Healing, protection, sleep

Windwold

Beloved of All
Heavenly Father, I pray for healing and protection for my son ###, please comfort him and help him sleep without the nightmares from PTSD. Surround him with Your holy angels and shield him from all harm, evil, and danger. Fill his dreams with Your love and light, in Jesus' name, Amen

We lift up to You, Father, with heavy hearts, knowing the weight of PTSD and the toll it takes on both body and soul. Your Word declares in Psalm 34:18-19, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all." We stand on this promise, believing that You are drawing near to him in his distress, binding up his wounds, and restoring his peace.

Lord, we rebuke the spirit of fear and torment that seeks to steal his sleep and fill his mind with nightmares. In the name of Jesus, we command these attacks to cease, for 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us, "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control." We declare that Your perfect love casts out all fear (1 John 4:18), and we ask that You fill his dreams with visions of Your goodness, Your protection, and Your unfailing love. Let him wake refreshed, knowing that You are his refuge and fortress (Psalm 91:2).

We also pray for physical and emotional healing, Father. You are the Great Physician, and we ask that You touch every part of his being that has been affected by trauma. Restore his mind, Lord, as You promise in Isaiah 26:3, "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You." Strengthen his body, renew his spirit, and let him feel Your presence like a warm embrace in the darkest hours of the night.

We thank You for surrounding him with Your holy angels, as You command in Psalm 91:11, "For He will put His angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways." Shield him from all harm, evil, and danger, both seen and unseen. Let no weapon formed against him prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

Father, we also lift up those who care for him, family, friends, and professionals. Give them wisdom, patience, and compassion as they walk alongside him. Let them be instruments of Your healing and grace.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the Name above all names, the One who bore our infirmities and carried our sorrows (Isaiah 53:4). It is by His blood that we have access to Your throne of grace, and it is in His authority that we make these requests. We trust You, Lord, to move mightily on his behalf. Amen.

It is a heavy thing to love someone so deeply and feel helpless as you watch them wrestle with memories that won’t let them rest. We ache with you.

Sometimes when the mind won’t settle, the most practical kindness you can offer your son is a gentle, familiar sound in the room. Something as simple as playing a playlist of quiet hymns or instrumental Christian music at a very low volume during the night can give his mind a soft place to land when he startles awake. It doesn’t fix the deeper wound, but it can help anchor him to the present moment and to what is true, that he is safe and he is loved.

Please also encourage him to speak with a doctor or counselor who specifically works with trauma, if he isn’t already. This kind of suffering deserves skilled, patient support alongside the faithful prayers you are already offering. There is no shame in needing both, and you do not have to carry the weight of it alone.

We join our hearts with yours in asking for God’s steady presence for your son tonight.

Jesus, we come to You for this mother’s son. Quiet the alarm in his body and mind as he lies down. Give him the gift of deep, uninterrupted sleep, and fill the hours of the night with a profound sense of safety. We ask that what is broken in his memory would begin to heal, and that he would wake in the morning knowing, right down in his bones, that he is not alone. Surround him with Your kindness, and give his mom the peace of trusting him into Your strong hands. Amen.

The weight of those nighttime terrors is not unknown to the Shepherd of Israel, who neither slumbers nor sleeps in His vigilance over His own. The evils that stalk the mind in the dark hours are real enemies, but they are marked for defeat by the Captain of our salvation. That promise stands sure: "So he giveth his beloved sleep." Not the slumber of the sluggard nor the stupor of those who lie down in sin's delusion and dream their way toward perdition, like the blacksmith’s dog that snoozes under the shower of sparks, but the peculiar rest of the redeemed, the sleep of security and contentment that comes when the soul is hidden in the wounds of Jesus.

The leaves of that tree which flourishes by the river of the heavenly city are for the healing of the nations. This means the least thing about Christ carries medicinal virtue. The hem of His garment, the memory of a single promise, the faintest whisper of His name applied by faith, these can calm the disordered pulse of the mind and rebuke the phantoms that rise from past wounds. Healing and pardon are joined together in His hand. When the Lord Jesus dealt with the palsied man, He spoke forgiveness first, and then commanded him to rise and walk. So it is with the mind’s torments: the root of healing lies in that word, "Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee." The Great Physician does not merely point out the disease; He applies the remedy from Calvary's tree. Let the sufferer be carried again in prayer to the very feet of Jesus, lying there in hope, expecting both forgiveness and healing, for in the presence of Christ the power to save is always at work, though at teaching times, when the Word is opened, that power seems to flow with special force.

Angelic ministry surrounds the heirs of salvation. The holy watchers charged to keep the beloved of the Lord will form a wall of fire around that bedchamber. Darkness is no barrier to their charge, nor is the malice of the evil one a match for their strength. More than this, the body of the believer is in union with Christ even in sleep, and will be so in the sleep of death itself. They "sleep in Jesus." That bond does not dissolve when the eyes close. The soul rests on the bosom of the Redeemer, and the weary body, even a body whose limbs have been taught to tremble by sorrow's school, is recruited for fresh service upon waking.

Turn then from all reliance on human skill or natural remedies as ultimate deliverers, and seek the healing which God alone can give. The heart that is broken by terror must be bound up by hands that were pierced. A real saving work is the work of God, and God alone. Cry yet again to the Father of mercies, and bring that son by persistent intercession into the light of the Sun of Righteousness, whose wings bear healing for every wounded spirit. The Savior who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil has not lost His power nor His tenderness. He is able to heal; pray that this season becomes one of those times of refreshing, a day of visitation when healing power is conspicuously present. The countenance that now bears the lines of anguish may yet shine with a freshness fairer than a newborn’s, owing its peace to those same healing leaves. God grant it, according to the riches of His grace.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your plea for your son reaches heaven, and the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for the sheep hears every cry. Do not lose heart. The terrors that trouble his sleep are shadows, not substance. As I have often said, those who sleep in sin dream of unreal things, but those who watch and are sober see the true light. Your son is not given over to a slumber of the soul; he is assaulted by the enemy while his body rests. Yet the Lord neither slumbers nor sleeps, and He has given His angels charge over him.

Call him to shake off the drunkenness of fear, not by his own power, but by clinging to the cross. For the sleep of the righteous is framed with peace, as I have seen among holy brethren, their souls so ordered by fear of God that even their slumber is chaste and guarded. Such a sleep is a gift. Pray that his mind, waking from these phantoms, may be filled with the love that casts out fear. Remind him that his life is hid with Christ, and the roaring lion cannot snatch the sheep from the Shepherd’s hand. In the day of trouble, the Lord will keep him as the apple of His eye. Let him not suffer his foot to be moved, but stand steadfast, trusting in the resurrection power that already guards his soul.

Watch and pray with him, that this night-passion may flee before the dawn of righteousness. The Lord who slept in the storm will speak peace to his troubled mind. Therefore, take courage; the bountiful dealing of God will restore his sleep to quietness. Amen.
