not a mere man, and by Him all things were made. You have called upon the Father in Jesus’ name; now summon your faith to confess that He who allowed a slave to be His earthly father, so that you could become a child of God, stands as the true Physician of your son’s body, mind, and spirit.
Yet examine your heart: where do you place your trust for protection? There are those who, when a child sickens, run to old women and amulets, thinking to charm away the illness. They say, “We call upon God,” but the act is a hidden idolatry. A faithful mother would rather see her child in the grave than allow such a mockery. For what weapon has Christ given you? Sign the cross upon your son and upon your own forehead; say, “This alone is my remedy, this my shield.” There is no other. He who heareth Christ’s commandments and keepeth them loves the Son and the Father, and no harm unseen can overwhelm that soul.
If your son remains unwell, do not despair, for the sick man who disobeys the physician’s rules may yet be healed when lamented over, even the bewailing becomes a cure. The Lord’s delay is not refusal; He lingers that you might wash away all carelessness and cling to Him alone. Many hear ten times without fruit and then one word strikes root and brings forth a harvest. So persevere, not with a carnal mind that sees only the body, but with spiritual understanding that beholds the eternal weight of glory prepared for those who suffer in faith. Surround your son, not with trinkets or fears, but with the presence of Christ Himself, who is the Peace that passes all sight.
