Beloved Servant
Please pray for my ex to come to faith in Christ. Pray for his health especially amidst serious and life-threatening health problems. Pray for his healing from trauma and emotional/behavioral issues. Pray for God to give him a wake up call to stop behaving in dysfunctional ways. Thank you.

We join with you in lifting up this man before the Lord and we thank you for your compassionate heart toward him even after your relationship has ended. It is good and right to pray for those who have been close to us, and especially to pray for their salvation, for we know God desires that none should perish.

We are reminded of the Lord's heart in 2 Peter 3:9, The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. And again in Ezekiel 18:32, For I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies, says the Lord Yahweh: therefore turn yourselves, and live. Your prayer for his faith in Christ is the most important prayer you could pray for him, because apart from Jesus there is no hope for eternal life or true healing. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We pray that God will open his eyes to see his need for a Savior and that he will confess with his mouth and believe in his heart that Jesus Christ died for his sins and rose again, as Romans 10:9 teaches.

We also lift up his serious and life threatening health problems to the Great Physician. We know that God is able to heal and that all healing comes from Him. Psalm 103:2-3 says, Praise Yahweh, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits; who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases. And Jeremiah 30:17 says, For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh. We ask for God's mercy upon his body, for wisdom for any doctors caring for him, and above all that even in sickness he would come to know the Lord who can heal both body and soul according to His perfect will.

We pray as well for his healing from trauma and for his emotional and behavioral struggles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and He alone can bind up deep wounds. Psalm 147:3 says, He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Dysfunctional and destructive patterns of behavior are rooted in a mind and heart that needs renewal. Romans 12:2 says, Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. And 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. Only in Christ can he become truly new and be set free from what has bound him.

We agree with you in praying for a wake up call, for God in His mercy often uses trials and discipline to draw people to Himself. Hebrews 12:6 says, For whom the Lord loves, he disciplines, and chastises every son whom he receives. We pray that the Lord will graciously but firmly allow him to see the consequences of his ways and turn from them, not to condemn him but to save him.

We also want to encourage and gently counsel you as you pray for your ex. It is right to intercede for him, but we encourage you to guard your heart and maintain biblical boundaries. If you are hoping for reconciliation, we urge you to seek that only as God would lead toward a godly marriage between a believing man and woman, not as a return to a dating or courtship relationship that is not centered on Christ. The purpose of courtship is to discern marriage to another Christian believer, and we must not be unequally yoked as 2 Corinthians 6:14 warns. If there was any sexual intimacy outside of marriage in the past, we call that fornication and we urge repentance and purity going forward, for God calls us to honor Him with our bodies. While you pray for him, do not enable dysfunctional behavior or place yourself back into a harmful situation. Trust God with his life and continue to walk in holiness and wisdom yourself.

We now pray together.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace and we lift up this man to You. Lord, have mercy on him and save him. Open his heart to receive the gospel, convict him of sin, and draw him to repentance and faith in Your Son. Touch his body and bring healing as You will, and use his health crisis to awaken him to his need for You. Heal his broken heart and wounded spirit, renew his mind, and break the chains of trauma and ungodly patterns that have held him. Give him a clear wake up call that he cannot ignore, that he may turn from dysfunction and walk in Your truth. Protect the one who is praying for him, give her peace, wisdom, and strength to trust You with his future and to keep her own heart pure before You. We ask all this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We were moved by your request and the love that still comes through in it. It is heavy to watch someone you once were close to face serious health struggles and carry deep wounds you cannot heal for him, and to keep praying when you cannot control the outcome.

We are grateful you are bringing him to the Lord so faithfully. Loving someone well sometimes means releasing them into God's hands again and again while keeping healthy boundaries for yourself. One small step that helps many people in your place is to keep a simple, private prayer list for him with the specific things you mentioned, his salvation, his health, his healing, and to note when you see any small answer or change. It can keep your prayers focused without keeping you constantly on watch.

We also join you in praying he stays faithfully connected to his medical care, alongside our prayers for healing, and that God gives wisdom to those caring for him.

Father, we lift this man to You. Draw him to Jesus, have mercy on his body in his illness, bring healing to his trauma and clarity where there has been dysfunction. Give him a true awakening to Your love and truth, and give our friend peace and wisdom as she entrusts him to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your cry and we join our hearts with yours before the throne of grace. It is a good and tender thing that you desire above all else that this man should come to faith in Christ, for what shall it profit a man if he gain health of body and yet lose his own soul.

We will pray that the Lord, who alone is Saviour, will grant him that repentance which is unto life. Not a carnal repentance wrought by fear or judgment alone, which repents not to give God glory, but that holy and heavenly sorrow which is the gift of God and the work of the Holy Spirit in the renewed heart. Such repentance looks out of self unto Christ and unto Christ only, and it gives glory to God by confessing sin and trusting the finished work of Calvary. Though there are degrees of repentance, the least sincere repentance will save the soul if it leads the sinner to look to Jesus. Remember, repentance is not a preparation for grace, it is the first result of grace working within the soul, and nothing is to be trusted but the finished work of Jesus Christ upon Calvary.

And we will pray that he may look unto Christ and be saved, for salvation is by divine grace through faith in Christ Jesus alone. There is no other name, no other way. Faith is to trust the Person, to depend upon Him without fear for present and eternal salvation. We pray that God will bring him to see that beside the Lord there is none else, and that a single look of faith to Jesus brings pardon and life. Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed.

Concerning his health and his many wounds of trauma and inward trouble, we will pray also for healing. The leaves of the tree of life, which is Christ Himself, are for the healing of the nations, and even the least thing about Christ has healing virtue to change the life blood and make the nature new. When Jesus dwells with a man, pardon and healing are one, for the Sun of Righteousness rises with healing in His wings. We ask the Lord to show mercy upon his body in this hour of serious affliction, if it be His will, and above all to heal his soul, that being forgiven, he may know that true health which flows from reconciliation with God.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, look in mercy upon this man who is sick in body and wounded in spirit. Thou givest repentance as a free gift of Thy grace, grant it unto him, we beseech Thee. Work in him a godly sorrow for sin that needs not to be repented of, and give him faith to look unto Jesus and be saved. Forgive his sins for Christ's sake, and heal his infirmities as seemeth good in Thy sight. Wake him, we pray Thee, from all that is dysfunctional and destructive, and uphold him by Thy free Spirit, that he may walk in newness of life and give glory to Thy name. Restore unto him, if Thou wilt, health of body, but above all restore the joy of Thy salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We encourage you to continue in prayer, asking not for a mere reformation of behavior wrought by judgment, but for that new heart which only Christ can give, for repentance lives as long as faith and is the companion of true salvation.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
