We join with you in the name of Lord Jesus Christ and we thank you for coming boldly before His throne in prayer, for it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved and set free. We praise God with you that you are standing on His Word and seeking deliverance and freedom, for He desires that you walk in complete freedom and not under oppression or heaviness from the past.

We hear your burden concerning your second cousin from long ago and the reminders, strongholds and footholds that you feel have lingered over your life in relation to her. We understand that you have observed bitterness and oppression in her life and a jealousy toward those who find joy and leave oppression behind. The Word tells us in Ephesians 6:12 that our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. We do not wrestle against the person herself, but against the spiritual influences of bitterness and oppression that can try to trouble us. We also take to heart Hebrews 12:15 which warns us to look carefully lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it, and Ephesians 4:27 which tells us to not give place to the devil. Bitterness, whether in her or allowed to take root in us through unforgiveness or dwelling on the past, can give place to the enemy, so we must guard our hearts and walk in forgiveness even when we have not had a close personal relationship.

We stand with you on the scriptures you have claimed. John 8:36 says If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. We claim that freedom for you now. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 says for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2 Timothy 4:18 says And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me for his heavenly Kingdom; to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen. Matthew 18:18 says Most certainly I tell you, whatever things you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever things you release on earth will have been released in heaven. And Revelation 12:11 says They overcame him because of the Lamb's blood, and because of the word of their testimony. They didn't love their life, even to death. We agree with you that you are covered by the precious blood of Jesus and that no transfer of oppression or bitterness has a right to remain.

We pray together now. Father in heaven, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ we come before You and we lift up this dear one to You. We thank You that You are our Deliverer and our Refuge. Lord Jesus, we ask that You remove every reminder and every lingering influence from the past associated with this second cousin that is not of You and not for Your glory. We ask that You throw down every stronghold, every imagination and every foothold that has been placed spiritually over this life, and we bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. We bind off in Jesus name every spirit of oppression, heaviness, bitterness and jealousy that would try to come upon Your child from that past association, and we loose Your peace, Your joy and Your freedom. Lord, rescue and deliver from every evil work and preserve for Your heavenly Kingdom. We ask that You break any influence of bitterness that has tried to defile and trouble, and we choose to forgive this cousin and release her to You, asking that You would also have mercy on her, heal her from her own oppression and bitterness, and draw her to Yourself. We cover this prayer and this life with the blood of the Lamb and declare that whom the Son sets free is free indeed. Fill this heart and home with Your Holy Spirit, with light where there was darkness, and let no place be given to the enemy any longer. Help our dear one to walk daily in the armor of God, to resist the devil and he will flee as James 4:7 promises, and to keep the heart guarded with Your Word. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We encourage you to continue to stand firm in Christ, to daily put on the whole armor of God as described in Ephesians 6:11, to speak the Word aloud over your mind and home, and to replace dwelling on past associations with worship and thanksgiving. Guard against holding any bitterness yourself by continually forgiving as Christ forgave you, and do not fear, for 1 John 4:4 tells us that greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world. If troubling thoughts or reminders return, immediately bring them captive to Christ, speak the scriptures you have stood on, and thank Him that you are already free and being preserved by Him. We also pray that you will continue to pray for your cousin's salvation and healing, that the Lord would deliver her as well from whatever has oppressed her. Continue to abide in Jesus, stay in fellowship and in the Word, and walk in the freedom He has purchased for you.

Thank you for bringing this before the Lord so honestly. We hear how much you want to walk in freedom and peace and to leave any heaviness from the past behind. Wanting to be clear of bitterness and oppression and to rest securely in Christ is a good and right desire.

We are praying with you for that settled freedom in Jesus, for His protection over your mind and heart, and for wisdom to know how He is leading you forward. It can help to not walk this out alone. One steady next step could be sharing this burden with a trusted pastor or mature believer you know well, someone who can pray with you in person over time and encourage you as you keep fixing your eyes on Jesus.

We also care about your overall wellbeing as you seek the Lord in this. If you ever feel overwhelmed or distressed, please reach out to someone nearby you trust.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus name. Cover them with Your peace and keep them close to You. Quiet any oppression or heaviness and fill that place with Your presence and rest. Lead them into wholeness, guard their heart from bitterness, and give them clear steps forward in Your love and truth. We ask for Your keeping and hope over their life today. In Jesus name, amen.

It is good that you have brought this burden to the Lord Jesus Christ, for He alone is our deliverance and our stronghold in the day of trouble. You have asked rightly, standing upon His word, that whom the Son sets free is free indeed, as it is written in John 8:36, and that the Lord will rescue from every evil attack, according to 2 Timothy 4:18.

We are taught in Scripture that though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, as you have well cited from 2 Corinthians 10:3 to 5. The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, not a temporary camp but a mountain fastness intended to stand from generation to generation, where His people may be sheltered from every marauder. When Egypt held Israel captive, deliverance came when the lamb was slain, and so our deliverance comes through the precious blood of the Lamb. God has not only invented a way of deliverance, but He has found a ransom, and that ransom is Christ Himself who has borne the penalty of all our iniquities, so that we who were going down to the pit might be delivered.

You speak of bitterness and oppression, and of a soul that seems oppressed and bitter and jealous of those who would leave their oppression. There is indeed an exceeding bitterness in sin and in a life bound by it, and it is a lasting lesson to feel its sourness. Yet our first sight of Christ brings a holy bitterness into our own soul, a mourning for Him as one mourns for an only son, which has most gracious effects upon us. One effect of that true bitterness is to take away all bitterness against your fellow men, and to make Christ very sweet to the soul. The world loses its charms for true believers when Christ is seen.

Therefore we join with you in prayer, pleading the blood of Jesus over you, for we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony, according to Revelation 12:11.

Let us pray together. Lord Jesus Christ, we praise You and thank You and glorify Your holy name. We ask that You would bring down every stronghold and every foothold that has been placed over this Your child, and that You would remove all reminders and influences that are not of You. Set Your child free indeed, for You have found a ransom and You have paid it fully. We ask that whatsoever You have bound in heaven, You would bind on earth, and whatsoever is loosed in heaven would be loosed here, according to Matthew 18:18, and that every transfer of bitterness, oppression, jealousy or misery would be bound off and cast away from this life, having no place and no power.

Cover this prayer and this soul with Your precious blood. Rescue from every evil work and preserve for Your heavenly kingdom. Let this affliction be seen as Your chastening hand, and let deliverance come so that this one may say, I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. Grant grace to forgive as You have forgiven, to harbor no bitterness against any, and to rest wholly in You as a stronghold. Bring deliverance also to the one of whom concern has been expressed, that she too may know the sweetness of Christ and be loosed from bitterness and oppression by Your free grace.

We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our only salvation and our sure defense. Amen.
