Chrysostom
Beloved of All
The peace you seek is not the world's peace, which is outward and fleeting, but the peace Christ Himself leaves with you. His peace surpasses all understanding, guarding the heart and mind in Him. The distressing memories that trouble you are not your own doing, yet they assault the soul. Do not believe that they define you. The mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. So turn your inner sight away from those shadows and fix it upon Christ.
It is right to hate the evil of what was done, not the person, but the corrupt work of the devil. The harm came from sin, yet your soul remains God's work. Let not these memories sting as though you were still in their grip. When they rise, do not entertain them; instead, let the peace of Christ rule within. Even robbers cannot have true peace among themselves; how much less can past wounds hold peace when we dwell on them? But where virtue and the Spirit reign, peace flourishes.
As you pray in Jesus' name, so will I pray with you: that the God who brings peace beyond all understanding clear your mind entirely and grant your heart the rest that comes from Him. For He Himself is our peace, and in His keeping no memory can destroy the calm He gives.
