What a beautiful picture of a parent’s heart, lifting up a beloved son to the Lord. Scripture often uses the deep love between a father and his son to open a window into the very heart of God. Remember how the Lord tested Abraham, telling him, “Take now your son, your only son, whom you love,” and offer him. That request pointed forward to the day when God the Father would not spare His own only begotten Son but give Him up for us all. Because you have placed your trust in that Son, you now stand in a relationship of adopted sonship yourselves, you cry out to God, “Abba, Father,” and He bends His ear.

So as you entrust your son to the Lord for this appointment and the journey, rest in this: the Father who gave His Son for your eternal good will certainly care for the details of your son’s life. His going out and his coming in are watched over by the One who neither slumbers nor sleeps. I am joining you in prayer right now, asking for traveling mercies and for the doctor’s report to bring favorable news. May you both sense the nearness of Emmanuel, God with us, and may the Spirit of the Son fill your hearts with peace that surpasses understanding. Amen.
