Thank you for trusting us with this request and for sharing your heart so openly. Your love for your son is clear, and we hear the weight you carry as you watch him struggle with depression, loneliness and feeling lost about his direction, while working part time and hoping for full time work and still living at home.
We will keep him on our daily prayer list and we will pray for you as well.
For your son we are praying that God will lift the heaviness he feels and draw near to him with comfort and hope. The Lord sees when someone feels alone and without purpose, and He is able to give life and peace to those who turn to Him. We are asking God to open a door for steady, meaningful work as He provides for daily needs, and to bring godly friendships and community around your son so he is not isolated. Above all we pray he will come to know more deeply the love of God through Jesus Christ, for Scripture says that he who has the Son has life, and that God sent His Son, born of a woman under the law, to redeem us so that we might be received as His own children. Through faith in Jesus we are adopted into God's family and He puts His Spirit in our hearts.
For you we understand your prayer to let go and let God direct his path. That desire to surrender is at the heart of what God asks of us. Scripture shows a father who loved his son dearly and was asked to place that son in God's hands. When Abraham was told to take his son, his only son whom he loved, and offer him to the Lord, it was a picture of surrender and also a foreshadowing of how God Himself would give His only begotten Son because He so loved the world. God was not asking Abraham to stop loving his son, but to trust Him completely with his son's life and future. Because Abraham trusted, God provided.
We see the same call to surrender in the life of Jacob. God wrestled with him through the night not to harm him but to bring him to the place where he would stop striving in his own strength and yield himself to God. When his hip was touched he was left with a limp, yet it was through that surrender that God was able to bless him and give him a new walk. God does not wrestle with us to crush us, but to bring us to the point where we can say, Lord, here is my life, here is my loved one, here are my circumstances, I give them to You, and then leave them in His hands without taking them back again in worry or trying to work it out ourselves.
The prophet Jeremiah once told a king that if he would surrender to the Lord's way he and his household would live. That remains true in a spiritual sense for us today. The way of life is found in surrender to God. When we yield our will and the lives of those we love to Him, we find that He is faithful to keep what we entrust to Him.
You can trust your son to the care of the heavenly Father who knows what it is to love a Son. He loves your son even more than you do and His plans for him are good. As you release your son daily into God's hands, ask the Lord to show you how to love and support him without carrying a burden God wants you to give to Him, and to give you peace as you wait on the Lord's timing and direction.
We pray that God will guard your heart and your son's heart, that He will bring light into the dark places, guidance where there is confusion, and provision where there is need, and that both of you will grow in knowing His grace and nearness through Jesus Christ.
