Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother who is seeking freedom from this struggle. Lord, You know his heart and his desire to honor You with his body and mind. We ask that You would break every chain of bondage and fill him with Your Holy Spirit, granting him the strength to resist temptation. Father, we rebuke the spirit of lust and impurity in Jesus’ name, and we declare that he is more than a conqueror through Christ who loves him (Romans 8:37). Fill him with Your peace and remind him that Your grace is sufficient for every weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). Help him to flee from sexual immorality and to pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace (2 Timothy 2:22). Surround him with godly accountability and fellowship, and let him experience the joy of walking in purity. We thank You for Your faithfulness and for the victory that is already his in Christ. The Bible says, "Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance" (Proverbs 27:17). You do not have to fight this battle alone.

Also, meditate on God’s Word. Memorize verses that speak to purity and self-control, such as 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5: "For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to control his own body in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who don’t know God." Let these truths sink deep into your heart.

Lastly, remember that God is not distant or uncaring about your struggle. He loves you deeply and desires for you to walk in freedom. The enemy may whisper lies that you’ll never overcome this, but we declare that God’s power is greater than any temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13). Keep pressing into Him, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9). You are a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), and He is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6).

Masturbation arises from the puddle of secret sin, born of lust, and when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death. That is the pedigree of sin, it is born of lust, and it brings forth death. Do not pretend that you can wallow in the mire of secret sin and yet belong to Christ, for that cannot be.

Yet the healing leaves of the tree of life are for you. There is enough in Christ for every sin-sick sinner. The costly balm of His Atonement has lost none of its power. He heals not only the guilt of sin but also the power of sin. Sin may be, in your case, so mighty that like a whirlwind it hurries you away at its pleasure, but Jesus can touch you and make sin depart in a moment. The flat of forgiveness comes in a single sentence, and with it, spiritual disease receives its deathblow.

Bring this leprous habit beneath His healing touch. Let there be a full confession that makes a clean breast of every sin before the face of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is a wondrous power in the penitent eye. The heart broken on account of sin is the heart which God peculiarly delights to heal. He binds up the wounds which sin itself has made. Waste no time in applying to the Physician of souls. Say to Him, "Jesus! Master! Hear my cry! Save me, heal me with a word."

This is the way in which the great Sacrifice for sin leads us to make a slaughter of sin. Christ's death for sin works in us a death to sin. When He puts sin away for us, we are moved to put sin away from us. Sin’s condemning power is gone, and its charming power withers before the sight of Him crucified for us. Go, and sin no more. The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing beneath His wings, and you shall find that His Spirit breaks the habit and satisfies the soul with a better thirst. God help you so to hear, and so to live.

The hand groping for a fleeting pleasure testifies not to a life of freedom, but to a body that is yet dead because of sin. For that which is born of the flesh is flesh. When you ask whether this is a sin, you already feel the prick of that two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. The act itself uses the body in a way contrary to its design, grasping for the fruit of marriage while forsaking its root. It is a deed born of the flesh, and it wages war against the soul.

Yet, do not let this revelation lead you to the paralysis of despair. The history of the stumbling of the saints, and even of the great David, is set before us not that we should behold them fallen, but that we should admire them risen and thereby learn how we ourselves might arise. The very enormity of a sin is recorded so that the cure may be plainly known. Sin did not win the final victory. Where did it abound? Grace did much more abound. The law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus is given to make us free from the law of sin and death.

Consider the great blessing that comes from having the Spirit. What does the Apostle declare? That if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. This is not an idle word. It does not mean the body is merely inactive toward sin, but that it is dead to it. For where there is no sin, death is not to be seen; but where death is not to be seen, life is indissoluble. The grace of the Spirit puts a stop to this grievous war, slaying sin within you and making your race for the crown light to you, with abundant help poured out.

Therefore, turn your mind from the grave to the Remedy. Do not think you must simply grit your teeth and master this as if you were without a Comforter. The righteousness the Law required is made good to us in Christ, for those who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. The way of victory is not merely to stop a motion of the hand, but to mortify the deeds of the body by the Spirit. Can a man hold the wind? Even so, the operations of the Spirit cannot be bound by the limits of your bodily generation. He blows where He lists, and He alone can breathe into your mortal frame a desire that eclipses the pull of the flesh.

Your prayer will join mine now. We will not merely pray for a resisting spirit, but for a triumphant one. Let us ask that the very Comforter possess that faculty of desire so that your body, with respect to the working of this sin, becomes in no way different from those that lie silent on a bier. We pray for the indwelling of Christ, for where the Spirit is, Christ is also. And with Christ, there is the ease of the race, the death of the viciousness, and a life that yields not to death anymore. Let us call upon the faithful God, who does not quench the smoking flax, to grant you this overcoming life in Jesus Christ. Amen.

Paul admitted that he would not have known what it was to covet, to have a strong inner desire, if the law had not said, "Thou shalt not covet." Before that, he thought only the outward action was wrong. But the commandment exposed that the desire itself misses the mark of God's holiness. That is sin, and it's rooted in the sinful nature we all inherit from Adam. None of us can claim we have no such nature without deceiving ourselves.

The struggle you feel is real, and many people find themselves caught in patterns they wish they could break. The spirit can be willing, yet the flesh is weak. But this isn't cause for hopelessness. It's meant to bring you to the end of self-reformation, so you can look fully to Christ. He knew no sin, yet God made Him to be sin for us, that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. On the cross, He bore every impure thought and every fall into temptation, putting them away completely. There is no sin that His blood has not atoned for, and the only sin that can ultimately condemn you is refusing to believe in Him.

Because you are in Christ, the promise stands firm: sin shall not have dominion over you. You are not under law but under grace. That doesn't mean you'll never feel the pull, but it does mean you are no longer a slave to it. You can yield your body to God as an instrument of righteousness rather than to disobedience. The power to overcome isn't a separate spirit you must beg for; it is the Holy Spirit Himself living in you, enabling you to put to death the deeds of the body. As you abide in Jesus, you will not practice sin as a settled pattern of life.

Let God's Word become your strength. Hide it in your heart, as David did, so you might not sin against Him. Fill your mind with truth about your identity in Christ and His call to purity. When you fail, don't believe the lie that grace is permission to continue; rather, let that same grace teach you to say no to ungodly lusts.

I will indeed pray for you now. Father, thank You that Your grace abounds far beyond any sin. I ask You to let this child of Yours experience the freedom Jesus purchased. Strengthen their inner being by Your Spirit to flee temptation and to walk in purity. Let them know decisively that sin no longer rules them, for they have died with Christ and been raised to new life. May Your Word dwell richly within them, keeping them from falling. Remember, you are dead to sin and alive to God. Let deliverance flow from that truth.
