We join you in lifting up your ex before the Lord and we are grateful for your compassionate heart that desires his salvation and wellbeing even after your relationship has ended. It is a reflection of God's love to pray for those who were once close to us, and we stand with you in asking for God's mercy and transforming power in his life.
We pray first for his salvation, for this is the greatest need any person has. Scripture tells us that God desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth 1 Timothy 2:4 and that the Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance 2 Peter 3:9. We ask God to open his eyes to his need for Christ, to soften his heart and draw him to Jesus, for we know that Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. We pray that God will give him a new heart, and put a new spirit within him, taking away the stony heart and giving him a heart of flesh Ezekiel 36:26.
We also bring his serious and life threatening health problems before the Great Physician. We know that God is able to heal and that His will is perfect. We pray He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3 and that as He has promised, I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh Jeremiah 30:17. We pray the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up James 5:15, according to God's perfect will and for His glory, and that even in suffering God would use these health trials as a wake up call to bring him to repentance and to turn from dysfunctional and destructive ways. We pray God will grant him clarity to see the consequences of his behavior and the grace to walk in repentance and self control.
We lift up his trauma and emotional and behavioral struggles to the Lord as well. So many wounds of the heart and mind need the healing only Christ can bring. We pray God will heal him from past trauma and renew his mind, helping him to put off old patterns and walk in wholeness. We trust that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose Romans 8:28, and we ask God to work even these painful things for his good and for his salvation.
We join you in praying for his loved ones as well, that God would draw each of them to salvation and surround them with His protection and care.
We encourage you as you continue to pray for him to guard your own heart and maintain godly boundaries. Your love and intercession for your ex is Christlike, but we encourage you to release any thought of reconciliation outside of God's clear leading toward a committed marriage between a man and a woman who are both believers in Christ. Courtship should always be with the goal of a God honoring marriage, and we pray you will entrust this man fully to God's hands while you seek God's will for your own life and future spouse. We pray you will find peace in knowing you have placed him in the Lord's care.
We pray together now, Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this man to You. Lord, have mercy on him in his health crisis and lay Your healing hand upon his body according to Your will. Heal his heart from trauma and deliver him from emotional and behavioral bondage. Give him a divine wake up call that he cannot ignore, open his eyes to his sin and his need for a Savior, and draw him to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Save him, Lord, and make him a new creation. We also lift up his loved ones, that they too would come to know You and walk in Your truth and that You would keep them in Your care. Give our dear sister who is praying peace and wisdom, help her to trust You fully and to rest in Your sovereign goodness. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, amen.
