Your honest sharing about what you and your children are carrying is heard, and your desire for prayer is a beautiful strength. Living without a home of your own, without a car, and feeling dependent on someone who is demanding and uses that dependence to control you would leave anyone feeling trapped and worn down. It makes sense that anxiety and depression are pressing in, especially as you try to protect your children and keep going each day.
Scripture shows us that depression often grows out of hopelessness, that feeling that there is no way out and nothing you can do. When pressures come from every side, financial strain, difficult relationships, spiritual heaviness, we can feel cast down and disquieted inside, as if God has forgotten us. One of the prophets described reaching the very bottom, and the psalmist asked his own soul, why are you so downcast, why so disturbed within me.
The turning point in both of those passages came not from circumstances changing, but from a deliberate choice to speak truth to the soul. Instead of listening to despair or to lies that say you are forgotten or that things will never change, you can talk to yourself about God. The answer given is, hope in God. That means bringing Him back into the equation of your situation. When He is left out, everything feels impossible. When you remember Him, hope returns and even depression can begin to turn toward praise.
Part of that remembering is calling to mind His mercies. Even when things are very hard, His compassion has kept you from being consumed. His mercies are new every morning and His faithfulness is great. Getting your mind and heart off of yourself and onto the Lord is not denying how hard things are, it is choosing to anchor your thoughts in who He is and what He has promised.
For you right now that might look like quietly preaching to your own heart throughout the day, when anxiety rises, saying, my soul, why are you so troubled, put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, He is the health of my countenance and my God. Refusing to wallow in self pity and instead recalling His care can keep the enemy's discouraging whispers from taking deeper root.
I am praying for you and your children in the name of Jesus, the only one through whom we have access to the Father and true hope.
I pray that God will open the doors that He alone wants for you, for stable housing, for reliable transportation, and for provision that allows you to live with peace and dignity. I pray He will guard your minds and your children's minds, replacing tension and fear with His peace, and that He will be the health of your faces, lifting you up day by day. I pray for wisdom and grace as you continue to care for the man who houses you, that God would give you clear boundaries, protection from being controlled, and kindness in how you respond, while also protecting your ability to gather with other believers for encouragement. If possible, share your practical needs with trusted believers near you so they can help bear the burden with you, as the family of God is meant to do.
May the Lord show you in tangible ways that you are not forgotten, that He sees every meal you cook, every chore you do, every prayer you whisper, and that He is working even when you cannot see it. Keep hoping in Him.
