Disciple of Prayer
Please pray for my son ###. ### worked so hard to finish college and earn his bachelor’s degree. He found a job away from home and is extremely lonely. He has not been able to meet people in his current environment as most are much older and married. Additionally it’s a small town and very cliquish and not welcoming to new comers. Please pray for him to meet and make new friends and find a nice girl. I have been praying in Jesus’ name daily but it’s been a year and nothing has improved. He is now starting to have panic attacks and depression. Thank you all for your prayers.

We join you in lifting up your son before the throne of grace and we thank you for faithfully praying daily in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. You have done exactly what Scripture calls us to do and we encourage you not to grow weary. Galatians 6:9 says, Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we do not give up. Even when a year has passed with no visible change, God hears every prayer and His timing is perfect, though it is often not our timing.

We understand the deep ache of loneliness your son is experiencing. He has worked diligently to complete his education and to step into adulthood, and now he finds himself isolated in a place that feels unwelcoming. God sees his loneliness and cares deeply. Psalm 68:6 says, God sets the lonely in families. And Psalm 34:18 reminds us, Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. The Lord does not intend for us to walk alone. Hebrews 10:25 exhorts us, not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another. We pray your son will be led to a faithful, Bible-believing church where he can not only hear the Word preached but find true fellowship, service, and community. In a small and cliquish town, a church family can become the family God provides. Proverbs 18:24 says, there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother, and we pray God will provide that kind of godly friendship for him, even one or two faithful friends who will encourage him in Christ.

We also lift up his struggle with panic attacks and depression. These are heavy burdens and the Lord invites us to bring them to Him. Philippians 4:6-7 says, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. 1 Peter 5:7 says, casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. We encourage your son to cast every anxious thought on the Lord, to be open with you and with mature believers about what he is facing, and to seek wise biblical counsel and, if needed, godly medical help as well. God is not disappointed in him for feeling this way, He draws near to comfort and to heal.

We rejoice that you are praying for him to find a nice girl, and we join you in praying that God will bring a godly wife into his life in His perfect time. Genesis 2:18 says, Yahweh God said, It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make him a helper comparable to him. We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman designed by God, and we pray your son will pursue courtship with the goal of marriage to a fellow believer in Christ. 2 Corinthians 6:14 reminds us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, so we pray for a wife who loves Jesus above all else. We also encourage him to pursue this relationship in purity, honoring God with his body, for Scripture teaches that sex outside of marriage is fornication and God calls His children to flee from it and to keep the marriage bed holy. A courtship that honors Christ from the beginning lays a foundation for a marriage that honors Christ for a lifetime.

We pray together for him now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus and lift up this dear son to You. You know his name, his address, his loneliness, and every anxious thought. Lord, surround him with Your presence and let him know he is never alone, for You have promised to never leave nor forsake Your children. Heal his heart from depression and calm his spirit when panic rises, and fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Lead him to a church where he will be welcomed, discipled, and befriended, and open doors for genuine, encouraging friendships with other young men who love You. Provide opportunities for fellowship and service where he can be known and can know others. And in Your perfect timing, Lord, bring into his life a godly young woman who loves You wholeheartedly, that they may court with purity and purpose toward a Christ-centered marriage. Strengthen his mother as she waits and intercedes, renew her hope, and help them both to trust Your good and sovereign hand. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our peace, amen.

We have been holding you and your son in our thoughts. A year of praying daily while watching him struggle far from home is a long road, and your faithful love for him comes through so clearly. Finishing college and starting a first job away from family is a big accomplishment, and it is understandable that a small town where most people are older and already settled would feel lonely and closed off for a young newcomer.

We know added worry has come as you have noticed panic attacks and discouragement. When those kinds of symptoms appear, it is wise to have caring professional support alongside prayer, so we would gently encourage you to talk with him about seeing his primary care doctor or a counselor soon, someone who can listen well and help assess what he is experiencing and what support might help.

For friendship, steady proximity often matters more than we expect. One regular place where he is seen week after week, like a local church gathering or a small service opportunity or community group that fits his interests, can slowly create the familiarity that turns into real connection. Even one consistent community can ease that sense of being on the outside.

Father, we lift this son to You and ask for Your nearness to him in his loneliness. Give him daily strength, calm in moments of panic, and wise, caring people around him. Guide his mother with wisdom and peace as she loves him from a distance. Lead him step by step as You will, in Jesus name, amen.

We have heard your burden for your son and we join you in prayer before the throne of grace for him. To see a son labor faithfully to finish his studies and then go forth to a strange town where the welcome is cold and companions are few is a sore trial for a parent's heart, and more so for the young man himself. Your year of daily prayer in the name of Jesus has not been unheard, though the answer tarries and the weight has grown heavier into panic and depression.

You should know that our Lord Jesus understands this loneliness most intimately. He was left alone just when as Man He most needed human sympathy, forsaken by friends in the hour of His sorrow. There are sorrows in which coarse minds feel little, but tender hearts feel the cutting of friendlessness deeply. And there is another loneliness which belongs to Christians in deep soul conflict, when faith must fight for its very existence. Your son is not alone in feeling alone. The Savior who was made the Sin Bearer and left alone for our sake now lives to be a present friend to those who trust Him.

When panic comes there is great alarm among the timid, and the heart cries, what will happen now. And when depression of spirit comes, the soul is tempted to say in haste, I am cut off. But it is not so. Though he may be cut off from the esteem of men through being a stranger, and cut off from the friendship of those who might have welcomed him, he is not cut off from God. The Lord still gathers the outcasts and He knows how to give good cheer to those who are cast down. The cold shoulder of a cliquish place is painful, for separations and hard treatment are often the portion of those who must dwell among strangers, yet the Lord sees and His tender love and gracious care have not failed.

We pray that your son will find his first and deepest friendship in Christ Himself, who proved His friendship by laying down His life for His friends. There is a mutual friendship between Christ and the believer which is kept alive by communion. Jesus reveals Himself to His people and His people tell out their hearts to Jesus, by the Word and by prayer, and by obedience to what He commands. Obedience is the pathway of friendship with Christ, and it is there that steadfast hope is found when the mind is assailed by fear.

We also pray that the Lord in His mercy will provide for your son what you have asked according to His good will, true friends and, in His perfect timing, a godly wife. We ask not for a mere companionship but for that which honors God, a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman as Scripture teaches, with purity and faithfulness belonging within it. We pray that He will guide your son to a faithful local church where the Word of God is preached and where fellowship is warm, for it is there that lasting friendships are most often formed, and a helpmeet who loves Christ may be found. We pray too that he will be kept from seeking comfort in ways that would dishonor the Lord or wound his own soul.

For his panic and depression, we pray the Lord will grant him peace and lift the heaviness, and give him wisdom to seek godly counsel and help from pastors and, as needed, from those skilled to care for such afflictions, while he casts all his care upon Christ who cares for him. May he know that salvation and comfort are in Jesus Christ alone, and that the Truth as it is in Jesus shall not suffer loss but shall be made more triumphant even through this trial.

We will continue to pray with you.

O Lord our God, look in mercy upon this young man who is lonely and cast down. Thou who didst gather the outcasts and who knowest what it is to be left alone, draw near to him and reveal Thyself as his friend. Quiet his panic, lift his depression, and grant him daily communion with Christ. Provide for him faithful friends who love Thy name and, if it be Thy will, a godly wife to walk with him in purity and faith within holy marriage. Keep him in Thy ways and teach him obedience, and let him see that he is not cut off from Thee. Hear our prayer in the name of Jesus Christ our only Savior. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
