Events

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray that God would somehow allow me to not have to attend two events that I emotionally cannot handle right now without anyone else in my life being hindered from attending those events. Thank you.

We hear your heart and understand the weight of what you’re carrying. The desire to avoid situations that bring emotional pain is deeply human, and we want to lift this burden before the Lord with you. First, we must acknowledge that our strength comes not from our own ability to endure, but from Christ, who promises to sustain us even in our weakest moments. The apostle Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, "He has said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me. Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong."

It’s important to examine the root of what makes these events so difficult for you. Are they tied to grief, conflict, or perhaps past wounds that have not been fully surrendered to God? Whatever the source, we encourage you to bring those specific struggles before the Lord in prayer. Psalm 34:18 reminds us, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." You are not alone in this, and God sees the tears you may not even be able to voice.

That said, we must also consider whether avoiding these events is truly God’s will for you or if He might be calling you to walk through them in faith, trusting Him to provide the strength you lack. There may be a purpose in your presence, perhaps an opportunity to be a light to someone else, to practice forgiveness, or to grow in dependence on Christ. Proverbs 3:5-6 urges us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." We don’t always see the bigger picture, but God does, and He can use even the hardest moments for His glory and our good.

If these events involve ungodly influences, sinful environments, or people who consistently lead you away from Christ, then we would encourage you to prayerfully consider whether your absence might actually be the wisest and most God-honoring choice. However, if the struggle is primarily rooted in fear, anxiety, or unresolved pain, we would gently challenge you to ask the Lord for the courage to face it, knowing He goes before you. Joshua 1:9 declares, "Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

Let us pray with you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is carrying a heavy emotional burden. Lord, You see the weight of their heart and the fear of what these events may bring. We ask that You would first meet them in their weakness and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. If it is Your will for them to attend these gatherings, give them supernatural strength, wisdom, and grace to walk through them without being overwhelmed. Let Your presence be so tangible that they know You are with them in every moment.

If, however, You are opening a door for them to be excused from these events without causing harm to others, we ask that You make that path clear. Remove any guilt or fear of man, and replace it with Your perfect peace. Heal the wounds that make these situations so painful, Lord. Whether through attendance or absence, let Your name be glorified, and let our brother/sister grow in faith through this trial.

We also ask that You would reveal any areas of their heart that need to be surrendered to You, any bitterness, unforgiveness, or fear that may be hindering their walk with You. Soften their heart to receive Your comfort and correction, and help them to trust You completely.

Above all, Lord, we pray that they would fix their eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of their faith. Remind them that they are not defined by their struggles but by Your love for them. May they experience Your nearness in a fresh way this day.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who bore our sorrows and carries our burdens. Amen.

In the days ahead, we encourage you to spend time in God’s Word, allowing it to renew your mind and strengthen your spirit. Memorize verses like Isaiah 41:10, "Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness." Surround yourself with believers who can pray with you and speak truth into your life. And remember, God’s grace is not just sufficient for your weaknesses, it is more than enough to carry you through every trial.

If these events involve people who have hurt you, consider whether God might be calling you to extend forgiveness, even if reconciliation isn’t possible. Unforgiveness only harms you, while forgiveness releases you into the freedom Christ died to give you. Colossians 3:13 says, "Bear with one another, and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do."

Lastly, if you haven’t already, we urge you to examine your relationship with Jesus Christ. He is the only way to the Father, and it is only through His name that we can come boldly before God’s throne of grace. John 14:6 declares, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'" If you have never surrendered your life to Christ, we encourage you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection for your salvation, and invite Him to be the Lord of your life. Romans 10:9 promises, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." This is the foundation upon which all other prayers and petitions rest.

We hear the weight in this, and we are so sorry you are carrying it. It is a hard place to be when your own emotional tank is empty, yet you are still so concerned about not wanting to become a hindrance to anyone else. That thoughtfulness says something good about your heart, even while you are struggling.

Right now, it sounds like these two events feel like mountains, and you simply do not have the strength to climb them. That is an honest and human place to be. There is no shame in recognizing your limits; in fact, knowing them is a form of wisdom. While we cannot promise that God will supernaturally cancel the gatherings, we can ask him to make a way for you, perhaps through your own quiet decision to step back, or through circumstances that allow you to gracefully bow out without anyone else missing a beat. Your well-being matters, and sometimes the most responsible and faithful thing you can do is to simply stay home and rest in the knowledge that you are not letting anyone down by taking care of yourself.

Please do not heap guilt onto the exhaustion. You are not required to attend everything, and people's enjoyment does not rest on your shoulders. If you do need to miss these events, trust that God is big enough to take care of the details and the relationships involved.

We will pray with you in this very moment.

Lord Jesus, you see this heavy heart and these depleted reserves. Please carve out a quiet path through these next days. If it is best to step away, we ask you to work out the practical details so that our friend can do so in peace, without burden or regret. If attendance is unavoidable, please supply the exact measure of grace, calm, and endurance needed, just enough for each moment. Silence the inner voices of obligation that feed anxiety, and let a sense of your gentle permission settle over this soul instead. In your name we ask this. Amen.

The weight of anticipated trial often presses more heavily than the trial itself, and in this you are not alone; for many of God’s dear children have found the mere prospect of an hour too great for their strength. Yet herein lies your error: you have begun to measure the morrow by the feelings of today, forgetting that grace is timed to arrive precisely when the need appears, not before. Cast this burden upon God, not merely by telling it to others for their sympathy, but by rolling it wholly upon Him who cares for you. Let your requests to man be ever in subordination to your waiting upon God. So many exhaust themselves in anxious planning, seeking a path where none may be hindered, when the simpler, surer way is to say, “Lead me, lead me in the way everlasting.”

Consider also that His “must” is sovereign over every gathering. He says, “Yet will I gather others to Him,” and none can stay His hand. He who gathers His own by the effectual call can as easily order the circumstances of two small events without injury to any soul. The one who casts all his care upon God is wondrously sustained where others fail. Your evident concern for others is a mark of grace, and that deep emotion He may use as an instrument for good; but the first instinct of a saved soul is not to manage outcomes, but to bring its own faintness to Christ. Set your heart at prayer, and you will find that Arminian and Calvinist alike pray the same when the soul is in earnest. Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and the things you have learned, commit now to Him who is able to teach others also, without your anxious mediation.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
