🙌 Daily Mercy, Faithfulness Lam 3:23 🙇🏻 Continue Prayer for Former Rom 10:1; Yet Focus on Duties, Tit 3:14New Things Isa 42:9, Grace Both Ecc 7:18

The very request you make, to hold fast one thing while not letting go the other, reveals a heart striving after God yet tangled in the cares of this life. The apostle speaks plainly: "No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life" (2 Tim. 2:4). You pray earnestly for the salvation of a former spouse and a child, and that is itself a noble act of love. Yet hear the warning of the Spirit: an impure life, or even the choking dust of worldly anxieties, extinguishes the gift of grace like a lamp smothered with water and earth. If you fix your eye continually upon that past union and the outcome of another’s repentance, you open a door to a wind that can quench the flame within you. Close the door. Shut your mouth to complaints and your ear to whisperings of despair. Do not let the past drain the oil that fuels your present light.

Consider the power of the Cross. It has crucified the world to you, and you to the world. All things have become new: a new creation, a new rule of life, new things God even now declares and performs. To this newness you are called; let not the old dispensation of your former life hold you back. It is right to intercede, but know this: Christ, our High Priest, ever lives to make intercession. He is able to save to the uttermost, He has no successor and no weakness. Entrust that prodigal and that distant one to Him, and then forget what lies behind, as the runner strains toward the prize. To keep turning back to gazes upon their unregenerate state is to look where you have been ordered not to look, and to run with sandals full of lead.

Be thankful, unceasingly thankful, for the grace already given to you. For nothing is so acceptable to God as a heart that offers praise for both its own mercies and those bestowed on others. And let that thanksgiving govern your prayer: not as one bargaining with God for outcomes, but as one standing in the light of a grace that is sufficient. All trials, this very tension you feel, are permitted not to destroy you but to teach you lowliness and to prepare you for hardiness. The struggle to keep one hand on the new while the other stretches backward is itself the trial. Its proper fruit is not a divided life but a decisive one. You cannot be a soldier carrying two shields. Cast off the weight, for the night is far spent and the day is at hand. Judgment stands at the doors; we know not the hour, but we know the season calls for vigilance, not entanglement.

Desire open doors for the Gospel? Then see that your own life is the first door set open to the world. A clean conscience, an unquenched Spirit, a lamp burning bright, these are the credentials that herald the message. Better is one who does the will of the Lord than ten thousand transgressors, and better is one soul wholly given to present duty than a heart divided between ten thousand cares. The world itself, with all its claims, would not counterbalance the pearl of this present season where God is doing a new thing. Therefore, set in order the things that remain; meet each pressing need with diligence; and run your race in such a way that you may win. But you cannot win if you run with your eyes fixed behind you.

Finally, do not think you must ask for protection as if you fight alone. The cross has opened doors that were shut, has quenched the venom of the evil one, and has made an entrance into Paradise for all who abide in Christ. He who sends angels to cast the wicked into the furnace is the same who keeps the feet of His saints. Ask, then, for grace, but also take hold of the grace already given. Shut the door to temptation by the fear of God; guard the eye and the ear; let not a blast of wickedness come in from outside. And walk forward, not looking back. The new things are before you; enter into them with thanksgiving, and the God of peace will be with you.

You are holding together two real things and there is wisdom in that. The desire to see those you once held close come to genuine repentance and living faith is not wrong; it is love reaching toward eternity. Yet you have also recognized that you cannot let that intercession become the single note of your life, crowding out the new works God is setting before you. Ecclesiastes speaks of grasping one thing without letting go of the other, and that is the balance of a heart that has learned to commit people and pasts into the hands of the One who alone knows the reasons and the times.

It is easy to miss how much energy can pour into what is behind, into questions no man can fully answer. We search out reasons, we relive sorrows, we make promises to God about how we will do better if He will move in a certain way. But the life lived merely on the human plane, trying to fix what we cannot control, becomes empty and frustrating. Your times, like every season, are appointed by God. The former things have passed through His fingers, and the new things He declares before they spring forth are also His doing. Do not contend with Him over what He has permitted or what He withholds. Submit to His wisdom, because He knows what is best for you and for them, and your part now is not to argue but to trust and obey.

Make sure that your heart does not become so consumed with one great sorrow or one unanswered longing that you are worn out on piddling distractions while the major tasks go neglected. There are duties right in front of you: the flock among you, the open doors for the gospel, the teaching, the setting of things in order. These are the works that carry eternal fruit. Labor done for the Lord is never in vain, never empty. When you pour yourself into what God has called you to today, you are not abandoning prayer for the lost; you are placing it where it belongs, as incense rising even while your hands are busy with the kingdom.

Guard against the temptation to read God’s delay as indifference or to mistake His silence for His absence. No man knows love or hatred by what he sees before him, for rain falls on the just and the unjust. All things come alike to all, and all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose. That purpose is bigger than one relationship, one prodigal, one former bond. It wraps around the whole of your life and the whole of your witness. So remember your Creator now. Press forward to what is ahead, laying aside the weight of what you cannot untangle, and run in such a way that you may win. The race marked out for you today is filled with new mercies, fresh opportunities for the gospel, and the quiet, strengthening fellowship of abiding in Christ. Let that be your primary focus, trusting that He who opens doors no man can shut will also do what is right in His time for every soul you lift before Him.

We are deeply grateful that you entrusted us with the privilege of standing alongside you in prayer, lifting up your heartfelt petitions before our Heavenly Father. It has been our joy to intercede for the salvation of your loved ones, for grace to balance the old and the new, and for open doors of ministry and evangelism to unfold before you. We have prayed earnestly that the Lord would grant you the strength to press forward in His calling while holding fast to the hope of redemption for those still lost in darkness.

If the Lord has already moved in answer to these prayers—if hearts have turned toward repentance, if new opportunities have arisen, or if His grace has sustained you in ways you could not have imagined—we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report. Your testimony of God’s faithfulness would encourage us all and bring glory to His name.

If, however, the answers have not yet come, or if the burden still feels heavy, we invite you to post this request again. Let us continue to stand with you in prayer, lifting these needs before the throne of grace with even greater fervency. We believe that our God hears, He cares, and He is working even when we cannot see it.

May the Lord bless you abundantly as you seek Him with all your heart. May He grant you wisdom to navigate the path ahead, strength to fulfill the duties before you, and peace that surpasses all understanding as you trust in His perfect timing. We pray that His grace would overflow in your life, enabling you to run the race set before you with endurance, keeping your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

We continue to pray for you in Jesus’ name. Amen.
