Healing, protection, sleep

Beloved of All
Heavenly Father, I pray for healing and protection for my son ###, please comfort him and help him sleep without the nightmares from PTSD. Surround him with Your holy angels and shield him from all harm, evil, and danger. Fill his dreams with Your love and light, in Jesus' name, Amen

We join with you in lifting up your son to our Heavenly Father, the Great Physician and the Prince of Peace. Your heart for his healing, protection, and rest is deeply felt, and we stand with you in faith, believing that God hears and answers the cries of His children.

The pain of PTSD and the torment of nightmares are heavy burdens, but we know that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We declare that your son is not alone in his struggle, for the Lord is his refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). We rebuke the spirits of fear, anxiety, and torment that seek to steal his peace, for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).

We pray for complete healing, body, mind, and soul, for your son. The Lord is able to restore what has been broken and to bring beauty from ashes (Isaiah 61:3). We ask that You would touch his mind and bring healing to the wounds that manifest in his dreams. Lord, we plead the blood of Jesus over his mind, emotions, and memories, that every lie of the enemy would be replaced with Your truth. Your Word says that when we lie down, we will not be afraid, and our sleep will be sweet (Proverbs 3:24). We claim this promise for your son, Father. Let him rest in the shadow of the Almighty, where no harm can overtake him (Psalm 91:1-4).

We also pray for divine protection over him. Surround him with Your holy angels, as You have promised in Psalm 91:11-12, that they would guard him in all his ways and keep him from every form of harm. Shield him from the schemes of the enemy, who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

Father, we ask that You would fill his dreams with Your love, light, and presence. Let him experience the reality of Your nearness, even in his sleep. May he wake up refreshed, renewed, and reminded of Your faithfulness. Strengthen him during the day to walk in the victory that Christ has already won for him on the cross. Remind him that he is more than a conqueror through Him who loved us (Romans 8:37).

We also want to gently encourage you, as his parent, to continue covering him in prayer and speaking life over him. Your faith and intercession are powerful, and the Lord delights in your cries on his behalf. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Lastly, we want to remind you that it is only through the name of Jesus that we have access to the Father. There is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If your son has not yet placed his trust in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, we pray that he would come to know the love and grace of God that leads to salvation. For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).

Heavenly Father, we come before You now, united in faith, and ask for Your mighty hand to move in the life of this precious son. Heal him, protect him, and grant him the peace that only You can give. We trust in Your goodness and Your perfect timing. May Your will be done in his life, and may Your name be glorified through his testimony. In the powerful and matchless name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We hear the weary ache in these words, you've been carrying this with your son through the night watches, and that is a heavy place to stand. When someone we love is caught in the grip of traumatic memories, it can feel like we're watching a battle we can't fight for them. But you are fighting, right now, by bringing him before the God who never slumbers.

The nightmares that come with PTSD aren't just bad dreams. They're the mind's way of trying to process what it was never meant to hold, and they can leave a person exhausted and afraid to close their eyes. What your son needs most right now, besides your steady love and these faithful prayers, is a sense of safety that reaches down deeper than his conscious thoughts.

One small, practical thing that has helped others with nighttime trauma is anchoring bedtime in something grounding and predictable. That might mean playing familiar, calming Christian music softly through the night, something his mind can latch onto that has no connection to what haunts him. It's not a cure, but it can be a gentle, consistent reminder that he's not back there, he's here, and he's safe.

If these symptoms have been persistent, we would also want to gently encourage a conversation with a doctor or trauma-informed counselor. The body and brain can get stuck in a cycle of hyperarousal that sleep can't easily break on its own, and there is no shame in reaching for the kind of help God provides through skilled professionals.

We'll pray with you now.

Lord Jesus, in the quiet of this night we bring you this precious son. You know what his mind replays and what his body remembers. We ask you to stand guard over his sleep, to calm the storm inside, to quiet the alarms that keep sounding long after the danger has passed. Let your presence be so real in his room that fear cannot find a foothold. Give him deep, restful sleep that restores what the nightmares have worn down. And hold his mother close as she trusts him to your care. Amen.

The cry of a mother’s heart for her afflicted son has entered the ear of the Lord of Sabaoth. You plead for healing, for protection, for sleep unhaunted by the spectres of past trouble. Know this: the promise stands sure and immovable, “So he giveth his beloved sleep.” This is no common slumber, but the peculiar sleep of the beloved, a sleep of security where the soul rests on the bosom of its Saviour.

Why did our Lord Jesus Christ sleep in the howling storm, with the waves beating into the vessel? Because He knew that all was right. The great heart of Christ would not have rested if His own were in true danger. And this same Jesus can command the raging tempest within a man’s soul as easily as He hushed the Galilean winds. He speaks to the disordered thoughts, the terrors that flock like night-birds, and there is a great calm. His sleep in the ship is the surety of your son’s sleep in his bed.

You have asked the heavenly Father to surround him with holy angels. Full oft the bright winged seraph flaps his wing to earth, to comfort some desponding heart. These ministering spirits are charged to guard him, to stand as a shield between his mind and the fiery darts of the evil one. The nightmares are not sovereign; God is. And His Word, quickened by the Spirit, becomes an inward comfort. It is not the bare letter, but the life-giving breath that works deliverance. “This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your word has quickened me.” Even so, may the Spirit bring some choice promise to his remembrance in the night watches, so that his soul is quickened and thereby comforted.

Think not that this unseen wound is beyond the Healer’s art. The leaves of the Tree from the heavenly Paradise are for the healing of the nations. The very least thing about Christ is full of healing virtue. There is an abundance of healing power in Him, not only His fruit, but His leaves, the smallest touch from His grace, can change the life-blood, affect the spirits, and make the nature other than it was before. A glimpse of His love can purge the film from the mind’s eye and fill the dreamscape with a light more radiant than the noonday sun.

You shall forget your misery, and remember it as waters that pass away. Time is a wonderful healer, but the Comforter works a deeper cure. The blueness of the wound shall pass, and the chastisement which now seems so bitter shall be seen to have been for the cleansing of the soul. He who quickens, comforts. The roundabout way is often the straight way. God may not remove the thorn at once, but He gives the grace to sing in the midst of it, and at last to sleep with a holy contentment, satisfied with the Lord’s good will.

So comfort one another with these words. Let the dear lad rest in the knowledge that he is safe beneath the shadow of the Almighty. Neither the terror by night nor the arrow that flieth by day shall harm him, for his life is hid with Christ in God. Sleep on, in the peace which passes understanding. He giveth his beloved sleep, a sleep that truly is a sweet foretaste of that last bed in the grave, from which we shall rise to glory.
